Site #12 was quite roomy for both tow & motorhome. Full hookups. The water had extreme water pressure, so only filled water tank. Easy access. Very difficult to get reservations more than a couple of days, next to impossible on weekends - as park is reserved out a year in advance. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed five nights. Great RV site. 50' long by 40' wide. Plenty of room to park our fifth wheel, truck, SUV, flatbed trailer and two motorcycles...with space to spare. A nice reprieve from commercial RV parks. There's a campsite fee plus a ($7) day-use fee for each vehicle. This is very OBVIOUS and is listed on the reservation website, in the confirmation email, on the Larimer County's website, and here in the reviews. We paid $14/day on top of the site fee because we have a truck and an SUV. Was a fine price for what we received. Road to the reservoir is nicely paved. Roads in campground area are mostly dirt/gravel. Not super wide but we were able to maneuver our 40' around fine; took a few attempts to get into our site. There are large rocks along the sides of the road to watch out for. Full Hookups were located in reasonable location in the site, and worked as desired. We levelled easily. Our site was in a loop with only about 8 sites, so less traffic coming/going around us was nice. Firepit and picnic table of good quality. They are set out from the main square of your RV site, giving you lots of breathing room. Neighboring sites not close, and there are 6' tall (and growing) trees/bushes in between the sites. From our site we had a couple peeks of the reservoir in-between taller trees that were closer to the water. Very busy on weekends with boaters and day-users coming/going. Quiet at night though. Still quite a bit of light from Ft Collins and the maintenance building so not the best place for stargazing if that's your thing. Many RVs arriving early so it doesn't seem they are strict about arrival time. We also left 20 min after checkout and no one yelled at us-thanks! AT&T service was basically non-existent; 1 bar of 4G in only a few spots in the campground. Very nice campground hosts. They overcharged us on day-use fees, but went up to the Visitor Center and quickly got a refund. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

About an hour to Rocky Mountain National Park. If you're a beer lover, do the New Belgium Brewery tour; it's free but you need to sign up online days in advance. Left Hand Brewery in Longmont also wonderful.

This is our second visit to the beautiful Horsetooth Reservoir. Last year we spent the day here and checked out the campsites for future trips and this year we are thrilled to actually stay here! We were greeted by about 15 deer on our way to this campground. There were also lots of geese, and a variety of birds!

Our campsite was right on the water! It was a large pull-through level gravel site with electricity. We had vault toilets nearby and the campground also has showers. There is a dump station near the entrance and frost-free water spigots are available throughout the campground. The sites are nicely placed, nothing seems too close together. The camp hosts are very friendly and helpful, even way after normal hours (we arrived rather late). You do need a county day pass ($7) in addition to the campground fees. This brings the total to $32, but if you check out RV parks in the Fort Collins area this seems like a good value! We peeked at several of the RV parks and they are pricey, sites close together, and certainly do not have the views like South Bay and Horsetooth Reservoir.

Cell reception: T-Mobile - 4 bars Extended (2G) with .15 Mb download and upload test failed AT&T - 2-3 bars of the HPSA +, but all speed tests failed Verizon - 2 bars LTE with 27 Mb download, 1.4 Mb upload. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We were looking for a place to stay in the general area while visiting friends. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We visited on a weeknight in April. This is a beautiful and well laid out campground. All sites have water views. Many are pull throughs. Most sites are level with a mix of sun and shade. Options are non electric, electric and full hook up. There's no wifi. There's a reasonable Verizon signal and no ATT signal. Our electric site was $27.50 plus a $7 entrance fee. The park host was friendly and helpful. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Talk about a bait and switch swindle. Reserved a full hookup site for 5 days. $30.00 on reserve America. Okay that's pretty good right, Wrong!!! When we arrived we had to pay another $7.00 dollars a day as a parking fee for the MH and Toad. That's $7.00 each or another $14.00 a day.

This for dirt roads and site, lots of dust and idiots driving to fast. Lots of road noise.

It's one our list as a never again park. The county should be ashamed !!!!!! We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Gravel roads and sites are in good shape. Electric was solid. Good satellite reception and OK Verizon 4G signal. Park was fairly quiet during the week. We used this as a base to visit RMNP. Would stay again. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

We chose to reserve ($10 if you call, less if online). For Full Hook Ups (50 amps & good water pressure) it's $30/night plus a vehicle entrance fee of $7/night. Pit toilets. Our site (S-6) was almost level and spacious with a picnic table and fire pit. Nice views of the canyon from our site. We had open skies for TV reception (just young trees planted in our area) and good 4G Verizon service. The interior roads DO have tight turns for bigger rigs. They've built a beautiful new Information Center as you come in. It wasn't open when we were there, but may be when next season starts. They also were just paving the county road (38E) that you use to access this campground. Be sure to turn in when it says Horsetooth Reservoir, South Campground whether or not you have a reservation. Wonderful camp hosts to help you out. The place was pretty quiet, probably because we were there mid September. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We stayed here to visit Rocky Mountain National Park. It was peak foliage season. We also didn't have to drive our rig on Hwy 34 (may be necessary if you camp closer to RMNP), just our car. THAT is a twisty, steep mountain road.

Very popular campground for locals during the weekend so pretty crowded, but clears out nicely on Sunday afternoon. Horsetooth Reservoir is beautiful and the campground has lovely views, even when the water level is low. There was some road noise from County Road 38E, but it wasn't too disturbing. Mostly spacious, pull through sites. Level, dirt pads. The roads are not paved, so lots of dust. We visit Fort Collins a couple times a year, and we have stayed at other private campgrounds in the area. This was our first time staying at Horsetooth South Bay and it fits our style more...more rustic, more space between sites, and more affordable than private campgrounds. The campground fee was $25/day but there was also a $7/day County Park fee, and you need tokens to use the showers, but still quite a bit less than other campgrounds. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wonderful hiking and biking opportunities at Horsetooth Mountain Open Spaces. Trails range from 2.5 mile relatively flat to more challenging. Boating and rock climbing seem popular in this area. Easy access to great restaurants in Fort Collins.

This is a rustic county park and the experience centers on the clear, cold reservoir. We stayed 1 night in site #S71 which is a pull-through electric only site right on the lake. Although we didn't have a water connection, there were spigots available to fill your tanks about every 4 sites and at the dump station. We could enter the water and swim from our site as well as from the adjacent sites.

It is an older park; the semicircular pull-throughs we doable but a little snug for our 31' trailer and truck. There is a new bath house one end of the reservoir which was very clean and had pay showers. The older bathrooms on the loops weren't in great shape. We had no cell reception (AT&T), but the reservoir is hemmed in by the mountains. It is a 15-20 minute drive into Fort Collins.

Please note that in addition to the nightly rate, there is an $8.75 reservation fee and a $7/day vehicle fee. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at the South Bay campground on a company function and really enjoyed our stay. Campsites are quite level, clean and spacious. We were able to park our 32' motorhome and temporarily park 2 other cars at the site. The best part was the campground host. They were extremely helpful in finding reservation information for one of the pavilions and also for one of the boat-in sites (the person who set up the whole company function had no idea where we were supposed to be). The water was very low in preparation for winter runoff, but the lake is large and we had plenty of room to enjoy boating activities. The rangers at the pavilion were very accommodating as well. Rate shown was for campsite and entrance fee for 1 vehicle. Additional entrance fees required for any other vehicles. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

If you have a boat and want some serious privacy, try one of the boat-in campsites for a night. There is another campground at Horsetooth as well called Inlet Bay which has electric-only sites.

This place was just a little weird for us. It is obviously very popular and very heavily used by locals for access to the lake. Tight interior roads for large RV's. We saw several RVs just back up rather than try to make some of the tight turns. Lots of boulders to try and avoid when backing into the site. It was also really noisy. The sites themselves were level and the utilities worked great. Distance between sites was reasonable. The lake was low but there were several jet skis running around constantly. Unfortunately, we were also backed up to the maintenance area which generated it's own noise. And, wow, it's expensive for a reservoir especially with the additional fees per vehicle per day. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Price reflects $30 plus the $7 per day usage fee. We really appreciated the space around our site at his park! The various campgrounds are in different loops with, frankly, different layouts. We were in the first section on a higher level, site S-12. We had tons of space around the RV, picnic table, fire ring, parking, etc. We would definitely recommend it. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Daily fee plus $8 reservation fee and $7 per day access fee. South Bay CG S-loop has 17 full-hookup sites some pull-thru (parallel to the road) and back-in sites. Utilities are well located, all CG interior roads are gravel and sites are gravel with fire-pit and picnic table. Sites are large with room for parking a boat as well as vehicles. Staff was friendly and helpful, checked the sites daily. Reservoir is a busy summer place, boating, fishing and a public swim beach part of the park. We enjoyed our stay here and will return when in the area. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Rocky Mountain National Park loop is a day trip. Start with the 11 mile Old Fall River Road to Alpine Visitor Center and come back on the new road. Take a jacket, elevation is 12,000 feet. The Cache la Poudre River Canyon Scenic Byway, CO-14, follows a wild and scenic river with class 3, 4 & 5 rapids and great scenery.

This county run park is located on the South End of Horsetooth Reservoir just outside of Fort Collins. Stayed a week in a 42 foot 5th wheel on an elevated site with full hook ups. The site was a gravel/dirt pull-thru and had a large patio/fire pit area and a view of the reservoir. There is no cable TV or WiFi, however local channels are available. The per night charge includes a $7.00/day entrance fee to the park. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Great recreation opportunities at the Horsetooth Reservoir with boating, swimming, hiking and mountain biking available. The city of Fort Collins is only a few miles away with excellent shopping and cafes with excellent WiFi. Be prepared when going to the campground/park to go through the city of Ft Collins and to climb up a narrow road to the park.
