We had a very nice lakeside spot with covered picnic table. Fishing was great. Easy access to Grand Mesa. However, the bathrooms were run down and nasty. Showers were disgusting. They were pay showers that liked to take your money. Camp hosts were grumpy. You would think a place without full hook-ups would try to keep the bathrooms in good repair. We were saddened because Colorado State Parks are usually our favorites to stay in. Bring your bird feeders. There are millions of hummingbirds here. We camped at Vega State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

What a beautiful place, it ranks in my top 5 now! With lots of wildlife around, the lakes and the mountains, it is very picturesque. You can see the lake from most sites, as the CG sits up on a small rise above it. Another camper might obscure part of your view but it's still very nice. The fishing is very good here too. There's easy access to the water with a road that goes all the way around, and there are several boat ramps also. With no sewer we had to watch our black tank closely, but the bathrooms are nice if you need them. We saw some awesome sunrises over the lake, as well as plenty of wildlife, including bald eagles. Also, it's amazing how many hummingbirds there are here at this time of year. Bring your feeder and you'll enjoy the show! This park is pretty remote so hit the grocery store before you come, and stock up. It's 30 minutes just to Collbran because the roads are winding and hilly. But it is a really nice little town, though limited on selection. Nearby Grand Mesa is enough reason to come to Vega by itself. It's really beautiful all over the Mesa, with numerous lakes, streams, trails and other points of interest. Vega Lodge, opposite the CG, has a good little restaurant. We ate there several times and had good meals each time. And it overlooks the lake so you'll enjoy a stop there I'm sure. The only negatives are there are lots of chipmunks, some of whom like to explore the inside of your home, and there seems to be a lot of fast drivers going through the CG. Could the rangers do something about the latter? I don't know. We were at the bottom of a hill so maybe folks were just letting it "get away" from them a little bit. But watch your kids and pets. Otherwise I'd say it was a perfect trip for us. We camped at Vega State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

This is a large, nice state park at 8,000' elevation. It has nice scenery and a large lake. We stayed is Aspen Grove campground which doesn't have hookups. Aspen sites 209-227 aren't good for an RV over 35'. There are too many untrimmed trees and bushes at the edge of the driveways and at the corners and the road is narrow for turns into the sites. Aspen sites #201-208 are very open, with shelters, and are good for 40' RVs. Early Settler campground has water and electric hookups and the sites are good for a 40' RV. They have a higher fee. They are very open. There is no cell service here. The bathrooms, including the vault toilets were clean. There is a dump station. You cannot ride your OHV in the park but there is a staging area by the Visitor Center for parking and easy access to the Grand Mesa National Forest. We camped at Vega State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

There are 4 campgrounds at Vega. We stayed in Early Settlers where there is water and power. The campground has beautiful views of the reservoir and mountains. Our site wasn’t level but we had no problems leveling out. There is no Verizon cell or air card service here, but nothing in the way to hinder a satellite signal. Water pressure was at 45 psi (using our pressure regulator) and had good steady electric. The power at each site is 30/50 amp. Picnic table and fire ring were in great condition and looked fairly new. There is a playground for kids at the beginning of the campground next to the shower/bathrooms. We took the forest service road up towards Grand Mesa but the road was in terrible condition and turned around. We were in our 4X4 and just didn’t feel like trashing it and the farther in we got the worse the road became. There are lots of areas to shore fish around the reservoir and places to picnic. We noticed a lodge on the other side of the reservoir that has a restaurant and an RV park. Midweek we noticed the campgrounds were not full but by the weekend our campground was full and campers headed over to the other campgrounds. Early Settlers Campground is on the reservation system and I don’t think there are any first come sites. The dump station is large with plenty of room to maneuver in and out even when towing a car. There is NO drinking water at the dump but water can be found in the campgrounds. We would stay here again. We camped at Vega State Park in a Motorhome.Undo

This is a nice peaceful place. It is pretty far off the beaten path. There are a couple of convenience stores, gas and a restaurant in Collban. At one time these services were available in the park but that operation has closed. It is 12 miles to Collban and 65 miles to Grand Mesa if you use paved roads. We used the dirt road to Grand Mesa. It was good and half the distance. Fishing is the main attraction at Vega. There is lots of hiking as well as fishing on Grand Mesa. We spent 3 days and really enjoyed ourselves. It is a great get away at a good price if you enjoy the outdoors. The park is too far for an over night stop from I-70. The drive is beautiful but it is a good hour drive from the interstate. We camped at Vega State Park in a Travel Trailer.Undo
