We've been here for a month (November) and have had relatively no complaints about the park. It is neat and clean and the sites are spaced well so you have plenty of room. All sites are back in and deep enough for any size RV and park your truck or car in front of the rig. The initial visual of the park is very nice with a section of the park that is landscaped and has some shade trees. This is the 'no pet' zone. As you come further back in to the 'pets allowed' area there is no landscaping or shade trees. The grass in the pet area, although watered regularly and maintained, looks dried up. There are some RV's in the pet section that are, well.....not the latest models and one even has a tarp over the top. But, that's okay. Not all people can have brand new Tiffins (we certainly don't). There is no wifi and, in this day and age, that is almost unacceptable. The park hosts are great people! Very helpful, very friendly and generally good folks. It's a small world in that we knew that we knew each other but couldn't place each other. We finally realized we had parked next to each other the previous summer in Rhode Island. Now we're all the way on the other side of the country and run in to them. The BX and commissary are very close by as is San Francisco, Sacramento and even Lake Tahoe is a nice day trip. We would come back. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

As noted by others, there's a difference between the sites available for pet owners & non-pet owners. There's also a different level of pet sites. The lesser is limited to 30 amp sites that sit at right angles to the road. That's where we stayed & it was just fine. This is a nice facility. My wife & I, civilians ourselves, strive to only stay in the very best RV resorts. This isn't that, but it it isn't meant to be. It was a great place to stay during a Thanksgiving week visit to our military family son. There was always a site or 2 vacant. Most have satellite TV clearance. Especially in the "nicer", where trees abound, this could be a problem, as could trees coming in contact with larger rigs. A very spacious fuel station is located nearby. The commissary & BX, along with good size food court are even closer. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Though we never got to it this trip, the nearby plane museum is awesome. Or it least it was a decade ago when it was much easier for us civilian types to get an on base pass to visit it.

We stayed for a week. The famcamp is mixed. Some sites, mainly in the no pets section are very nice, others (where we were) are pretty barren- no shade. The site maintenance is mixed, at least two sites have faulty circuit breakers, they trip at least once a minute (we learned our site (46) was one of the two). On the plus side the price is right, exchange and commissary are just blocks away diesel is available, laundry and bathrooms are clean and functional. We'd stay there again but would certainly try for the better sites behind the office. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

A major plus is the rv wash facility at the car wash just a block away. Tall walkways on both sides, $10 will do the whole rv. See the jelly belly factory, take the tour. Travis is a good space-a base

The site is gravel and level. I did not have reservations as they do not make reservations if you are going to arrive within 30 days; however, they do have several sites that are first come first serve. When I arrived the office was closed but there were clear instructions on which sites were available for my size rig, length of stay, and with or without pets. I don't think it could be any more clear. After I got settled in my site, the office opened and I finished the registration process. The gentlemen in the office was friendly and squared me away quickly even though he continued to receive a million other calls. Kudos to him for his multitasking abilities. The BX and Commissary are within walking distance and there is a big field in the back to walk your dog. Overall, I have no complaints especially for the price. Thank you Travis AFB Command and MWR for taking care of us. Now... if we can only get everyone (mostly a small percentage) to recognize theses awesome benefits and not take advantage and ensure we clean up after ourselves and our pets. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Had no trouble finding an overflow space where we camped for two nights.

Park was almost full. Adequately maintained. Dump station and gravel site in overflow was fine. Parking tow was not a problem. There were shade trees, but I was still able to use my Winegard Trv'ler DirecTV satellite. Great location and will stay there again. 1st stay: Brochure, phone message and sign on the door all say the office is open from 0830-1200 then from 1300-1530. My wife went to the office where an Open sign displayed in the window, knocked on the door but the guy in the office would not answer. She then called the office number and he finally acknowledged her. When we made reservations a few months back I asked for a parking site where we could get satellite reception. Amy assigned us to site #3 for that purpose. During check-in we were told we had been moved to site #61 which we knew has a tree blocking to view to the south. At that time we were told there was no other sites available so we proceeded to our site, backed in and with some maneuvering, got the TV working. When my wife walked back over to the office she was told we could move to another site if we wanted. What? So, if you are assigned to a site or make a request for a specific site when you make a reservation, you may or may not get that one when you arrive. My recommendation would not even assign a site when you make a reservation, just wait until your arrival. During check-in you are required to not only sign the "rules" sheet but you must now initial all 21 rules individually and then sign. I don't think we got the memo that the old manager had returned to Travis. There is no longer any internet available in the park and if you want cable TV you are required to go into Fairfield to get a cable box. They are no longer watering most of the "dogs" parking sites and it looks terrible in that area.

2nd Stay: Same problem with being moved to another site. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind being moved but at least take my preferences into account. The Verizon cell signal is weak at Travis, but with a booster we are able to get 2 bars of 4g service. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

I agree with other comments about the two sections with the pet section being inferior. However, the site was spacious and very quiet, considering it is on an air base. A great bargain for the area. We would definitely stay there again. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground, ideally located for us to visit the Lake Tahoe and Napa area by car during our six-night visit. We were in the "no animals" part of the park, arguably the nicer part. The back-in gravel pads (no pull-throughs) are narrow, and the hedges that separate each site make the sites even narrower. We had full hook-ups with 50 amp service. The campground is just inside the main gate, easily accessed by making the first right turn followed by another immediate right turn.

We arrived on Saturday to find the office closed on weekends. However, the manager happened to be driving past the campground and saw us arrive. He stopped by to welcome us and give us a lay of the land. Our name and site assignment were prominently displayed on a list in the office window. The office is only open for limited hours on weekday mornings and afternoons.

The campground claims to have basic cable TV available for free; however, we could not get any stations. We were told that long-term visitors can pay for a cable box through the local cable provider. We were able to get excellent digital TV coverage over the air for free.

One must pay for Wi-Fi. We did, and it was a waste of money. We could access the Internet less than half the time, and would often lose the signal and have to attempt to login over and over. Definitely not worth the cost.

All in all, the location and reasonable nightly cost make this a worthwhile stop. Strongly suggest having reservations. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Very nice FamCamp with a nice laundry room, clean restrooms and showers, and thoughtful layout. There is a pet area and a non-pet area, so if you don't want to camp near anyone with a pet, you have that option as pets are not allowed in part of the FamCamp. We never saw anyone in the camp office. They are only open for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon. They close for lunch in the middle of the day, which is when we arrived, so we self-registered, which was an easy process. No WiFi, no cable. Our AT&T hotspot worked fine and antenna picked up all major networks. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is like 2 different parks in one. One area, which is really nice, is for campers without pets. The 2nd area, for campers with pets, is not so nice. WiFi was so weak we couldn't connect. Very close to BX complex and commissary and the Base hospital. We would stay again but now know which spaces to ask for since we have a small dog. We enjoyed our stay here (site #72). Sites are adequate in size, mostly level (I used a few leveling blocks), gravel back-ins, with concrete patios and picnic tables. Our site, and many others, enjoyed some nice shade trees. Not all sites are as nice as others. Some sites are pet restricted so ask when booking. TV cable system is convoluted as you need to acquire a digital converter box from Comcast somewhere. We didn't bother and reception via antenna was good. Restrooms were OK but could have been maintained in a cleaner state. Other positives: located just inside main gate (some traffic noise); directly across the street from the BX (one of the best I've seen), commissary (also one of the best I've seen), and Starbucks for coffee addicts. If this were a $40/night RV Park I would have been slightly disappointed but as a $20/night FAMCAMP this was more than satisfactory and we would stay here again if passing through the area. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park would be rated much higher but for all the crazy rules. There are "pet sites" and "non-pet sites," and the "pet sites" are fairly limited. Plus, if the "non-pet sites" are full then Rvers without pets may use the "pet sites" but if the "pet sites" are full then RVers with pets are not allowed to check in. Also, the pet areas are extremely limited. I wouldn't call this place very pet friendly at all. The maximum stay is 180 days so there are lots of homesteaders, which gives the park a different feel than a normal RV park. They have dozens of obscure rules and placards with the rules posted everywhere. I felt like if my dog walked on the grass somebody would run up and issue me a ticket or something. Geez. When you sign in, if paying by check they require your full social security number, which is stupid and dangerous. The "free cable TV" requires that you obtain a cable descrambler box from some company, and it is available only on Monday through Friday during business hours, so if you check in after hours or the weekend you don't get cable. Overall, it was a very annoying place that was adequate for our two day stay, but it could and should have been much better. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

The FamCamp is right next to the main gate. The BX & Commissary are close enough for a good walk to. They also have Diesel on base. All the sites are gravel back-ins with grass and well spaced so you're not on top of each other. Plan on the office being closed when you arrive as their open hours are very odd. This is a nice park but does not have much extra, just a place to park your RV while visiting this part of California. You have to pay five dollars/day for wireless internet and cable TV is only 21 channels. I would not use it for a home base due to cost and lack of things to do at campground. This place is for military, retired personnel. We camped at Travis AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.
