This was a beautiful campground overlooking Colorado Springs. Very scenic view from our camp site. Stayed for a couple of nights while passing through would have stayed longer but the snow came and pushed us South! We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is totally a big rig friendly state park. The reservation system was a little confusing. One of the nicest state park campgrounds we've ever seen. We camped in October mid week and the campground was full every night. Plenty of spaces for a large RV. Beautiful view out the window, one side the valley and the other side, the mountains. Suggest you make a reservation if you can. We would come back!!! We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Park opened in 2000 and has great hookups and buildings.
We loved the back in site #6 at the top tier of camping loops.
Tight turn as you enter the park southbound from 115.
Some of the hiking trails do not have shade and some do-- so staff at visitor center can advise. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is my second stay in this park. Sittings in foothills at the base of Cheyenne Mountain. Spectacular view of south Colorado Springs. Facilities are excellent. Check in can be confusing, but if in doubt buy a daily use pass for $7 at self-serve station then drive on up to camping services building and get it all sorted out there.

This park has beautiful RV sites and also very nice tent sites. Pad was cement and site included patio, picnic table, and fire pit. Firewood available at park.

I won't repeat the many comments about the beauty of the area. I do want to mention that mountainside views can also provide mountainside winds; we experienced 40 to 50 mph gusts one night when nearby stations were reporting 15mph.

To my recollection park is 2200 acres with picnic areas, a group pavilion is available, and plenty of hiking trails. The downside is the number of spaces is limited and this park is in high demand all summer. We stayed in 2 spaces to stay 3 nights. Verizion 4G was fine. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

One of the nicest parks we have ever stayed at! The park is just below Cheyenne Mountain and many of the sites have a beautiful view of Colorado Springs and/or Fort Carson. We even heard taps and reveille from the fort each day. The sites have a concrete pad as well as a tent pad and a gravel picnic area. All of the utilities are in great shape. Lots of trails within the park. Decent Verizon and ATT signals. They do charge a daily fee along with the camping fee but if you are going to be staying in Colorado State Parks enough to make it worthwhile, you can purchase an annual pass so you don't have to pay the daily fee. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Plenty to do just in Cheyenne Mountain State Park, itself, if you love to hike or mountain bike. The Colorado Springs area has many, many attractions including Pikes Peak, Seven Falls, Cave of the Winds, Casinos at Cripple Creek (about 50 miles west). The incline rail is a good way to go to Pike's Peak, but sit on the 3 seat side of the car for best photo opportunities. Manitou Springs, Woodland Park are beautiful.

We loved this state park. We had a beautiful view of Colorado Springs below, and the best part was having a view of all the July 4th fireworks going on around the city during the holiday weekend. Our site was spacious and had some privacy. There are many hiking and biking trails all through the park which were very nice. Verizon 4G coverage there was good. The only reason I knock off any stars for this and every other CO state park is because of the ridiculous $10 reservation fee and the fact that you have to pay the $7/day park entrance fee on top of the campground fee. We travel full-time and this is the only state so far that we have been to that makes you pay an entrance fee in addition to the campground fee. Since we are traveling around Colorado for a couple of months it made sense for us to buy the CO state parks annual pass for $70, but it makes staying at CO state parks a lot more expensive than other states. We are from Florida, and FL state parks do NOT make you pay the entrance fee on top of the campground fee to camp there. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an absolutely first-rate park, that lives up to its high reviews. We stayed three nights in site #10 with full hook-ups. The park is right off CO-115, with easy access north into Colorado Springs and all that it offers.

This park opened in 2006 so all of the facilities are brand new. There are restrooms in the camping loops and then pay showers, a laundromat, and a small store with ice, souvenirs, etc. at the nearby Camper Services Center. There are about a dozen trails all around the park with nice views and excellent chances to see wildlife.

The sites are carved into the side of Cheyenne Mountain which provides views overlooking Colorado Springs and Fort Carson. We had full LTE cell reception and clear skies for the satellite. However, there is no shade at all.

Please note that in addition to the nightly rate, there is a $10 online reservation fee and a $7/day vehicle fee. Reservations well in advance are highly recommended.

This is one of the best parks we've ever stayed at. It is an excellent base camp for exploring Colorado Springs. We would definitely return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great park and a great value for your money. Big thing is to remember that you will be charged a $7 per day (expires at 12 pm the next day) fee to use the park, make sure you pay at the visitors center or, if after hours, use the self pay station. Pads were concrete and level, all hookups were easy, and the picnic area and fire pit were great. We had a wonderful view of Colorado Springs and it was very easy to get on and off I-25 to all the attractions northwest of the city (Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, and Pikes Peak Cog Railway were all only about 20 minutes away). AT&T signal was strong. If you have a dog that you like to take on hikes be aware that they are not allowed on trails, kind of a bummer but the other benefits of this park outweighed this negative. Don't be nervous about the bear and other wildlife signs, just be smart with your food and all will be just fine, we had zero issues. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of the many state parks in Colorado and relatively new. All sites are large paved with complete hook-ups, fire pit/grill, additional outside water, metal rubber coated picnic tables/benches. Situated on Cheyenne Mountain with magnificent views of the Colorado Springs area...especially at night. Abundance of wildlife, walking/hiking trails. Numerous bathroom facilities which are very clean and well maintained. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Multiple area attractions within short driving distance. Safeway grocery and strip mall within a very short drive of the park as well.

Pets are welcome, however; as in all state parks they must be kept on a 6' leash, cleaned up after and are not permitted on hiking trails.

Great location above the madding crowd. Great hiking trails, we even saw a 2" diamondback rattlesnake. In the morning reveille is played at Ft Carson and taps in the evening. Our site was about 100 ft from the NORAD perimeter fencing. Morning and evenings lots of wildlife came to visit. Unfortunately, due to a fast moving snowstorm forecast to pummel the area we chose to leave a day early. I would not hesitate to return. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is our second stay 2009 was our previous visit. We love the campground, located on the east slope of Cheyenne Mountain overlooking Colorado Springs. The Fort Carson gate is directly across the street from the entrance. The park's reservation policy left several sites unoccupied though reserved. Several campers were turned away due to a full campground. The shower in our loop was fee based, $1.00 (quarters) for 4 minutes of ice cold water, this was our only disappointment. We arrived early with no reservation and got a site. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

See our previous review October, 2015, for full rate explanation. This Colorado State Park fills up months in advance so bite the bullet and go to the park web site as soon as you know when you will be staying here and pay the $10 to make a reservation if a site is available. Many of the sites are crescent type pull throughs, the rest being backin's. The park is fully paved with all sites fully concrete. The utilities connections were well planned out, concrete basins for sewer connections to prevent any spills from escaping, potable water source well separated from sewer, etc. Other RV parks could learn a lot about how to do this properly from this park. The park sites on the side of Chyenne Mountain (NORAD buried deeply in the bowels of the mountain) about 500 feet elevation above Colorado Springs to the north east. The views at night are breath taking. Some mornings you may be able to hear reveille from Ft. Carson which is located near the entry to the park. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.
