This is actually a good Koa. Unfortunately they are in a dying area. It is no frills... basically desert with no shade in our area. Perhaps avoiding summer heat would be a better idea. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overpriced, 10 dollars more than other KOAs we've stayed at. Desk clerk not personable at all, bordering on rude. Showers were pay, ridiculous at the camping price. Had our disabled parent with us; how to put her through that gravel to the bathroom? We only did that once, it was just too hard on her, my husband, and the wheelchair. The handicap bathroom all was too small and almost impossible to use with a wheelchair. Store was not well equipped, Dog park was nice. We won't be back. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Sites are snug but separated with shrubs for some privacy. Each unisex restroom was a separate room with a shower. These rooms were very nicely tiled & were very clean. There is a shower token machine but no longer in use. Wi-fi was very weak in the back of the campground. All the regular/expected activities of KOA campgrounds. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a typical KOA; over priced for what you get. Unfortunately, everything else in this area is not good so I elected to pay the inflated price and stay here. This is a decent park, but not worth $46 with the KOA Value Kard discount. This was for a 30 amp site as all 50 amp sites were already reserved. The staff was friendly. There is a nice little store on site with camping supplies, groceries, and drinks. The entire park is gravel. The sites are level and have adequate width. They have bushes planted between sites to provide additional privacy. The pull-through sites are not overly long so our 40' motor home and toad completely filled it plus some. There is cable service with 23 stations. There is WiFi, but the signal was so weak it wasn't usable. Several of the sites have nice shade trees on them. This might be a problem if you want to use your satellite dish. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Stayed here a couple months without a tow vehicle. The view of the mountains are great. Laundry had normal size machines, but had very big dryers so made it very cheap to use. Was in the very back of park so WIFI wasn't the best. Staff was very nice! Have lots of things for the kids to do. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The property is experiencing issues with employee turnover so somethings were not arranged as discussed for our group. Management was quick to rectify our issues as much as possible. We really appreciated being able to use the rec room. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

The campground was in very good shape. Our site was level and because it is off season we didn't have anyone near us. The only problem was the closeness to the highway due to the sound but it was also a good thing for travel around the area. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Calico Ghost Town is a neat trip and very close by. Make sure you pay the extra 2.50 for a tour of the mine.

The only real complaint is the the campground is right next to the freeway, so it is noisy. On the other hand, that freeway location makes for an easy in and out to get where you are going. The campground is clean; sites are fairly level, and there is vegetation between sites. Sites and roads are gravel. Hookups worked well and were very convenient. There is a rec room with games, a pool, a store, and a playground. It's a really decent place to stay with the drawbacks being that you are in the desert and next to the freeway. Other than that, the campground is great! We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

We have been going to this campground on and off since 1988. This KOA is under new management and they have really made some improvements. The "antiques" which used to be in front of the office have been moved to the back of the campground where they put in large community fire rings. There is a new fenced in dog run with a picnic table and umbrella. Check-in was quick and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We were assigned a shady pull-through (which we requested on our reservations). The pool area has been upgraded with shade shelters, hammocks, and a barbecue grill. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is our overnight stop on the way to points south. We've stayed here for years, one night at a time. It is noisy and a bit dusty, but has the BEST dog run anywhere - acres and acres of open land right out the back gate. They also have a fenced dog run but if you've got runners like we do, that open land in the back is heaven. Our only complaint is this place is WAY overpriced, and they usually do not give you the campsite you request, even if you book far in advance. Also, the showers and site water supply freeze in very cold weather. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Barstow is basically the middle of nowhere so the food is poor and there's not much to do. If you fancy a long drive down a dirt road, Rainbow Basin, just northwest of Barstow is an interesting place to visit and it also has dry camping.

We rate this based on it being a pass through park for us, not a destination park. There are new owners since the last time we stayed, and they are giving it more TLC. We LOVE the new giant dog run!!! Our puppy could actually run safely. We were led right to our spot by a helpful employee, and the sites are easy to get out of with some privacy bushes. Check in was fast and efficient. We only wish they had a second location around Baker so we could go little further on the 15 before stopping. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Our site was level and clean. We were parked next to a tree which is a real plus in the desert. This campground is 3 miles from I40 and ends up next to I15. We were back in the campground enough not to hear the traffic. It was a little tricky getting to the site with no escort. For just an overnight stay it was fine, just the fee was way overpriced. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Good sized level sites. Some shaded. They use Olenaders as site separators and they have a sign posted that warns about the danger to your pets and children if they eat the bushes. They run a free shuttle to the Calico Ghost Town. This is a good park for kids. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.

Making the run from the California Coast to Southern AZ is always very hot in the summer. Although not a destination this KOA is a good overnight stop. Level gravel sites with shade and room for larger motor homes. We camped at Barstow / Calico KOA in a Motorhome.
