We did not get to stay here because they said our trailer (27' Airstream) was too long. Which is the main reason I wanted to leave this review, because an earlier review, dated May 2017 said they let them stay (they were over 25') and they saw an even longer RV (35'). This was the only reason we attempted to stay here. I did not want someone else to go through what we did.

They had us drive through the campground to pick some spots. There were several that could easily accommodate us. The roads were a little tight for us but we went through the whole campground without a scratch. When we got back to the front where the ranger was that is when they turned us away because they said we were too long.

I am not leaving it a bad review because The place looks awesome. You are right in the heart of the Redwoods, The campground looked clean and we would have loved to stay here. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Site 24 / 58 sites: $49. This is one of three campgrounds in the park. It is located on the Avenue of the Giants right next to the Visitor Center. Beautiful campground without hookups, among the Redwood Trees. There are two bathhouses with pay showers. You can walk the trails across the street and visit the exhibits in the Visitor Center. This is a nice campground and we really enjoyed it. The website says no units over 24ft but there were many sites that we could fit into it and we are over 25ft. There was even an RV in the campground that was over 36 ft. There seems to be a number of overnighters that stop here while traveling in California. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Campground is loaded with redwoods and is beautiful. $35 for a tent site with no electric is a little steep, especially when there are pay showers too. Sites not too close together, but nighttime noise, even though quiet hours are posted, is annoying with no consideration from other campers. Never saw a ranger once it was past quiet hours. Typical state park campground. We did not make a reservation and had plenty of first serve sites available. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Tent.

Overall Rating:

We were going to look for a private park with hookups, but decided to stay in Burlington Campground for the gorgeous setting - in the midst of redwoods. Also 33' is the listed max size, but our 35' motor home would fit in several with room for our toad car, especially #32, 33 (handicapped) and 37; possibly others such as #58 but they were closed for the season. You need to navigate the drives VERY Carefully, but it is doable. Campground host was very friendly and helpful in suggesting sites. Even though it was February and few campers, I would still say most sites exceeded the average state park or private campgrounds. Verizon worked but not T-Mobile. Pricey for no hookups, but you paid for scenery and convenience to Founders Grove, Visitors Center, etc. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground in an old growth Redwood grove. Very close to lots of terrific Redwood hikes. Not recommended for larger rigs because it is difficult to get to the smallish campsites. No services. Weak AT&T and Verizon signal. Clean restrooms, pay showers, friendly staff. Terrific visitors center next door. It is very dark in the grove so staying for long stretches of time can wear on a person. $35 dollars a night is pricey, but well tended. Maintenance comes twice a day. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Burlington is adequate for a visit to Humboldt Redwoods State Park, but the more remote Albee Creek campground is more popular for good reason. Burlington suffers from road noise from highway 101 and the Avenue of the Giants, which runs right past the campground. The campsites are nice, with picnic tables and fire rings, but they are very close to each other with little or no privacy. There are impressive old growth redwood stumps everywhere, and the campground is well shaded under second growth redwoods. The bathrooms and showers were clean. The Eel River is a short walk away and was warm enough in late June to wade in comfortably. There is a large grove of old growth right across the Avenue of the Giants from the campground. The nicest thing about Burlington was having the park visitor's center next door, with Junior Ranger walks as well as adult/family nature walks in the old growth grove. Overall Rating:

We stayed in a 30 foot RV being pulled by a 22 foot truck. We were given a dirt RV site that was large enough to park my truck in front of the trailer and still not block the road or site next to us. I needed a 1" board to level my trailer side to side. There were probably 10 sites I could easily fit my rig into. The major problem with this campground is the access road. The camp ground road is paved, but due to many large trees, you should walk the road prior to committing your rig to avoidable damage. I love the Redwood Trees and the beauty of the forest off sets the lack of electric, water, and sewer hookup. Verizon works well. AT&T is almost non-existent. Overall Rating:

Very expensive campground, but the only one that was open in the area. We have a Class A 34 ft motorhome and it was extremely tight navigating the roads. A 33 ft limit is imposed on the campground, but we walked through prior to committing to stay here and were ultimately able to navigate the roads. Site 20 is a pull through site and could accommodate our unit, but not our tow vehicle. There were all of 4 people (including ourselves) in the campground so it was not an issue. Site 21 could also accommodate a larger unit, but is not level. In general, most of the sites are small and not level. This is a tenting campground or for people with small RVs that have lots of leveling blocks. A 33 ft Class A will have difficulties with most of the sites as your back tires will likely be off the ground if you try to level your rig and there are only a few sites that can accommodate that size. You will have difficultly fitting into almost every site if you have a tow vehicle and a larger unit. The campsites are on dirt, but the roads are paved. The campground was very dark and cold because of the second growth coast redwoods (most of the old growth redwoods are simply stumps). There is no brush between the sites, so if it's busy expect no privacy and to hear all your neighbors conversations and the road noise. The campground is adjacent to the Avenue of the Giants. A lot of sites back onto the highway. This was not an issue for us, because the area is basically empty at this time of year, but may be an issue if the road is busy. The showers are coin operated - .50 to start. The sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and food storage. There are two walking paths that leave from the campground. They are nice walks. 0.6 miles in length. The visitors centre is adjacent to the campground. Class A's be very careful if you pull into the visitor centre as one of the entrance/exit ramps is steep, the other is not. We would not stay here again. This seemed a very dark and wooded campground, and not for larger rigs. We have a 23' HTT and it was difficult getting around the loops. But you can't beat camping in the middle of a grove of redwoods. You expect to see elves or leprechauns to pop out. Has newer bathroom facilities than most state park campgrounds. Luckily got one of the largest sites, it was not very level, but was a great location. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The roads are very tight for any 8.5' wide RV. Many of the sites are also short for any RV near or over 30'. We also feel that $35 is pretty steep for a campground with no hookups. We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Motorhome.

We opted to dry camp here for even though we had already paid for 1 night at a private park nearby (no shade) with full hook-ups. Why? Because we wanted to camp underneath the giant redwoods! All RV spots were back-ins, no pull-throughs and tight turns. We had no reservations but asked anyways. They said to return at 8:30pm to check availability for a campsite, but overflow in the nearby parking lot was first-come, first-served. We lucked out with a spot, #25, which according to the website, only fits to 25' but our 30' fit easily. Neighbor informed us that the reason the people left for another spot was because #25 is where the noisy teens go to the nearby river at all hours and kept them up. We experienced very little traffic and were happy to be here. A busy campground but we enjoyed the magic of sleeping under the redwoods! Would stay again, but will also check nearby Albee Creek CG. One more thing: Burlington is next door to the exceptional Visitor Center. I listened in on some well-guided tours. Great exhibits and activities for kids. (Nearest dump stations were several miles north or south of the CG.) We camped at Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Burlington Campground in a Motorhome.
