This is not your usual RV park and is hard to rate. This is a very popular campground and is often full. No reservations are taken. There are no utilities, but the main plus of this park is having the Pacific Ocean right out your door. You must park your RV parallel to the sea-wall, which we find helps us in not noticing rigs parked in front of or behind us. All sites are 45' long and are a tight fit for very large RVs with a tow or towed vehicle. The sites are between the sea-wall and the old coastal highway. Train tracks run along the other side of the road and US-101 is just inland and above the tracks, so you may hear trains and some traffic above the sound of the surf. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The city of Ventura for shopping and dining is a few miles away. Santa Barbara is about 20 miles up the coast. There are usually shore birds at the water's edge. We usually see dolphins swim by at least once a day. During migration season Gray Whales may be spotted further off shore. Sunsets from here are often very nice.

Overall Rating:

We were fortunate enough to get into site #127, which is the furthest south one. Also wide enough for our toad. Spaces are exactly 45 foot long, and there's no "going over the lines" (including slide-outs). Been here several times, and things have changed. The burgeoning homeless camp down the road has provided the area with a local batch of thieves that will steal anything left outside. We added two solar powered motion detector lights, and they went off a few times...and we heard the "mass exit" soon thereafter. So, a good investment. There is a convenient "honey wagon" service that comes by on Tue, Thur, and Sat. It costs $40 to dump your tanks, and $20 for 50 gallons of water. Given the place is totally dry camping, and there is no "saving of sites (even if you have paid) if you leave to go dump...we thought it was a valuable service. The upside is the incredible unobstructed coastal Calif views. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Reagan Library is only 45 minutes away, and a "don't miss". Downtown Ventura is filled with eating areas, and a great "vintage" movie theater in case the weather gets windy.

Beware of thieves that patrol this area! This is a "near boondocking" experience of RVs parked in a long line next to the highway. There are no services available, and you pay $29/night at posted boxes along the highway, and park in a numbered spot. The upside is that it is right next to the ocean. You can open your window and hear the crashing of the waves on the bulkhead. There is enough room to set up a couple of lawn chairs between your RV and the rock seawall. To reach the beach, you have to climb over the rock seawall, which is doable but can be slippery.

We stayed in our travel trailer, with our brand new generator mounted on a stand on the tongue. Around 8 pm that night, thieves tried to steal our generator (it was locked down with cables) and couldn't, so instead stole our trailer's battery while we were in the camper! We didn't notice at first since we were using camping lights inside. It was shocking and frightening. The state patrol said this unfortunately happens frequently along this camping area. I was concerned they would return with bolt cutters and try to steal our new generator. So at 9:30 at night, we packed up and had to find another place to stay. Simply an awful experience. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nice place to stay overlooking the beach. Only draw back is the train and the people who drive the road. The speed limit is way too fast and very dangerous walking along the side with a dog. Dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash. Fires allowed in the rocks at the campsite. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.

The cheapest oceanfront property you'll ever rent! Tons of open spots on a December day, but I'll bet they pack up in warmer weather. The proximity to the crashing surf might be a bit disconcerting to some (loud!), but I've never had the chance to live this close to the beach. Sites are a tad different in size (maybe a foot or two), so scout carefully if you need more room. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is boondocking right at the ocean's edge! It's right on PCHwy 1, and because it was "off season" we didn't have any trouble driving right into a spot...but I'm sure that at other times, boy, it would be difficult! It's a self-service kiosk, cash, check or on line. We built a little fire along the rocks and enjoyed the surf and the fantastic sunset! Absolutely beautiful. This parking area is on Highway 1, bumper to bumper between train tracks and ocean. There are no services. Campgrounds with pay showers are at either end of the parkway. It sounds grim, but it's delightful. The ocean drowns the train noise and each MH has their own private view. There are steep rocks to climb, but we park at the south end and walk to the campground where there are stairs. It's a dog-friendly beach, great for walking or sunning. We live close by and have reviewed this park before. We really love it. It's our "beach house." Also-no reservations, so come by Wednesday if you want a weekend spot. Tips for other Campers:

Groceries nearby. Seasonal grill at campgrounds. The car must fit in the 45 foot spot with the rig, so pull up to the line. Don't park illegally. The ticket is $90????

Rincon has the best views ever. You are right along hwy 1. There is some traffic and train noise, though the better sound is waking up to the ocean. The only down side there is to this park (though they are there for a reason) are the large rocks to climb down to get to the beach. Some sites offer a sandy beach, while others offer no sand, but little rocks. If there were full hookups, I would rate it 10+. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.

You are getting, a road and railway line on one side of you which is completely offset by the Pacific Ocean literally out your door. We closed the roadside windows and blinds, opened the oceanside windows and the roar of the sea one night was so loud we couldn't hear anything else. There is a rock wall that is easily climbable and apart from high tide when there is no sand, the beach is great for swimming and walking. We never expected to be so impressed with camping by a road. We had 2 of the best sunsets ever. We would definitely stay here again. Note: no restrooms or showers. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

As previously noted, this campground is a spectacular find. The Ranger who came by to check on the campground was very nice when she asked us to move a bit further into our site. (Our slides were poking out of our site.) So be sure to stay within the lines at each space. Just a wonderful, wonderful location. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.

Love this place and it never lets me down. That is until now! Seriously, they are charging for my dog! They don't offer any amenities for the dog, and they charge $1/ night. Can we say rip off. Not an incentive for me to pick-up after my dog, but I always do. I wish the spaces were a little bigger so it would be easier to maneuver in as most people pull right up to the line in front of me and behind me. Also I have a tow vehicle that I'd love to fit into the spots. The other thing I'd love to see are more of these spots along the ocean front in Ventura. They are awesome, but there are so few spots. Wow. We never realized this area was available, boondock right at beach side parallel parked end to end alongside the beach (with highway/railroad other side) so it is more private, spacious, and quiet than side by side campsites. So easy to get into and the ranger is friendliest I ever met. No hassles, just park and pay envelope in slot. Frequent trash bins provided along the camping strip, dogs OK leashed on beach ($1/day per dog). 14 day winter limit, 7 day in summer. Just great experience compared to nearby state beach camps. Very nice views and a great place to camp. We did however have our bikes stolen the last night we were there. They were locked up and they still managed to cut everything off. I would stay here again but be a little more cautious. It is pitch black out there when there is no moon out. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: May, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

There have been some recent changes here. Rates have increased to $28/night and a $1/head pet fee is been added but it remains the lowest cost beach camping available in Southern California. As others have reported this is a one-of-a-kind experience. RVs are parallel parked on the shoulder of a highway that was a primary route along the coast until it was replaced by a larger and more modern freeway. The highway is still in use and there is an adjacent rail line that carries heavy freight and passenger trains but much of the noise they create is drowned out by sounds of the waves breaking just steps away. Access to the dog-friendly beach is good at the south half but difficult north because the parking sites are atop a high seawall of boulders. Sites are 45’ long. There are no amenities other than informal fire pits among the rocks at most sites. No fires are permitted on the sand but I confirmed with a Ranger that they are OK in the rocks. We have camped here many times over the past 15 years and have never had a bad experience. We will definitely go there again. We camped at Rincon Parkway Campground in a Motorhome.
