Small, crowded park. Had to move the picnic table off my site because there was no room for it once I parked. The individual in the rig next to mine was smoking in his rig with the windows open, and I had to close all my windows on that side because we were so close. All back-ins, some with tricky angles. Not much in the way of amenities. That being said, the customer service was outstanding and the wifi much better than at most parks. No o/a tv. Not the greatest value, but seems to be the best value in Cortez anyway. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great little park to use as home base for day trips. Owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. We took in all the sites she directed us to, and have tons of great pictures! Park has clean restrooms, showers and a washer & dryer. Bonus - the WiFi was excellent. I would say this park has everything you need and if by chance you forgot something - it is close to town. We even had great pedicures at Pro Nails in town. We'll be back!! We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Motorhome.

Passport America members pay $20, so the value is fairly good. However, sometimes only certain sites are available with the discount. Ours was a back-in near a noisy car wash, and next to a not so neat permanent trailer. It is well worth the stay, however, for all that Cortez area offers. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Motorhome.

It is right on Hwy 190 but there was very little road noise. The park has 35 sites and is all gravel. Roads are easy to navigate. Ours was a pull through with full hook-ups, fairly long, level and plenty wide The laundry room has one washer and one dryer, so our laundry was done in town. Not a lot of places to walk the dog so we went off site. The WiFi was good and our Verizon signal was good. We stayed July 21-28, 2017 and paid $29.54 a night with our Good Sam discount. One of the best things of this stay was when the camp hosts came out of the office and sang Happy Birthday to me after a friend called for a recommendation for a florist. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Motorhome.

Small park gravel sites. People in office very nice and helpful. Close to shops, restaurants and national park. Pull through sites and back in, only bad thing is that behind the back ins is a car wash and can be very load and constant even at night and early morning. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Truck Camper.

As other reviews have stated, this is a small park (30+ sites) on the west side of Cortez. We had site 32 which is a great pull-thru with plenty of room on both sides and a large shade tree (careful pulling out). The site was level with good electric. There are what appear to be some full time sites, but the park is quiet and well maintained and it's access to Mesa Verde NP can't be beat. Cash or Check only, no CC. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Motorhome.

Smaller RV Park on the outer side of Cortez. Check in was pleasant. The park is a gravelled lot, demarked by a central grass strip. Sites to the left are back Ins, on the right are pull throughs. Our site had a few trees to negotiate but had enough room. I needed two Lego blocks to be level. Utilities were fine. The park is nothing special, really, but ok for a few nights. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The Anasazi Cultural Center (8 miles) features a small interesting Museum and the ruins of Pueblo Escalante. A short paved 1/2 mile walk up a gentle slope leads to the Pueblo, with nice views of Mesa Verde NP and Lake McPhee.

Park is a small park but clean and pretty quiet. Pull thru and back in sites. We had a back in with plenty of room and satellite. We stayed a week so we couldn't have a pull thru. No problem. Would stay again. The only thing I didn't like were the hookups unground and hard to get to. I think it was the only site like that. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Originally planned to stay a couple days, but extended to a week and are so glad we did. We just really loved this park. It was much less crowded than the other one we drove by almost every day in town. RV site was spacious. We fit our 40' fifth wheel, dually truck, small SUV, 10x7 flatbed trailer and two motorcycles...comfortably on one site. With room to spare to hang out outside. We never felt like we were "on top of" our neighbors either. We were in a pull-thru in the "we don't need satellite" sites, which meant we had two lovely, tall trees at the front area of the site. Getting in and out of the entrance and our RV site was not a problem for us. Site was dirt/rock, but we didn't track in much dust into the RV. Hookups where they needed to be and worked fine. The family that runs this place is very nice. The owner's daughter was running the office most days and I saw her cleaning the restrooms/laundry every day too. They allowed us to receive some packages here which was super helpful. There wasn't a mountain outside our back window but just step outside or look another way and you'll see them! Even though it was along the highway, we didn't notice much road noise. The only negative (that the RV park can't help) is the lights from the gas station next door - very bright at night and they did a loud hum-thing often. Little grassy area for tenters and to walk your dog if you have one. Wifi worked for surfing and email; didn't test video streaming. Good AT&T service. This time of year was mostly overnighters, but usually not more than 10ish rigs around. Peaceful park in a quaint town with so much beautiful land to explore. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Cortez is great! Convenient Walmart and many other small shops. Lots of restaurants to choose from. The Farm Bistro was AMAZING. Stonefish sushi and Loungin' Lizard were pretty tasty. Our only negative experience in the whole town was the Main Street Brewery. Drive east to Durango for even more touristy-town goodness. Mesa Verde NP and Canyon of Ancients have great driving/easy hikes to see cool, historic stuff.

We needed a place to overnight while passing through the area. We came in late, had to call the owner on the phone and wait for them to arrive in a bout 15 minutes. Very helpful once they were there in getting us settled in. The went above and beyond to make sure we had a water source for the night and took some extra time to set up for the expected overnight freezing temps to insure there would be no problems. Would definitely stop in again if in the area. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Easy Access to the RV Park. Some sites are back-in, others are drive through. All have plenty of space, gravel surface, easy to reach utilities (including CTV). Payment is cash or check. Plenty of trees, lots of falling leaves. Owners are very knowledgeable of the area, Hovenweep, Mesa Verde, Canyons of the Ancients, lots to see and do. Although the CG is on the main highway there is very little noise to deal with. Fuel and car wash next door. Sites are mostly pretty level. The park was remodeled about 4 years ago and all upgraded then. We enjoyed our stay here and would return when in the area. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The last walking tours of the cliff dwellings this season were 10-29. When in season there is a fee/reservation system to deal with but the tours are guided by knowledgeable NPS Rangers, either Balcony House or Cliff Castle. Must see Canyon of the Ancients, Yucca House, Anasazi Cultural Center. Enough to do to keep you busy for several days. Safeway and City Market, Walmart and lots of local merchants. Great place to eat is J-Fargo about 1.5 miles from the CG.

This is definitely our type of park; wide, clean, level sites with full hook-ups including cable TV and excellent wi-fi for a reasonable price. The staff was very helpful and cooperative when we had to keep extending our stay due to a couple of very sick dogs. The roads and sites are gravel but well-maintained. There was no room to park our tow vehicle in front of the camper but plenty of room beside it. It is right at the edge of town, only minutes away from many restaurants and shopping. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
