The property is experiencing issues with employee turnover so somethings were not arranged as discussed for our group. Management was quick to rectify our issues as much as possible. We really appreciated being able to use the rec room. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be aware that oleander bushes can be harmful to your children and pets.

The campground was in very good shape. Our site was level and because it is off season we didn't have anyone near us. The only problem was the closeness to the highway due to the sound but it was also a good thing for travel around the area. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Calico Ghost Town is a neat trip and very close by. Make sure you pay the extra 2.50 for a tour of the mine.

The only real complaint is the the campground is right next to the freeway, so it is noisy. On the other hand, that freeway location makes for an easy in and out to get where you are going. The campground is clean; sites are fairly level, and there is vegetation between sites. Sites and roads are gravel. Hookups worked well and were very convenient. There is a rec room with games, a pool, a store, and a playground. It's a really decent place to stay with the drawbacks being that you are in the desert and next to the freeway. Other than that, the campground is great! We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

We have been going to this campground on and off since 1988. This KOA is under new management and they have really made some improvements. The "antiques" which used to be in front of the office have been moved to the back of the campground where they put in large community fire rings. There is a new fenced in dog run with a picnic table and umbrella. Check-in was quick and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We were assigned a shady pull-through (which we requested on our reservations). The pool area has been upgraded with shade shelters, hammocks, and a barbecue grill. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a Dairy Queen at the interstate exit!

We rate this based on it being a pass through park for us, not a destination park. There are new owners since the last time we stayed, and they are giving it more TLC. We LOVE the new giant dog run!!! Our puppy could actually run safely. We were led right to our spot by a helpful employee, and the sites are easy to get out of with some privacy bushes. Check in was fast and efficient. We only wish they had a second location around Baker so we could go little further on the 15 before stopping. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It's near Calico Ghost town which is worth a day or half a day to see.

Our site was level and clean. We were parked next to a tree which is a real plus in the desert. This campground is 3 miles from I40 and ends up next to I15. We were back in the campground enough not to hear the traffic. It was a little tricky getting to the site with no escort. For just an overnight stay it was fine, just the fee was way overpriced. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Good sized level sites. Some shaded. They use Olenaders as site separators and they have a sign posted that warns about the danger to your pets and children if they eat the bushes. They run a free shuttle to the Calico Ghost Town. This is a good park for kids. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Making the run from the California Coast to Southern AZ is always very hot in the summer. Although not a destination this KOA is a good overnight stop. Level gravel sites with shade and room for larger motor homes. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only problem we encountered was the mice that invaded our camper and traveled all the way to Grand Junction before we were able to rid ourselves of their company. Nice pool. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Calico Ghost Town. The staff will transport you to and from the town. A lot of fun.

Well, staying in the Mojave in late June is never ideal. It was 109 F. Thankfully, we have AC and the shore power was stable. The campground was about half full. The pool was showing its age, but so cool and relaxing on such a hot day. The sites are close together, but divided by shrubbery in the center of the park. All sites are gravel, and summer winds blow a lot of dust around. Then a passing shower leaves your rig caked in a thin layer of mud. None of this is under the control of the KOA owners, but it's good to know what you will face when traveling through the desert during summer. They filled our propane tank just prior to departure and the rate was reasonable. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Take online reservations with a grain of salt. Our gravel pull-through full-hookup site was actually a dirt back-in water/electric only site. Front desk acted surprised at the error, even after processing my check-in that said it was a full hookup site. Park was booked solid, so we were stuck for the first night. They moved us to a proper site that opened up the next morning and gave us a discount. This KOA shows quite a bit of wear and tear, though they keep it fairly clean. I've deducted two points for the registration error and one for decrepit facilities. P.s. Best phone in that reservation. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Travel Trailer.

A very convenient park. We got a pull through site and it was just big enough for our 39 foot coach with the toad attached. Easy to get around with very nice facilities. You can walk out into the wide open spaces right behind the park which is a great place to walk the dog. The internet worked well. Our only complaint was all but the one handicapped shower were pay showers which I thought was a bit ridiculous since the rates should include use of the shower. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

We always stay at this park when passing through the area as it is the nicest. The facilities are always spotlessly clean. There is an excellent laundry with a large washer and I always plan to do laundry here. Showers are individual. We had a nice shady site and there is vegetation between each site. Although the interstate is close by, traffic noise does not interfere with our sleep. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Gas nearby is expensive ... wait until Barstow to get it for a considerable savings.

Sites are nicely separated from neighbours by oleander bushes, providing some privacy. They are wide but not very long; disconnecting is a must if you're in a bigger rig. The desert sand is covered with fine gravel throughout the park, which makes it 'cleaner' and it doesn't track into the RV as much. Hookups all worked very well. Staff very friendly and helpful, the caretaker even filled my propane bottle and had it reinstalled on my RV by the time I was done paying. OK doggy park, but even better is to just unleash in the adjacent desert that goes on for miles and miles. Some highway noise but not too bad. Good cable, strong Verizon. Nice pool and playground. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for an overnight stay as easy access from I-15. Very large and level gravel sites and picnic table in good condition. Clean and nice restrooms and laundry. Campsite is kept in very good condition. There is highway noise, cable TV picture not great, and Wi-Fi flaky, but OK for overnight. Price on high side. If you stay here you must visit Peggy Sue's 50"s Diner just half a mile from the campsite. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
