We have stayed in this campground twice before & have really enjoyed the area. This year we camped one night & in the a.m. a park staff member knocked on our door & said we had to move our trailer so they could mow & water the grass because the fair is coming up. The staff member waited on the mower while we packed up which seemed very rude. The fair is over 3 weeks away. The fair customers are apparently more important than other customers.Onsite restrooms were locked during our stay. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful campground. All sites are backin with ample space. We camped here in a travel trailer. If ever through this area again we will definitely camp here again. My only complaint is there is no bench in the shower and that is very minor. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Very quite, back in grass sites and easy to get to off highway. There were no picnic tables or fire rings and the sites were narrow but long, 30 amp only. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Nice grassy area. About 25 back-in sites. Clean electric/sewer/water connections. Only 2 other campers. The sites are close together but with only 2 others in camp we parked our tow vehicle in the site next door. Nice clean restrooms with showers at the end of the row of campsites. NO PASSPORT America discount. Regular "special" rate is $18 night. They also offer a monthly rate. Nice and quiet. I would definitely come back here. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We had plans to spend two nights here, and were told by phone that there were many open sites (Their Passport America Ad advertises 70 sites). On arrival, we found that there were only 24 sites with hookups, and only a few with 50A power, and most were taken by waterfowl hunters. Sites are grass, which was long, and not very level. The first site we tried was a 50A site but our surge protector displayed a "reverse polarity" error and wouldn't connect. We tried two others, both 30A with the same error reading. As a result, we left without staying. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stopped for 1 night. We only saw about 30 sites on grass, back-in and level. No one else was there. We checked all of the connections and finally found a 50 amp site. It was a self check-in with not much information at the kiosk. Later a pick-up drove through and stopped to ask how long we were staying as they wanted to water the grass where we were parked. They waited until we left the next day. I've read the other reviews and am convinced there must be another parking area because we didn't see any restrooms. Gave a high rating as the price was right, it had full hook-ups, & was quiet and spacious. Again, it was great for 1 night. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The little town was very sad. Most shops were boarded up. We found the "Jolly Kone" in town and had a decent burger. Thank goodness because it was the only restaurant open. The town had very wide, empty streets and only 1 market.

Grass level sites. The sites seemed close but there were no other campers near by. Good location for visits to Tule Lake Lava Beds. There is a nice museum at the fairgrounds. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

I'll just echo the comments of the previous reviewer, except to say that the activities available include Lava Beds National Monument, Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, WWII Japanese "Relocation" Center, and a CCC camp also used for prisoners of WWII. The tiny town, with very few amenities, is rich in fascinating opportunities. The visitor center at the fairgrounds houses a very full museum, and tours of the relocation center and CCC camp are available on Saturdays. One can easily spend four or five days here. As stated earlier, the hookups are excellent. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Pull in, pick your site and self-pay. There were only one or two other campers there the whole seven days we stayed. This was an excellent value to have Full Hookups for only $18 dollars a night and be centrally located to some many things to do and see. Some sights are shaded and some back up to the canal that separates the fairgrounds from the farms. No picnic tables but we seldom use them since we carry our own tables and chairs. We stayed in a 35ft 5th wheel, easy in and out. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We loved the location. It was centrally located to Lava Beds National Monument, Tulelake Camp (historical) and Tulelake Wildlife Refuge (a birders paradise). The Museum at the fairgrounds is a must see.

This is a very simple RV park, sites are on grass with full hook ups. I did not find any 50 amp service, but the 30 amp worked well. There are a couple of partially shaded spots. Self-pay station and nice bathrooms with showers round out the amenities. $18 per night. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty campground that meets our needs for an overnight stay. Two issues drop the rating from an 8 to 7. Also, as I write more reviews, I find that I'm more discriminating between overnight campgrounds vs destination campgrounds. I tend to be more forgiving of 1-night stands. The grass sites are reasonably level and easy to access. There are about 24 full hookup sites and dozens more can be accommodated in various electric/water/dry combinations during major events. We were the only ones there during our one-night stay. The electric/water/sewer connections are new and in good condition. I liked that they are all set into concrete foundations and not just sprouting out of the grass like some weeds. The bathrooms were very clean but had no hot water. The regular rate is listed on Passport America as $30-$36 but the price posted on the "Iron Ranger" was $18 for both PA and the regular rate. We didn't bother to ask about it since we were only staying 1 night. Customer service is lacking and indifferent. They weren't rude, just didn't care. When asked about the hot water, the man replied he had used it last week and it was fine. I'm a stickler for customer service so that dropped their rating by a full point. The ranger and the intern at the Tule Lake WWII Japanese Internment Camp Memorial were both very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Very pleasant self-registration campground behind fairground buildings with views over distend farmlands. We are here on a Saturday night in May, and are the only ones here. Nicely watered and manicured lawn all around, and the sites are on level lawn.

Would stay here again. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We had the campground entirely to ourselves and it was so-o-o quiet. We are behind the fairground buildings in a very grassy site and the utilities work very well. It's only problem is the bath/shower rooms which haven't recovered from the recent county fair and are not very clean. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

The sites aren't really pull through, unless you drive on the grass behind them. This park is behind a fair grounds. It had good power, water and sewer and was a quiet place to spend a night. It is not far from Lava Beds National Monument. There was a good Verizon 4G signal. The sites are on grass and are not very level. We camped at Tulelake - Butte Valley Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.
