This park is quiet and convenient to town, with giant shade trees and a heated pool. We enjoyed our time here, and will stay here again. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Fifth Wheel.

We are here to ride the narrow gauge railroad from Durango to Silverton. We have stayed in this campground twice before ('95 and '10) and found it quite acceptable so we are back again. One of the attractions for us is that the train actually goes right through the campground. In addition, there is a shuttle that picks up right in front of the campground and drops us off right at the train. No worries with parking. The campground is "close" but accessible for even big rigs. We're -37 feet long and had no issues. The staff was "efficient".... let me say it that way. In the past, they have been more "engaging" but it was not as problem. Because of the train going RIGHT THROUGH THE CAMPGROUND, I like it alot!! We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Nice clean campground, tight sites and narrow access roads next to a busy highway (US550) offset by the Durango and Silverton tracks running right through the campground. Animas valley is scenic and proximity to town is great. Free Durango Trolly service with a stop nearby. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Travel Trailer.

Our 1st time in Durango. Very happy with the campground and staff. We requested to stay another night and it was no issue. Lots are mostly shady with a gravel surface and included a picnic table.

We would stay here again if in the area. The only downside is that the office is at the top of the hill. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

This park is on a driveway downhill off the main road, but has a big sign so you know where to turn. It slopes down to the railroad tracks that run between the RV spaces and the tent spaces. The Durango & Silverton goes through 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the afternoon on the railroad tracks. The office is at the top, and there is a nice pool next to the office that is open until 8:45 pm. There is a small store next to the office. The internet did not work for us. There were about 6 different possible connections, but it really only worked in the office. Sites were close together. The place was full when we got there - they just had one spot, which they gave to us. We had tried to call to reserve a space, but the person answering the phone asked us to hold while she transacted some business with a customer, then forgot to pick the phone up again. Spaces were close together. There were mature trees every couple of spaces for shade. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed our stay here. The view of the scenery is just beautiful, but our 38' Class A was parked in the row nearest the railroad tracks, the best place to be. Other sites farther back have little in the way of scenery. The sites are a bit on the tight side. Thankfully the travel trailer next to us left just before we did, so we had room to swing our rig out onto the road. Our site HAD a nice big shade tree, but it apparently had been recently trimmed down to next to nothing..so no shade for us. WI-FI was undependable. It sometimes was impossible to get a connection, and other times would be so slow as to be unusable . There is no cable TV, but OTA was good enough . There was a nice glassy area between our campsite and the narrow-gauge railroad tracks, but too many campers are too lazy or uncaring to pick up their dogs' droppings, so they ruin it for everybody else. Quiet hours are supposed to be from 10 PM to 8 AM, but we were awakened every morning at 7 PM by barking dogs. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Close to downtown Durango, gravel spots, good WIFI signal and good utilities. We had a wide spot and close to the train tracks. There are 3 steam trains in the morning and 3 in the evening. Many spots have large trees and cell service is adequate. No campfires are allowed. The park is very quiet and peaceful. We stayed here in a 40 foot motorhome. Nice park. Three of us were in 45' coaches and each our sites were just long enough. Towed parked next to coach. Very tight.

Large tree next to each site which blocked satellite reception. We did get a fair number of OTA stations.

The park is next to the narrow gauge train tracks. Not a problem because the old steam train runs in the late morning and later afternoon. It was fun seeing the Silverton train go by.

Utility hookups were convenient. Sites were quite level.

Office staff (owners) were very courteous and helpful.

We would stay here again. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When in Durango, the train to Silverton is a must. Recommend taking the bus to Silverton, then the train back to Durango. Lots of good restaurants are open for lunch. Also recommend taking the train coach which has the narrator. 3 1/2 hours went very quickly with the excellent guide.

This was our first RV trip as a family and everyone had a blast! The site was very clean and the staff was extremely nice and helpful. They gave us two sites because they were each a touch small. Roads were wide and easy to navigate. Pool was clean and decent size, but we didn't use it. Each RV site appeared to have plenty of room. VERY quiet at night and peaceful.

The Durango-Silverton steam train line runs right through the campground, but the conductors are careful to keep whistle noise to a minimum in the morning (first train comes through at 8:40 am). There is a trolley that picks up for regular stops all the way to downtown. We were not charged when we used it.

Lots of hiking and activities in the area. Durango is a great town with very nice restaurants and friendly people. Train passes right by the bathrooms and laundry facilities. Great picture taking spot! Laundry machines were very reasonably priced and change machine was right there. We will most certainly be back next season! We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We loved the beer and food at Steamworks brewery downtown. Also hiked a few of the trails in the area. Bring water and sunscreen. Appears to be a lot of vegetation, but there isn't enough to provide full shade. If you have a half to full day, take the steam train to Silverton. The ride through the mountains will absolutely take your breath away! A bit pricey, but worth it. If traveling north, make sure you gas up before leaving town. There are only a couple of facilities until Silverton.

As noted by previous reviewers, the sites are tight and challenging to maneuver into. That said, this is a well maintained clean park that we enjoyed staying in. The Silverto-Durango narrow gauge steam train travels through the park to the delight of campers. Pool, laundry and restrooms were clean and well maintained. The biggest attraction for us was the trolley that stops at the entrance of the park every 20 minutes and, for a dollar, will take you to downtown Durango. There are many trolley stops in the city that makes returning easy. When we return to Durango, we will stay here. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

This park consists of gravel sites with some grass and a lot of very, very tall trees. In fact the trees blocked our satellite as well as most of the other campers there. They do NOT have cable. We were able to get a few TV channels over the air. The sites are buddy sites, meaning you will be parked head to tail with a close neighbor on your utility hook-up side and sharing your patio side with another neighbor. It was a little tight, but we were able to park easily with a 42' motor home. We disconnected the towed before going to the site. The narrow gauge train that runs from Durango to Silverton passes through approximately 4 times a day: twice in the morning beginning at 8:20 am and twice later in the afternoon around 5:30 pm. We wished there had been an off leash dog park. The only place to really walk the dogs was near the train tracks. The WiFi was pretty good at our site, but we were parked close to the bath house/laundry where the WiFi antenna was located. We received a 10% discount for paying by check. They seem to prefer that although they will take credit cards as well. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Honeyville is just a few miles north on Hwy. 550 and well worth the visit. The honey is delicious!

The Animas River trail is a great place to take a picnic and watch the rafters float by on the river. It's also a great place to take the dogs for a walk. There is a Farmer's Market in town on Saturdays and a Flea Market at the Fair Grounds on Sundays

Very excellent location. I didn't care for the alternate facing campground causing our patio area to be facing the neighbors patio area, with little privacy and sense of established border. We camped at United Campground of Durango in a Motorhome.
