This is the worst place we have ever stayed in 5 years of camping. Place was dirty, tight and no regard for their own rules. We had a large group of campers directly behind our coach (2 ft). They moved their fire ring close to coach and partied to after midnight every night we were there. Quite hours supposedly started at 10pm but were not enforced even after we complained. Had nothing but young people working who were not interested in getting out to see what was really going on. No management present was noticed. Place was packed for Labor Day weekend and tenters were intermingled with campers, fifth wheels & motorhomes. Thousand Trails should be ashamed of this place. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this park 4 times this year and years previously. This the price went from $64 per night to $88 with no additional amenities. Sites that we're standard are now premium. The staff are not helpful at all. We were blocked in by a motor home that was too large for the site next to ours. We had to wait for them to leave before we could. I brought this to the managers attention and he said he couldn't make them move. After questioning the manager about the placement of RVs in sites he admitted he had never owned an RV. The changes happened when encore/Thousand Trails took over the RV park. I will not return to this park again. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

$54/nite reflects their weekly rate. We stayed 10 nights starting late April. On arrival, staff were very nice and helpful. Our site had panoramic views of the pine trees from our rear bedroom. Several loops were still closed and only a small number of RVs were here at this time of year. Although there are no privacy shrubs, etc., we still felt the separation from our neighbors was good. The asphalt cg roads had a few potholes but we had no problem maneuvering our 32ft travel trailer. There were plenty of staff raking and leveling sites throughout our stay. Snow was still on the ground in places, and we experienced a wonderful snowfall one afternoon and evening. Our site was still a bit muddy at one end from but dried out in a few days. I had no problem leveling our trailer with a few leveling blocks. This early in the season, the cg only had 30amp sites available - 50amp loops were still closed. Verizon signal was weak/slow but usable. The cg is a short drive to Lake Tahoe, stores, restaurants and etc. We will definitely camp here again in the future, and probably during this same season. We liked the emptiness, quiet and cool weather this time of year. If you want to use the pool, tennis court, volleyball court, etc. or need 50A service, you'll want to come later in the year. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The beachfront Beacon Bar and Grill has good food and a sports bar. The upscale Riva Grill on the Lake has excellent food and good lake views. Drive 20 minutes Inspiration Point for a beautiful overlook of Emerald Bay. Glen Alpine Falls is nearby - a wonderful sight late winter through May, and a short walk from the road. Raleys Market and CVS drugstore are 2 minutes away by car, and Raleys has inexpensive diesel fuel to boot.

Tried to get into another park and just couldn't.... for months, so had to stay here.

This park is huge: lots of sites. The loop we were in was loud at night. People playing music in one site and people up late drinking right next to us (loud). We called in at night after hours, but nothing happened. We found out later the people staying next to us in a van and two tents, were employees. They have a 10pm quiet time listed in their literature, but their employees didn't follow it.

This is an older park and we noticed the big rigs having issues. They eventually got in, but it was not easy.

The did have a nice pool. Sites are dirt, roads are paved. The laundry was very big and worked well for us. There are no fire rings and no ground fires. The front office said we could rent a ring for 8.00 / night. We didn't do that.

For what you get it is over priced, but there are not many other options. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a premium site that was level and long enough for or rig. Paved interior roads but dirt sites. Only had 30 amp service and it was hot but only able to run 1 AC. Pool was clean a b d temp was good. Super friendly staff and very accommodating. Was nice but 50 amp and paved sites would earn it a 10. Caught the restrooms just before cleaning. We made our reservation via their website, selecting a 50 amp FHU "prime" spot. Upon arrival, we were assigned a non-"prime" 30 amp site. After several minutes of near argument with the check-in staff person about "not needing a 50 amp site" he reluctantly changed our site to what we needed and had already paid for. Even though this part of the facility is open year around the water to our site was turned off and it took some effort to get staff to come turn it on. The sites in this section are close together and all dirt.

This facility is showing it's age. There are large potholes in the access roads and a number of bumps caused by frost-heaves and tree roots. The roadways wind through the trees but if you take it slow and are cautious most rigs can probably navigate them. The non-prime sites in the area we camped are generally 40' long and back up to another 40' site. They will be cramped if there are two long rigs back to back. The "prime" sites are back-in sites generally on the outside perimeter.

We have stayed here before but this will be the last time for us. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Access from US50 via "C" Street takes you directly to the CG entrance. Roads are asphalt, sites are hard sand and mostly level. Utilities are well placed, there are pedestal BBQ grill stands and some sites have fire bowls. There are pine trees, some satellite access, HDTV good signal. Part of the CG closes for the winter. There are a few long term residents here but their sites are tidy. Restrooms were okay, certainly not sparkling clean, didn't use the showers. "The Pit" is a group BBQ area used by the staff while we were there for a Chamber of Commerce function and campers were invited to attend, free of charge. South Lake Tahoe is gearing up for the winter ski season. There are stores, shops and restaurants to chose from, some in California, some in Nevada. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Von's Supermarket is a half mile from the CG, offers a huge store with a massive deli section and enormous liquor section. There are many good places to eat within 5 or 10 minutes of the CG. Over the pass to Carson City, NV for big lot stores and some historic sites, especially the Virginia-Truckee Railroad museum.

Asphalt roads, dirt sites. Lots of trees so we were in the shade, site was level, back-in. Picnic table and raised BBQ. Campfires not permitted. This campground is a Thousand Trails membership park; however they do let non-members stay. It would have cost us $72 a night, but they had a special of "pay for 2-nights and get the 3rd-night fee" which worked out to $48 per night. WiFi was weak and intermittent, get Code when you check-in. We were in Section "A", which does not have cable TV, but we were able to get antenna TV with 7-channels. Swimming pool and playground. Pets are OK, but must be on a leash at all times. Bathrooms and showers were old, but clean. Quiet at night. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

As a Thousand Trails Elite member we used the Encore Ready Camp Go to get the low rate. We had site 306 and during night 2 we lost power due to low voltage. This reported to mgmt but no repairs during our 5 day stay. Fortunately the site behind was unoccupied so we used that power box. All sites are dirt. Mostly fairly level. Premium sites have 50 amp. Only a handful of sites are satellite friendly and those appeared to be occupied by work campers. Over the TV reception was ok. Park cable was basic plus ESPN and CNN. Family friendly park and packed on weekend. Quiet during mid week. Shopping close by and paved bike paths to a lot of attractions. Staff excellent. Well stocked store and plenty of planned activities. Nice pool but not warm enough for me. Major issue was nuicance bears(s) who raid dumpsters daily. They will come right through your campsite while people are around. Disposal company does not provided bear proof dumpsters. Bears roam around town and popular bike paths. Error on the side of caution and carry bear spray. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Very expensive park for what you get. Premium sites are required for larger rigs, and many of those don't have 50 amp service. Also, for big rigs road access is tight, we had to exit the wrong way because of cars parked too close to the road. Satellite is tough due to trees, and cable system is old with limited channels and fuzzy reception. They have a pool, basketball courts, and a playground. During summer they have several events during the week. This means lots of families, some without any parental supervision (basketball games during quiet hours). We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The park is a bit of a mish mash of sites, some with 50 amp, some only 30 amp, some have sewer and some don't. You can find the hookups you want, you just need to be clear what you want. Some of the sites are wide with sun exposure and fairly good satellite reception, others not so much.

The check-in process was easy and we proceeded to our spot. Many of the sites, including ours, have large trees that can make it difficult for larger rigs to get into. The trees define the sites, so they aren't just side by side, perfectly straight. This adds some character to the park, but also means you might be looking at someone else's sitting area, although that extreme is rare.

There was a group next to us that had several RV's and tents, which was really nice for them. But, because the sites aren't clearly defined, one of their tents encroached on part of what we thought was our area. We had a lot of room, so it wasn't an issue, but others might not feel that way.

We decided to extend our stay an extra two weeks, and part way through moved to a premium site. Our site was still 30 amp, but we had woods behind us and our site had much more open space to set up our canopy.

The bathrooms in our loop were older, but clean. I used the laundry twice, the first time went well. The second time neither of the two driers I used dried my clothes. When we complained, the kid working said that they don't always work and refunded the cost of one dryer. They didn't even ask which machines we had problems with, that was disappointing.

The wifi was unusable and AT&T reception was spotty, but we had a strong Verizon signal.

The location is great and road noise is low, but there is a hospital very close and they seem to use their helicopter a lot! That was a little annoying, but it usually doesn't run late into the night.

We enjoyed our stay here and hope to return. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a Thousand Trails/Encore resort, spaces and roads are tight! The 1st night they put us in #247 F loop. I was amazed we were able to get in. So tight and only 30 amp. It was hot and power kept going off that night. We noted a few neighbors had vacated the next day and thought this was our only chance of getting out of the tight fit. We went to office and explained our concerns. They were great and really helped us find a larger site with the 50 amp we had reserved. It was a dicey exit not only from that 1st site but from the F loop! A lot of campers helped spot us. We do not recommend going into those loops with anything over 40'. They found us site 487 on Loop A. This was great for us. We had to pull in from the back of the site and were not able to line up as indicated, but all hookups reached. Our stay was very pleasant after that. We were able to back straight out and exit without any problems at the end of our stay. We were there for 4 nights. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Only loops A & C have 50 amp.

If you are a large motorhome, unhook and preview the site and loops before you drive your rig in. The trees are growing bigger and the motorhomes are getting larger.
We also noted bear activity in the area. Locals advised not to leave food in your cars.
Very popular in the summer. Make reservations early.

Wonderful stay at this Encore park "added on" to our Thousand Trails Zone Pass membership as a bonus option. It was our first long stay (more than a few nights) at a campground since we bought our RV. Although they were busy in the lead up to 4th July, we were allocated a nice, spacious site. Staff very friendly and helpful. Because it was peak time and sites were limited, we ended up in the area where they don't offer cable but as we don't watch TV anyway this didn't matter. Walking the campground was lovely, only concern was internet/cellular coverage. We use our own WIFI (rarely CGs) as we work fulltime and need reliability/bandwith. AT&T phone coverage was average at best. My AT&T phone was pretty much inoperable over the holiday weekend as the population of Tahoe swelled considerably. I could not even send a text or post from my phone, but this was throughout Tahoe, not just the campground. We have a Verizon MIFI hotspot 4G LTE and Wilson Sleek 4G booster and still internet was frustratingly slow... better in the mornings, but virtually non-existent after lunch, presumably as more people get online/use towers. Fire rings not at site - you have to rent them from the office for $5 per night to rent - they are very popular so if you must have one, get in early to avoid disappointment!

All that said, Tahoe Valley RV Resort is a wonderful campground, nice facilities and recommend. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Showed up without a reservation and was told since we wanted to use Passport America that we'd have to call to make our reservation. Unfortunately it was a weekend and no one answered so the campground made the reservation for me. Roads are paved but sites are dirt covered with pine needles (which they were clearing off). We had a full hookup back-in with a BBQ grill (some sites had grills, some fire rings and other fire boxes). Park felt spacious as no one was there, but we could tell it's very crowded when full. Pool wasn't open for use, activity tent was being raised, nothing going on yet, but we were still charged the $4 daily "resort fee". Price reflects Passport rate plus the resort fee. We camped at Tahoe Valley RV Resort in a Truck Camper.
