As another review stated, an older park that needs help and is big rig friendly with back in and pull thru sites. Sites are mostly level, self registration, good 30amp, bad water that flows rusty and totally plugged our filter. Elk are there and as another review states is the attraction. Sadly, park is not one we will use again. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

An older park with older facilities many in need of simple TLC. Gravel/grass site surprisingly level. Restrooms adequate but outdated. I consider these shortcomings minor and made up for by the 100 plus elk herd that spent most one afternoon and part of another in and around our camp site. There were several bulls with 5-6 point racks (western count) sparing and in a couple of cases in actual combat. No cable but clear to the south for satellite. WiFi was out of service for maintenance. This was our 3rd or 4th time here and we will camp here again. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

A great place for photography and is near to large redwoods. CAUTION: The elk are not tame, We saw one car get to close to a bull. The bull charged and gored the grill area twice.

The only thing going for this park are the elk. It has all the hookups. Its nothing special not a resort by any means. New owner has only had it four years. He's trying but things are slow. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

This park used to be called Redwood Trails until the owner ran it into the ground. Still a very nice place to camp. Great to wake up to Elk in your cam site. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Park is under new ownership last 2 years and they are keeping the place very nice to visit. RV site in meadow was basically level, maybe 1 bubble off level driving in, deep wide slots. Hookups, restrooms and laundry clean with key access. Enjoyed the quiet setting, elk walking by the door about every other day, cool weather. We stay here about 2-4 weeks a year to escape Arizona summer heat and love it each time. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Trinidad at the Eatery for Clamchowder, best on the coast from Ventura to Crescent City. Salmon or deep sea fishing in season. Murphys store has bbq sandwiches, tri-tip, half chicken, hamburgers on Fri,Sat,Sun which are great. Little store has everything you need from a local area size store. If you want more go to McKinnleyville for Rays or Safeway, Roundtable Pizza.

We stayed here for a week. When we first got here the reserved forest was taken by someone that just set up camp. The manager made it right and refunded the first night and offered any other open spot. We chose the meadow and glad we did! Wouldn't trade our experience for anything! Great place. Nice guy operating it. Soooo close to a lot of the best sights and things to do. And the elk! So nice to wake up and see the wildlife at you doorstep. We both just loved it and will return in a minute! Thx for the hospitality. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

If you want privacy, even though wide open, choose the meadow warm in day, cool at night. The forest is nice but crowded with dirt spaces. Cool daytime and very cool at night.

This park is not for those who want level concrete pads, nor for those seeking State Park privacy. But it was a really great stop for a few nights along the coast, near the ocean and with full hookups. We were in the "meadow" area where any larger RVs need to go, with full hookups. There's also sites for smaller RVs and tents around a lake and in the woods. Sites look like they were gravel at one time but now mostly mud when it's rainy and dirt otherwise. But the sites are large, have a good amount of space between them with a picnic table and fire pit. We were there in rainy mid-march, and we enjoyed the park practically to ourselves. The friendly and helpful camp host helped us at check-in and came by if he saw us out.

The main draw here (other than the location on the beautiful north coast) is the elk herd that comes to graze in the meadow and is comfortable with folks photographing them. Just don't approach too close or appear to be threatening - they're the size of small horses and the males have antlers! We saw them morning and evening the several days we were there. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

This is not a park for those who like paved roads and nice level paved sites. Our site was in what they call the meadow area on the outer loop. It was mostly grass and dirt, with a little gravel and it was very unlevel. It would be nice if they would do some pad maintenance. The wifi didn't work for us, we did have weak Verizon phone service, no tv service, but the other utilities worked fine. We stayed there 2 nights and enjoyed seeing Elk in the park. We stayed there in a 37' travel trailer, our site was an easy back in site and the site spacings were spacious. It was quiet at night, but there is a lot of highway noise all other times. It is less than a mile from a beautiful Pacific Ocean beach park. Management was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again. We have stayed here many times in the last 40 years (used to be a member park). Enjoy staying out front and seeing the elk herd wander around. Close to the beach.

The sites are gravel with grass between the sites and ample space between sites. Used 30 amp and it worked fine.

No problem with the roads in the park. We will stay here again. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

We chose this park because I wanted to walk the beaches to look for agates and this park was near Agate beach. I have to echo many of the other reviewers' comments and only gave it an overall rating of 5 because of the Elk.

- The park is run down. What once was probably a beautiful property is certainly no longer worthy of the word "Resort."

- The woman who ran the office appeared confused and easily flustered.

- While the "wooded" section of the park was beautiful, half of it was occupied by full-time residents with run-down units.

- The field section was just that; a field. And while the Elk are amazing to see they leave poop everywhere so walker beware! (I posted a picture of the Elk grazing in and around the camping area).

On a positive note, we did have great reception with Verizon while our friend's AT&T service was nonexistent. And, we took a lovely 1 1/2 mile walk to the beach and did find a few agates.

If you want to see the Elk, which is spectacular, or walk the beach, this might be a good place to stay if you don't have too high of expectations for the park. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

This is the most difficult to review RV Park I have run across in over six years of travel. It is by no means a "resort" but staying here has some unique benefits. First the good...yes their are elk present either actually in the park itself or very nearby. There is a pasture full of trail horses adjacent to the park. This provided great entertainment for the grandkids. Roads within the park are mostly gravel and easy to navigate with any size rig. Sites are large and the amount of space between them provides a degree of privacy. Now the not so good...on the one day I visited them, the bathrooms were filthy. Sites are old gravel that needs to be renewed. This made leveling more of a challenge than it needed to be. Many long term residents who seemed to be friendly but some of the rigs were dilapidated at best. Price was high compared to similar parks but this may be the norm for this high cost area. I believe the park has a new owner. With a lot of hard work this park can become a destination but right now it has a way to go. Unless improvements are made I would probably look for a different park in the area. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Gave it a 7 because it was a field with Elk droppings everywhere. That being said I actually picked it because of the possibility of being able to see Elk right up against my RV. Back in 2006 I was passing through here and spotted around 50 Elk in the campground. I said then that if I ever had the chance I would stay here, so I did. Elk didn't come in the night we were there but I did spot 5 across the highway right before dark. Wi-Fi worked and the restrooms were very clean. Very helpful people at check-in and the things they sold out of their small grocery was very reasonably priced considering how far we were from town. Far enough from the highway that noise was not an issue. Also we were led to our site so finding it was easy. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This park has two different areas; one in a heavily wooded area and one in a large field. Since the weather was cool we stayed in the field. The pull through sites are overgrown gravel, long, and generally level. The services and Wi-Fi worked well and the Elk Herd that visits during the early morning is large and very interesting. This RV park is very rustic and has a western feel. There is horse pasture backing part of the property and horses will greet you at the fence line if you have a treat for them. There is a herd of wild Elk that come into the campground daily, which is quite amazing. There is a little bit of elk droppings, "so watch your step!" The campground has seen better days but is good for an overnight stop. The manager bakes the best blackberry pie I have ever eaten, the pie is worth the stop! They are extremely friendly and helpful! Poorly maintained. Pads covered with grass. Animal waste everywhere. No one in the office during our 24 hours in the park. Sewer connection was so far back that I waited till we left, then moved the trailer further back to connect and dump. We left money in an envelope in a simple box at the door. Anyone could have reached in the slot to take it. Not our problem. Long time campers said that the park was either in bankruptcy or nearly so. On a positive note, it's a nice setting, with elk roaming around, fog rolling in from the ocean. Dry Lagoon State Park was a one mile walk, starting just across the road. Sites were wide, though no shrubbery or trees separated the sites. Note that earlier reviewers said they take Passport America. But PA does not list them now. $27 was too high for this park. I would pass this one by in the future. We camped at Elk Country RV Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
