We've stayed in the park 3 years in a row. Love the "big rig" sites, even though they're a little more expensive. Nice sized grassy site. Only problem is that the rigs are parked in opposite directions, which makes the utilities side quite close. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nice pull thru with good cable tv and fair WIFI (worked pretty well except in periods of high demand). The office people were friendly and the pizza made to your order was perfect after the train ride. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Motorhome.

The Silverton train was outstanding. We had an excellent dinner at Eolus Bar and Dining upstairs with a view of the mountains. The seafood stew was especially good.

First the positives: The park is located in a beautiful area of the Animas valley north of Durango. It is convenient to both Durango and Silverton. Sites are gravel and level. Now the negatives: most if not all of the pull through sites are a nose to tail arrangement. You face one way your neighbor faces the other and the hookups for both rigs are in the middle. This places both units very close to each other. So close that when inside my rig, I could hear a person inside the next rig coughing and their TV playing. Camper's dogs barked all day. People wandered around the park talking and laughing well past "quiet" hour. I did not find this to be a quiet park at all. The wifi is very sporatic, the park's solution was to hand you a handout upon check in stating not to count on the wifi. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

What a gem this park is! The location is great for Durango/Four Corners area attractions. The setting is scenic. The service is friendly. The grounds are immaculate. The bathhouse is clean and updated. Hot breakfast available. Great homemade pizza available. Wish we could have stay longer. We will be back. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Durango-Silverton railroad is a must. Consider riding train one way and bus the other. Train ride both ways takes a little longer and can be a little tiring.

Overall this is a nice RV park, but it's really two different areas. The front (newer) half is for the big rigs. They have lots of space but with less shade. The back half (adjacent and behind the office) is older with many big trees but it's much more crowded and several of the sites are not very level. We made it work but only with a 1ft block under the front. Parking for tow vehicles for some sites is not adjacent, and many sites opened up to each other so we were eye-to-eye with our neighbors. My recommendation is if want the shade try and get a site around the perimeter and not in the center, or stay out front in the big rig area. The amenities were nice, clean showers and restrooms, staff was helpful, wifi was slow but Verizon LTE worked well. Overall we would stay here again, if we could pick a space around the edge of the park. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Highly recommend this campground, very organized and friendly staff, large dog park, breakfast and pizza cooked in campground, grounds and sites all well maintained, clean laundry facility with a number of washer and dryers. Just a good place to stay for five days. We were with friends and our site's layout allowed us to face each other which was great! We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Alpine rose campground First the pros: The grounds looked well kept and clean. That is it for the pros. Now the Cons: 1We made reservations in April for a shady, level site. When we arrived our site was shady (but not where you had to park the RV) and not anything close to level. Though other sites appeared to be more level. The management comment was..."the campground is on the side of a mountain" 2. Site was basically unusable. No where level and in fact I not get level. That was just front to back. The pitch of the site we did not even get to. 3. Utilities (water, electric) are shared between sites and the sewer was so far away I would need a 20 ft run. Plus it was all uphill. Sorry but empting you tanks uphill does not work 4. With the units coming into sites in opposite directions (because of the Utilities) you shared a common space between rigs and a "community dining area). 5. The staff was pretty useless as well and told us "the site is fine). 6. They also advertise wi-fi...don't believe it. 7. So we made arrangements at another resort and left. We were told we were going to be charged one night stay and a cancellation fee. What ????? For a site we could not use???? Nor could anyone else. It was not what we were led to believe we had reserved. I would not stay here again. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to stay. We stayed in one of the premium sites so we had plenty of room. Some of the regular sites looked very close together. It is a beautiful spot and very nice staff. The all you can eat breakfast is good and ready early! We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a destination stay....visited the park for a week. If you are visiting the Durango area, I would HIGHLY recommend this park. The grounds were immaculate, the pull-through and big rig sites were beautiful. If you stay elsewhere while in Durango, you made a mistake! We've stayed at some really high dollar Class A-only resorts and I think I would pick this one for quiet and relaxation. Plus, my dogs would rate it VERY high! Pro's: Plenty of shade and trees. Definitely a dog park. Very nice fenced in dog area. Very nice laundry and bathrooms. Very nice people and staff! Some of the best hand-made pizza I've ever had! You've got to try the pizza. Oh, the free popcorn is great too! Cons: While it is a park that has a lot of dogs, dogs are not allowed in any buildings or even on the patio or front porch?! Don't believe for a second that they have usable WiFi. It's simply not true. The only place WiFi if usable is on their front porch. And, they do have a pool, but it is tiny! And, they have no lounge chairs and only a total of 3 plastic chairs that are bolted down to the floor?! Over a 4 day period, I think I'm the only person who used the pool. They only have one dumpster for the whole park and it's pretty far away from most of the sites. (Good exercise, I guess.) Lastly, this park is pretty far outside of Durango. If you don't have a car or some type of vehicle, you're stuck. There are no real options for getting into town. We camped at Alpen Rose RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great RV park if you book the pull throughs or big rig sites. We were in the pull throughs and they were great. However, the other rigs are VERY close to you. I booked a site on the end of a row so we only had one person to our west. When I walked our dog through the park, I am not sure I would want to stay in the back-in sites. It doesn't appear the back-in area is as well kept as the pull through and big rig sites. The dog park is 2 acres, which you cannot beat. Our dog loved it. Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to go to Derailed Pourhouse in downtown Durango. It was a great meal and atmosphere. If you like breweries, go to Durango Brewing company for beer only - their food was not ideal. We did the Durango-Silverton train and it is a must do. However, I would recommend the train to Silverton and the bus back to Durango. We were on the train for 8 hours (3.5 hours to Silverton and 4.5 hours back to Durango). It made for a long day.

This is a nice park in a good location, The staff are friendly and helpful. The water pressure is good. Wi-Fi generally is good. The cable TV - not so much. There are only 12 channels. Overall opinion is good - but it is pricey. Especially given that they are already in "Season shut down" mode and some of the amenities are not available.
