We just pulled in here late on Labor Day on our way to the Oregon Coast with friends who also had a 24' travel trailer. We got two spots. Roads are rather steep but there was sufficient room to back in our trailers and park our trucks. Lots of trees and shade with some huge redwoods in the campground and adjacent areas. Bathrooms were still a mess from the busy 3-day holiday weekend. We drove back south on the Avenue of the Giants about 6 miles to a small town with 1 restaurant that had some of the best food in California! We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Find the next town 6 miles south on the Avenue of the Giants to have some of the best food in California in a little town whose name I can't even find on my maps. There are also some awesome redwoods to see.

We stayed at the Hidden Creek Campground, which is carved into a relatively steep hillside. Sites fairly close together. Everthing either uphill or downhill, not the best for fairly fit senior walkers like me. Trails poorly marked and no distances listed, just signs that say to this place or that. Never got a sense we were among the redwoods. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Bee sure you know which campground you are at and which exit to take off 101. Can be confusing. Not much signage until you are right on the CG turnoff.

Stayed in Burlington campground. There's road noise from Hwy 101, recommend staying closer to Ave. of the Giants. Reserve carefully, some sites are smallish. We stayed in site 37, and had to go the wrong way on a one-way for a bit to orient our trailer to the site. The scenery is well worth a visit. I'd avoid weekends - the place gets a bit "party hardy". We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The nearest reasonably priced dump station is Richardson
Grove RV Park, 25+ mile south. Plan accordingly.

Burlington Campground next to the Visitors Center. The campground is located between hwy 101 and Avenue of the Giants so no matter where you're camped, you'll get road noise. That being said, camping in a grove of redwoods is mystical. They did a good job of shielding sites with giant stumps and trees since there is no ground shrubs or sun because of the dense canopy. Bathrooms are new and 50 cents for 5 minutes for a hot shower is a luxury after hiking through the beautiful trails. There is AT&T cell coverage but not enough bars for Internet. Nice kitchen washing station and plenty of potable water faucets. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great park on the Avenue of the Giants. Campsite is right in the trees with lots of lush vegetation. There are hiking trails that lead to a cool, relaxing riverfront beach and way beyond for the serious hikers. Great campsite for children. We wished we could've stayed here longer! We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for three nights in site 56. Fit our 34' TT and truck just fine, slipped in between the tall trees. No hookups and no satellite, but in the summer there are ranger programs and a swimming hole in the Eel River. The kids loved climbing on the redwood stumps and riding around the camp. The showers were clean and everyone was respectful of quiet hours. A great home base for visiting the area if you can do without hookups. Overall Rating:

We actually found the campground itself to be very enjoyable and very scenic. The low rating is due to the horrible 5 miles of road one must take into the park from the highway. I suppose it largely depends on the rig (a 4WD truck camper would likely fare better than our 31 Class C) but our overall experience here was a poor one. Even at a slow crawl the road was extremely rough. I would not camp here again. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here at the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Albee Creek in a 33-foot motorhome. This should be tent camping only as there are only a few sites that will accommodate a motorhome and they are not level. The access road is a 5+ mile, one lane, full of pot-holes, blind curves and redwood trees that our motorhome mirrors only missed by inches. We would not stay here again. Overall Rating:

An incredible state park in the middle of the California State Coast Redwood tree forest. Sites are limited to about 33' in length due to the abundance of old growth redwood trees. Many are over 100' tall. Many other forested places to visit nearby. This park is also next door to the visitor center. Forget satellite reception, the trees are so heavy it's impossible. But somehow I never had time to be bored. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site. All are roomy, even though the park roads are "snug". A highly recommended state park. However take note, NO dump station is available at this park. The restroom and shower facilities are immaculate however. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park in a Motorhome.
