This is a rustic county park and the experience centers on the clear, cold reservoir. We stayed 1 night in site #S71 which is a pull-through electric only site right on the lake. Although we didn't have a water connection, there were spigots available to fill your tanks about every 4 sites and at the dump station. We could enter the water and swim from our site as well as from the adjacent sites.

It is an older park; the semicircular pull-throughs we doable but a little snug for our 31' trailer and truck. There is a new bath house one end of the reservoir which was very clean and had pay showers. The older bathrooms on the loops weren't in great shape. We had no cell reception (AT&T), but the reservoir is hemmed in by the mountains. It is a 15-20 minute drive into Fort Collins.

Please note that in addition to the nightly rate, there is an $8.75 reservation fee and a $7/day vehicle fee. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The campground is located at the south en d of the horse tooth reservoir just west of Fort Collins. Interior roads are well groomed gravel and sites are level. There are full hook up sites but we chose an electric only site for our one night stay.

Weekends are busy so book ahead. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The area is great for wildlife viewing, hiking, biking and boating. Nearby Fort Collins is a nice college town with a great, pedestrian only downtown.

We stayed at the South Bay campground on a company function and really enjoyed our stay. Campsites are quite level, clean and spacious. We were able to park our 32' motorhome and temporarily park 2 other cars at the site. The best part was the campground host. They were extremely helpful in finding reservation information for one of the pavilions and also for one of the boat-in sites (the person who set up the whole company function had no idea where we were supposed to be). The water was very low in preparation for winter runoff, but the lake is large and we had plenty of room to enjoy boating activities. The rangers at the pavilion were very accommodating as well. Rate shown was for campsite and entrance fee for 1 vehicle. Additional entrance fees required for any other vehicles. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have a boat and want some serious privacy, try one of the boat-in campsites for a night. There is another campground at Horsetooth as well called Inlet Bay which has electric-only sites.

This place was just a little weird for us. It is obviously very popular and very heavily used by locals for access to the lake. Tight interior roads for large RV's. We saw several RVs just back up rather than try to make some of the tight turns. Lots of boulders to try and avoid when backing into the site. It was also really noisy. The sites themselves were level and the utilities worked great. Distance between sites was reasonable. The lake was low but there were several jet skis running around constantly. Unfortunately, we were also backed up to the maintenance area which generated it's own noise. And, wow, it's expensive for a reservoir especially with the additional fees per vehicle per day. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Price reflects $30 plus the $7 per day usage fee. We really appreciated the space around our site at his park! The various campgrounds are in different loops with, frankly, different layouts. We were in the first section on a higher level, site S-12. We had tons of space around the RV, picnic table, fire ring, parking, etc. We would definitely recommend it. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Daily fee plus $8 reservation fee and $7 per day access fee. South Bay CG S-loop has 17 full-hookup sites some pull-thru (parallel to the road) and back-in sites. Utilities are well located, all CG interior roads are gravel and sites are gravel with fire-pit and picnic table. Sites are large with room for parking a boat as well as vehicles. Staff was friendly and helpful, checked the sites daily. Reservoir is a busy summer place, boating, fishing and a public swim beach part of the park. We enjoyed our stay here and will return when in the area. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Rocky Mountain National Park loop is a day trip. Start with the 11 mile Old Fall River Road to Alpine Visitor Center and come back on the new road. Take a jacket, elevation is 12,000 feet. The Cache la Poudre River Canyon Scenic Byway, CO-14, follows a wild and scenic river with class 3, 4 & 5 rapids and great scenery.

This county run park is located on the South End of Horsetooth Reservoir just outside of Fort Collins. Stayed a week in a 42 foot 5th wheel on an elevated site with full hook ups. The site was a gravel/dirt pull-thru and had a large patio/fire pit area and a view of the reservoir. There is no cable TV or WiFi, however local channels are available. The per night charge includes a $7.00/day entrance fee to the park. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Great recreation opportunities at the Horsetooth Reservoir with boating, swimming, hiking and mountain biking available. The city of Fort Collins is only a few miles away with excellent shopping and cafes with excellent WiFi. Be prepared when going to the campground/park to go through the city of Ft Collins and to climb up a narrow road to the park.

Nice camping along the Lake. Can get smoky due to campfires at all the sites. Campsites are very roomy; we had a nice shady one for late afternoon. Can be noisy at times due to traffic above you on the highway and the campground has a lot of families using the lake. We will stay here again, but we object to paying a day fee of $7 on top of the camping fee, then pay $2 for showers on top of that. Water is not available at each site and if you are in the sites further away from the water it will be about 1/4 mile away. Full hookup sites are $5 a night more but you don't have the shower fee and not much shade yet. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

It's a nice campground. If you park on the side with the lake, people constantly cut through your site. The marina "renters/owners" that have slips on the lake are extremely rude! We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

A white knuckle challenge to get to! DO NOT let your GPS send you down CO RD 23!!! The park has full, elec/water, & elec only sites. Most are pull through. Very pretty. We'll stay here again. Some may find the separate $7/day vehicle pass excessive, but you still can't find a cheaper park in Ft. Collins. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park, not much shade, lots of wind. A little out of the way to visit the mountains and mountain villages. Hard to pick up cell and Wi-Fi service. Real nice lake with views and wildlife. We would stay again. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wow, came into the park from the Bellvue side. I kept thinking I need to find a place to turn around and get out of there, narrow and steep roads. I am glad we did not find a turn around spot, because the park is beautiful. Campground host was really nice and very helpful. Interior roads were gravel, site was a nice pull through, fairly level with shade. We had a good view of the lake. We would stay here again. Very nice campground with several sites right on the lake. Hiking trails through the reservoir. Because we were there mid-week in October, we pretty much had the whole campground to ourselves. It can be full during the weekend. You do have to pay a $7/day usage for the county park. Some of the full hookups when not very level. The price reflects electric only with off season discount. Estes Park and Rocky National Park is only 35 miles away. If in the area, we will definitely use this campground again. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall this is a very nice campground and we think one of the best in the area, even considering a few glitches. We were in S10 with 50 amp and water, we had shade in the morning. Sites S5-12 are full hook up, but no trees. The reservoir level is down, but a water view was not important. We were able to get satellite through the trees, and Verizon cell and MiFi was good. Reservations are made on the internet, so you choose your site on a map with length descriptions, etc. No one was ever at the entrance and we talked to several rangers, who were driving around, about the park fee but no one ever had any. A $35 annual fee pass is available, for seniors, if they have them. Showers are $2 for 6 minutes and another $1 token for an additional 3 minutes. You must know if you want 6 or 9 minutes before the shower quits. It takes a few minutes to get hot water and figure out the direction of the handle. The shower building is nice, but it was not cleaned or swept in the 10 days we were there. Lots of bugs in that building and the free standing toilets. The weekends are very busy. We drove on Hwy 27 up to Hwy 14, and enjoyed several hiking trails, as well as close proximity to restaurants, groceries and laundromats. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Great campground with plenty to do in the area (hiking, boating, fishing, swimming). We had a great view of the lake and hills with plenty of trees and a mostly level spot. Unlike Inlet Bay, which we liked but felt cramped by all the homes in the area, this feels more like camping. We had a decent 3G signal (Verizon) and a couple channels over the antenna. We camped at Horsetooth Reservoir, South Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.
