We loved this state park. We had a beautiful view of Colorado Springs below, and the best part was having a view of all the July 4th fireworks going on around the city during the holiday weekend. Our site was spacious and had some privacy. There are many hiking and biking trails all through the park which were very nice. Verizon 4G coverage there was good. The only reason I knock off any stars for this and every other CO state park is because of the ridiculous $10 reservation fee and the fact that you have to pay the $7/day park entrance fee on top of the campground fee. We travel full-time and this is the only state so far that we have been to that makes you pay an entrance fee in addition to the campground fee. Since we are traveling around Colorado for a couple of months it made sense for us to buy the CO state parks annual pass for $70, but it makes staying at CO state parks a lot more expensive than other states. We are from Florida, and FL state parks do NOT make you pay the entrance fee on top of the campground fee to camp there. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is an absolutely first-rate park, that lives up to its high reviews. We stayed three nights in site #10 with full hook-ups. The park is right off CO-115, with easy access north into Colorado Springs and all that it offers.

This park opened in 2006 so all of the facilities are brand new. There are restrooms in the camping loops and then pay showers, a laundromat, and a small store with ice, souvenirs, etc. at the nearby Camper Services Center. There are about a dozen trails all around the park with nice views and excellent chances to see wildlife.

The sites are carved into the side of Cheyenne Mountain which provides views overlooking Colorado Springs and Fort Carson. We had full LTE cell reception and clear skies for the satellite. However, there is no shade at all.

Please note that in addition to the nightly rate, there is a $10 online reservation fee and a $7/day vehicle fee. Reservations well in advance are highly recommended.

This is one of the best parks we've ever stayed at. It is an excellent base camp for exploring Colorado Springs. We would definitely return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the US Olympic Training Center and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Both are within 30 mins of the park. About an hour southwest in Canon City is the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, which is a great day trip.

This is our first visit and I hope many more. We loved this park. Large camp spaces, great fire pit and picnic tables and beautiful views. Shower and laundry very clean. You will need quarters for the showers. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great location above the madding crowd. Great hiking trails, we even saw a 2" diamondback rattlesnake. In the morning reveille is played at Ft Carson and taps in the evening. Our site was about 100 ft from the NORAD perimeter fencing. Morning and evenings lots of wildlife came to visit. Unfortunately, due to a fast moving snowstorm forecast to pummel the area we chose to leave a day early. I would not hesitate to return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is our second stay 2009 was our previous visit. We love the campground, located on the east slope of Cheyenne Mountain overlooking Colorado Springs. The Fort Carson gate is directly across the street from the entrance. The park's reservation policy left several sites unoccupied though reserved. Several campers were turned away due to a full campground. The shower in our loop was fee based, $1.00 (quarters) for 4 minutes of ice cold water, this was our only disappointment. We arrived early with no reservation and got a site. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

See our previous review October, 2015, for full rate explanation. This Colorado State Park fills up months in advance so bite the bullet and go to the park web site as soon as you know when you will be staying here and pay the $10 to make a reservation if a site is available. Many of the sites are crescent type pull throughs, the rest being backin's. The park is fully paved with all sites fully concrete. The utilities connections were well planned out, concrete basins for sewer connections to prevent any spills from escaping, potable water source well separated from sewer, etc. Other RV parks could learn a lot about how to do this properly from this park. The park sites on the side of Chyenne Mountain (NORAD buried deeply in the bowels of the mountain) about 500 feet elevation above Colorado Springs to the north east. The views at night are breath taking. Some mornings you may be able to hear reveille from Ft. Carson which is located near the entry to the park. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful setting against Cheyenne Mountain. Unusual for a state park to have full hook-ups so we definitely decided to stay here. Large cemented site with a fire ring, tent pad, and a picnic table. Lots of hiking trails through the mountain. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The rate is $24/day camping fee plus $7/day park access fee for a total per day cost of $31. In addition, if you make reservations on-line there is an additional reservation fee of $10 for each reservation. This is one of the nicest State Parks we have ever stayed at anywhere! All park roads are paved, and each site has a concrete parking area. The views of Colorado Springs from all of the camping sites at night are breathtaking. There is a very nice and clean restroom/shower building in each of the four camping loops, and the main building in the center of the campground includes a very nice laundry and small store. There are few trees so if you're looking for a lot of shade this park is not for you. Satellite and AT&T and Verizon service are good throughout the park. This is our campground of choice whenever in this area. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be aware that just after you turn off highway 115 into the park, there is a traffic circle that is quite tight for a big rig but easily doable if you're prepared for it. There is no apparent reason for this traffic circle as the only traffic through the circle is into and out of the park.

This park was beautiful! Easy access from SR115 in Colorado Springs. Excellent base for seeing Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods. Pull through site was concrete pad. We stayed in site 2 and had a great view of Colorado Springs lights at night. Beautiful sunrise and could hear reveille from the near by base at Fort Carson. Price included the $7/day entry fee. Excellent state park that is our first choice for a stay in the Colorado Springs area. Beautiful views in all directions. Easy access to and in the park with our larger sized 40'+ Big Rig RV. Good Verizon LTE service but AT&T voice and data sporadic at best. Quiet at night. Only two issues keep this from being perfect; (1) pay showers ($1 for 4 min) and (2) it's booked full on weekends well in advance so it's tough to stay long enough to amortize the $10 reservation fee to lower the nightly rate. Our rate for two nights was $28 per night + $7 per day access / vehicle fee, and $10 reservation fee. We would certainly return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great park. Very pretty view and sites are spacious. However, the rate was $28.00 a day PLUS $7 a day for entrance into the park. There is also a $2.00 charge to take a shower. There is also a $10 booking fee. The showers were clean. They have a nice laundry which was clean. They have a good play area for kids and plenty of roads/trails if you want to get out and walk. Convenient to everything to do in Colorado Springs. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
