We stayed one night 9/7 on our way from KC to Grand Lake CO. This place is fantastic. If we were full timers & had time on our side we would have stayed longer. Thank goodness my wife decided to pull up directions on google while I was following my dated GPS in the coach once we left I70. Not hard to find but it was rush hour, my GPS lacked detail, and there were a few "turns" I wouldn't have caught. Anyway, GC is awesome, sites are huge and spaced out. all utilities worked as expected. We were lucky (made reservation weeks ahead) and landed in the FHU Buffalo loop. We had deer, many deer, walking right through our site. This is an excellent place to stay and only maybe 10 minutes off of I70. We will likely stay here again in the future. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great SP/Campground. Stayed here 5 days in a 43' motorhome. Book early. Easy to get to from I-25. Friendly check-in. State park fees ($9/day) are on top of camping fees so you will need to get a day pass for non-Colorado residents. If your stay is longer you can purchase a Colorado Annual Pass for $72 good for one year. During our August visit the daily fee is waived for Veterans. The CG is Big Rig friendly- easy to navigate. Our site #28 was spotless, level concrete pad longer than our rig. FHU PT with a fire ring, picnic table and patio in Coyote loop. Utilities worked well. Great OTA, ATT cell service and WIFI. No cable. The loop is a mix of PT and back-in sites with shade to no shade. The interior of the loop is an open, well maintained grass field with scattered shade trees. The closest RV is 100'+ away unless across the street - lots of open space with a lot of wildlife. Every morning/evening you see deer feeding among the tree line or in the open grass field. We would wake up to deer outside our coach most mornings. Biking, hiking trails, fishing, boating and swim beach. The CG host for our loop shared great info about how to get around town - what to see, do and best way to get there. We did not use the restrooms/bath laundry but they appear to be clean. We will stay here again when visiting Denver. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely do the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Also Breckeridge and numerous mining towns. Walmart is a few miles south on Parker and Aurora Mall is a few miles north on 225.

Getting to the mountains is a challenge with Denver traffic so plan to spend a full day. We did several day trips to the mountains. Much easier to get to Coors Field and Mile High Stadium.

Overall Rating:

When I was ready to reserve, there were no sites available online, but an ADA site was obtained by calling the reservation center. At check-in we overheard a comment that they are frequently fully reserved 6 months in advance. During August each year, all Veterans and active duty military, regardless of state of residence, may obtain a vehicle pass for August that eliminates the $8 daily entrance fee. Thank you Colorado! The 1 pm check-in time is enforced if park is near-full. Park has a laundry. Our site was a pull-thru with a level, concrete pad and had FHUs (30 and 50 amp). The site was sunny which was fine as we wanted to use the satellite, although many sites were shaded or partially shaded. Sites were cleaned nicely after each check-out. Interior roads were paved and easy to maneuver. Room for big rigs in this park. Lots of bicyclists and fishermen. The park gets heavy day-use as it is within the Denver metro area. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We are at Cherry Creek State Park right now. Staying four nights to see kids, grandkids, neices and nephews before heading up in the mountains for a week. Cool park in the middle of the city. Other than occasional traffic noise you wouldn't know you were in a metropolitan area. Facilities are excellent. There is a maintenance guy that cleans every site after someone leaves. Fire pit was cleaned and the gravel patio area raked prior to our arrival. Our site has a level concrete pad. Lots of green space between sites. As others have lamented, there is a $9 per day charge for park access on top of camping fee. What really galled me though was having to put quarters in the machine to take a shower. :~) We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Made reservations back in January for our two week stay here. As everyone says, it's paved and clean, a beautiful park and so close to Denver. Our site had a slight view of the mountains and great sunsets. We also had cottonwood trees providing shade. About half the sites have shade trees and the others do not. We could not use satellite but many sites could. Lots of OTA stations. Nice laundry room and machines were $1.50 each. Wifi actually worked well our entire stay. Verizon signal was LTE but sure seemed slow at times. Buffalo and Abilene Loops are closest to the swim beach. As you look at the campground map the center of the loops are all large grassy areas with shade trees which is very nice. Sites are spacious. Great place to walk dogs. Very large off-leash park too. We would return. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Price is for full hookups and reflects the $9.00/day day-use fee that they charge in addition to what is paid in advance online. This park is a true gem in the middle of a very busy, crowded, noisy city. The sites are well spaced with concrete pads. Our site was level side-to-side, but had quite a slope towards the front. Very nice picnic tables and fire rings. Laundry facilities are an unexpected find in a state park, $3.00 washed and dried a load, change machines were also appreciated. The only negative is that extra $9.00 per day charge for the day use facilities that we didn't use. It makes me wonder why they don't charge the day use people $30.00 for the camping facilities that they don't use too. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Very spacious and nice park. Lots of room between sites. Stayed in both pull through and back-in and no problems with either. Nice trails and lake on site. Only issue is with reservations. If you want to stay more than 2 days, you will have to reserve way in advance or you will be moving around sites. Seems like with today's technology, they should have a better reservation system. Tips for other Campers:

Located near Aurora which has its conveniences. However, if you want to get to the mountains it a challenge with Denver traffic. Chatfield State park is more convenient if you are going to be going to the mountains more often during your stay.

I'm not sure it will let me review a park we haven't actually stayed in...just tried to make a reservation. First, you cannot make a reservation with less than 3 days advance notice. Secondly, the $30 rate for a full hookup with an 80' pullthrough which sounds very nice also has an additional $10 added for actually MAKING THE RESERVATION. Thirdly, there is a $9 charge each day for your tow vehicle or a toad, and that is for each vehicle. You can buy a pass for $70 something and avoid the $9 per day charge. You CANNOT call the State Park itself to make a reservation...it is a first come, first served park if you want to take a chance on arriving and finding a site. I talked to a rep in the office who was very nice, and asked about any places around there to ride a motorcycle and she said the traffic is very heavy around the park, but very nice inside the actual park. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice Colorado State Park. 80 ft. level concrete pull thru full hookup 30/50 amp sites. Located near Denver and in a large park with lake and other activities including fishing, boating, trails etc. Is always full during the summer so make reservations early. They charge $9.00 for a daily vehicle permit ($70.00 annual if you are staying 10 or more nights). We were only charged one fee even though in a motorhome with toad. Others were charged twice for "anything with an engine" which is ridiculous. Would stay here again. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at the Cherry Creek State Park campground for 9 days starting on 25 May 2018. We've stayed here many times before and have always found it to be an excellent location, never had any complaints. The reason for my 3 star service rating is because while they were cutting the grass (and overall it was neatly maintained) around our trailer, the grass (or should I say weeds), were very high and that lead to a bunch of mosquitoes being all around our trailer all day and night. It was just about impossible to go outside of the trailer without dousing yourself with bug spray. In all, the other times we've stayed at this park this has never happened and in walking around the camp, the bugs seemed to just reside around our spot. To me, this was clearly due to the Camp not keeping up with the cutting as they should. Other than feeling like we were human bug food, it was a very good stay and I would strongly recommend this park to anyone staying in the Denver area. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall a very nice state park. Plenty of trails for hiking and biking. Sites are concrete pads and level. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Firewood can be purchased at the office for $5.00. Sewer connection is at the back of site so a long hose is required. Lots of over the air channels,we lost count after 43. Wifi signal is only strong near the check-in office or the restrooms throughout the park. The other RVers in this loop were very quiet, no barking dogs. There is also a laundromat with vending machines with ice cream and other snacks. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of my favorite places to stay. It's in Denver and surrounded by the city, but there is a lot of open space so it feels like you're far from everything. I really like the Coyote Loop, and there are lots of good sites to stay on the edges. Sites are level and fairly large, with lots of room in between them. Because it's in town, cell service is excellent and there is a lot to do in the area. Of course, the reservoir is really nice, and there are lots of walking trails, so you can stay in the park and still have a great time. We camped at Cherry Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed here in February, campground was full! Very nice, new facilities. Beware, restrooms are only open from 7 am to 8 pm during the winter. Lots of open space and hiking trails. Saw four coyotes and a bald eagle on our second day, which is kind of weird in an area surrounded by freeways. Make sure you ask for the WiFi password when you enter at the gate.
