First, I believe the ratings are a bit inflated. Let's start with the cons first. While this park is in as beautiful a setting as you could ever ask for...it is an old park. The roads to the park is old asphalt with potholes, some quite large as well as deep. The roads thru the park are narrow and very windy through the beautiful tall pines. The pull thru sites are tight on account of the trees and to say that half are far out if level would not be an exaggeration. We drive a 37' motorhome into the park...
carefully!!! While the park was close to being full there was but one other Class A in the entire park. The bathrooms are old and yes, clean for their age, cold wtr. and no towels. The pros are strictly related to the beauty of the park. I would say nothing longer than 24' and even that can cause problems IF you don't already know the park. I rate this park a 7.5 max if you have a smaller Class C or less than 24' pull unit. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Were assigned #27...couldn't get into (pull thru). With much complaining was able to secure #17 instead (pull thru). Couldn't get thru but disconnected and backed in. Heavily sloped. Front wheels more than 6" off ground still not enough!

We are full-timers who have stayed at literally dozens of national forest, national park, and state park campgrounds, and Fallen Leaf Lake is by far one of the very best. In a nice change of pace, the builders of this campground didn't crowd the sites on top of each other, but left plenty of space between sites, especially around the perimeter of the campground. The setting is mostly ponderosa pine forest sprinkled with open meadows and many sites look out upon the meadows and forest with barely any sign of other campers. Yes, the roads and many of the sites pads are uneven and broken, but I wouldn't say they are much worse than average for this type of campground. Fallen Leaf Lake is just a short walk from the south side of the campground, and the sites at this end are the most popular. We had a 100-foot pull through which had some broken pavement, but once we got settled it was spectacularly beautiful, private, and five minutes' walk to the crystal clear lake where our dog could swim and we could sit and gaze at the snow-covered mountains surrounding it. Tremendously convenient, the campground was 15 minutes to shopping, restaurants and every service you could want; and for those inclined, about 25 minutes to the Nevada casinos.

I don't give many "10" ratings on this site, but Fallen Leaf Lake deserves it! We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed our stay and had a lovely campsite. The cg was nearly empty as we were there for the first week days after opening for the season. There are 206 sites so probably a bit noisier when full. Because we are a big rig we had limited options in site selection so we were in site 4 which has the entrance road behind and the main cg road in front but still enjoyed nice peace and quiet. The sites vary in size and degree of level and spacing. The campground environment is beautiful with lots of really large trees. There are flush toilets and pay showers. There is an rv water fill but for some reason it is located at the exit to the cg. You need to check in and drive all the way around to reach it. We did not fill our tank so I cannot comment on how well it worked.
South Lake Tahoe is only a few miles away so if in need of civilization or supplies, it is a quick trip. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Use the bear box located at each site! The campers who had spent the previous days in our site did not and a bear ate the contents of their cooler which had been left outside. He returned to see us a few times before giving up.

This is a National Forest Service campground. Beautiful setting in a perfect location. The roads and site paving are a little rough and restrooms are what you would expect in a NFS campground. We loved being tucked in the trees and the sites were well spaced so that there was a lot of privacy. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Motorhome.

We have been camping here for 35 years. Now you must make reservation or you will not get in in the summer. Nice big pull thru sites as you select your sites online. NO HOOKUPS is a challenge if staying more than a couple days. The campground is run by a private untidy and not very helpful when a problem arises. This last year they tore up our site we had reserved for 6 months and made it half the length which was a real problem as no others were available to switch. We made it work but they ruined the site for us and no warning. The day after we checked in we got an automated call telling us of the change. Government run operations can be difficult to work with. It is a very nice park however. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Motorhome.

We planned to stay here for one night only but within a couple of hours we decided to extent our stay with two more night. It is the place to be if you want to escape from the craziness of the south part of lake Tahoe. The campground ends at the beautiful lake of fallen leaf. Stay there a few days and you will fall in love in with this camp site. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Certainly a recommendation and worth a visit. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Motorhome.

It was all I could do to get our 37' travel trailer into a spot advertised as a pull through. In retrospect it would have been better to have backed the trailer in to the spot, but I was just learning. Many of the pull through sites include a sharp turn around one or more trees. The park is beautiful, but has no hookups. There is a series of hiking and biking trails behind the campground, which are adjacent to Fallen Leaf Lake. Sites are asphalt, but not level due to potholes and lack of general maintenance. Our site was labeled ADA, and was negotiable by a power wheelchair. Manual wheelchair users might be challenged by the rough terrain. BYOG (Bring you own generator) We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful campground. No hook ups. Nicely spaced sites and open meadows. Attentive staff. Site 78 and others like that are pull through, so great if you can book. Best sites are those closest to lake. Lake is not visible, but a short walk. Camp Richardson and Pope Beach are 2 miles away. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Camp hosts are very nice and helpful. Site was difficult to back into, and with their patience and assistance, we navigated it just fine. Although occupancy rate was high, we never felt crowded, due to the large and spacious campsites. Caution - no dump facility on site. No bear sightings either. Parking near lake can be tight, however folks are coming and going all the time. The lake scenery is spectacular. Nice beachfront with benches. Will return here again. We camped at Fallen Leaf Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is a gem. It is conveniently located to the city and has it's own beach at the Fallen Leaf Lake, a crystal clear, picturesque lake, a little above Lake Tahoe. The sites have a grill and a fireplace. All sites are very spacious. The facilities are very clean and the staff is very friendly. I would come back in a heartbeat.
