Nice USFS campground. Camp host Lou was wonderful. We camped here for 5 nights here right on the Rio Grande river. No hook-ups but you can dump and fill water tanks for a small donation at the Mineral County Sanitation location in Creede, 6 miles down the road on Colorado Highway 149. The best riverside sites are 4 5, 6, and 10. Quite location off the highway and down a short hill to the river. Only drawback on this campground is there is no water and you must bring your own. We camped at Marshall Park (NFS) in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

The rate reflects a 50% Senior Pass discount. This is a small campground on Highway 149 along the Rio Grande River about 7 miles west of Creede. It is slightly below the highway, so that with the sound of the river, traffic sounds are not objectionable. Most of the sites are reservable; we arrived early in the day and were able to secure a first-come site, but I wouldn't depend on it. Be aware that the campground entrance has changed so that your GPS might guide you to the wrong entrance road. The entrance is now just after you cross the Rio Grande coming from Creede. The campground does not have a dump station and, during our visit, had no water. You can take care of these needs in Creede at a city-provided dump and water fill just west of the Creede Visitor Center. (Donation of $5 requested.) There are few trees for shade, but the campground is at around 8,800 feet, so stays fairly cool even in the middle of summer. We had no problem getting DirecTV. There was only a very weak Verizon signal. With our booster, we did get 3G and very, very slow internet. There is a camp host. Her young son was very helpful in finding a spot for us. We camped at Marshall Park (NFS) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The location makes a good base for visiting the old mining town of Creede where there is shopping and restaurants. The Visitor Center there is great to help give information and plan any trips in the area. If continuing on to Lake City be aware that the highway into Lake City is very steep at 9.5 percent grade, so use caution.
