5 Parks near Antonito, Colorado
Jun 2016 - $32.00
This RV park is the closest to Antonito, so it is very useful if you are going to ride the Cumbres & Toltec train. It is also located on a river on which many people like to fly fish. The park is in the shady river bottom surrounded by cottonwood trees, rather than in the high desert with its merciless sun, so it was pleasant in the summer. The hosts are very kind and helpful and there is a sweet black lab named Ruby that calls this RV park home. It was fine for a short stay (2 nights). However, it is junky and does need some TLC. Our spot was on grass and wasn't level, but we did have full hookups and plenty of room between us and the nearest neighbor. - amarillorvers

The actual sites were ok, on grass with trees, however the entire rv park has piles of junk everywhere. For example, broken down washers, semi bed with old satellite dishes and scapegoat metal, etc. the bathrooms and laundry were moldy and in desperate need of repair. We did not notice the new, nice rv park right across the road nor was it listed in any of our guides or we definitely would not have stayed here. They only take cash or checks, no credit cards, and there is barely enough water pressure for showering. - jjs1

An older park. The showers and the bathrooms were pretty clean but are in bad need of updating. The mosquitoes were terrible. There was no access to the river. On the positive side, the sites were nice and there were lots of trees. The people were friendly. - Ludmilla

This is a wonderful NFS campground with large shaded private sites, some on the river, plus Mogote rarely fills up even on 3 day weekends. In Colorado, campsites on any weekend are tough to come by. This makes Mogote a wonderful place for spur of the moment camping trips for those of us who love dry camping. There is no cell phone service in the campground or the canyon. So if you can't live without your phone this is not the place for you. We went to Antonito to check our calls. It was no big deal for us. In fact it was a relief to be off the grid. Activities in the area are fishing, hiking, and biking, and just kicking back.. There are 2 other NFS campgrounds nearby--Elkcreek CG and Aspen Glade--plus several private campgrounds. None have cell service. This is a remote area. But if you love getting back to nature Mogote is hard to beat. It is not the best NFS campground I've been to but it is darn good. There are 2 loops. Topside sites 1 -21 are large with shade on most sites. Many are pull-throughs that can handle most rigs. The lower loop, sites 22-41, is tighter, heavily forested and near the river. Sites 24,26, 28-30 are river side. Be advised there are mosquitoes on the lover loop. There are no hookups but water is available for filling tanks at Site 3. There are composting toilets, dumpsters, and water on both loops. You can dump at the private park next to Mogote. This was my second trip to Mogote and I will be back again. - NT2013

This is an older park and some sites are pretty close together. It is in a great location by the Conejos River and most campers were there for the fishing, to relax and for family get-togethers. Everyone was very friendly and it was really quiet at night. In early June the mosquitos were vicious, however, so beware when sitting outside, especially in the evenings. The showers and bathrooms were clean and had lots of hot water. There is a nice store in the office with ice cream and fishing gear. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. - gtogrl

What a gem! We camped here with a site right on the river and it was heaven! Luckily there was a cancellation as most spaces are booked months ahead of time. We booked our site for 2014 in December of 2013. Nice friendly staff. Seems like some of the campers stay for months at a time as they know each other and have group dinners together. Camp fires are allowed when by the riverside which is nice and spaces are spaced decently apart. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained and there is a sewer wagon that comes around several times a week. Small store that has a few things; mostly fishing stuff. Couple of towns within about a 10-15 minute drive. Only complaint is we wish they had cable TV so we could keep up with the local weather, news, etc. Wi-Fi was decent if you were near the office; otherwise forget it. Lots of hiking in the area. Definitely looking forward to our trip back! - The Talks

A FAMILY FAVORITE! We stay at Ponderosa almost every year for the past 4 years, in both tent and pop up. We love the people here, the river, the fishing, EVERYTHING. For the fourth of July they have a bunch of activities including a fund-raiser rubber duck race down the river. We would like to keep it our secret, but they deserve all the attention and the success in the world! - Maricarmen Pijem

[Moderator's note: Campground will close September 1, will reopen Memorial Weekend 2015.] Aspen Glade is a USFS CG about 15 miles west of Antonito, CO, on the Conejos River. Elevation 8500'. Many campers come here to try their luck catching native-only brown trout. The river is NOT stocked. CG has 2 levels, upper 2 loops (1-11 & 12-18) and lower loop (19-32) with more shade near river. No TV reception, no cell service, 1 radio station, even satellite TV hard to get. Nearby Cumbres and Toltec steam railroad is worth the trip. Water available, newer vault restrooms. - dave3114

If you like a lot of beautiful scenery, critters, and solitude this is the place to be. Awesome side trips into the mountains and forests in one of the prettiest parts of Colorado. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Lots of birds within the campground.
Yes, you cannot talk on your mobile phone, but you can text. When we stayed there, the internet was adequate. Yes, you have to drive a few miles for groceries in Antonito, but they have a decent selection.
We will be back to see the Aspen turn this Fall. - datestreet

We stayed here for two nights so we could ride the steam engine from Antonito to Chama, NM. The sites and roads are gravel but the sites are level. We had good internet but NO phone service or TV in this area. We needed to call home due to an emergency and the owners were very nice in allowing us to use their business phone. - CraftCrazy

Our RV Club went to this camp ground for a long weekend gathering. It was pretty good. They were very helpful & accommodating until there was a misunderstanding about conflicting information we'd been given.
It was clean, the site was fairly level. Not a lot of trees.
I don't recall what the Good Sam rate was that we paid. - K Martin
