We found this to be a nice, attractive campground, but then again we like wooded/natural settings more than rows of concrete. We only had a 30-amp connection, but while it was hot in Denver, this park is 2,000 feet higher and the air was cool enough that we didn't need our air conditioners. We had no sewer connection, but since we were only there two nights it wasn't a problem. It's very surprising that guests need to pay to use the dump station. Our electric and water hookups were on the wrong side, so we had to run the wire and hose under the coach, right to the middle of our camping area. The RV sites are a little closer together than we'd normally find in a public park. Our site #9 was pretty unlevel for our motorhome (low in back), but a shorter RV probably wouldn't have as much issue with the slope. AT&T had 2 bars of LTE and decent speeds, Verizon had 2 bars of LTE and was pretty slow. We didn't bother trying our cell booster. The interstate noise was noticeable when we were outside but it wasn't a bother. There's a trail right out from the campground, and a 1.5+ mile dirt road loop around Genesee Park which was great for our dog walks. Walmart is a mile away. We'd stay here again if we could find a better site (more level, sewer and/or 50-amp connection, utilities on the correct side). We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Staff rude and uncaring. Reservations here mean nothing, as they will give the site you reserve to someone else, and you get what they want you to have. Utilities in a state of disrepair and there is no sewer. Additionally, they charge $23 for you to dump your tanks. Grass was 2-3 feet tall. Trash and dog poop everywhere. Crowded and noisy. Low hanging trees. This place is awful and should be avoided at all cost!!!! We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is near I-70 but we were not disturbed by the traffic noise. The sites are very close to one another and some may be difficult to back in a larger travel trailer. We were in site 14 and had a lot of room on our entry door side because we were at the end of the first row. The sites in the middle and very cramped and crowded. It is located in the trees near the buffalo overlook. We had water and sewer hookups but no sewer. They had a dump station but charged $23.00 to use. This is a City of Denver park. We would camp there again. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

I recommend site 14 or site 17 if you are in a travel trailer or RV. The others are not roomy at all.

Beautiful setting, just off of the freeway, but the sites were way too small. We fit fine with our 25' motorhome, but very close to neighbors. Pretty walk to see the Bison, but they weren't there in the morning. They were out in the late afternoon when we pulled in. Staff was very friendly and waiting for us, but the bathrooms were not operable, but they looked nice. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for three days to visit friends in the area. This is the first and original RV park in the US of A. We knew coming in there were limited services (30 amp electric and water with dump site) but it was perfect. Good space between rigs, quiet, and many trees. It took us 20 min to get almost anywhere in west Denver. Showers cost $.25 for 2min ($1.50 for my shower) and were very clean. The roads thru the park were gravel and washed out somewhat, but passable. We will be back. We camped here in a motorhome. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Small campground right off I-70, so there is road noise. Sites are electric and water, no sewer. Area is manned by two campground hosts. Dump station costs $23. Not really big rig friendly as there are only a few pull thrus, mostly back-ins. Some trees close to the turns. Our site was fairly level. Bathrooms were clean, showers 25 cents per 2 minutes. This is a no frills campground, but there is a hiking trail and it is a great base to go do things in Golden, Denver, Idaho Springs. The historic Chief Hosa Lodge is right next door but is used as a rental facility. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very guest unfriendly $23.00 to dump your sewer. They will not receive a package sent to me by mail. Owned by the City of Denver and they couldn't care less what you think, it won't affect their pay check one bit. While your at this campground you are in the safest place in the US. The camp host drives his Gator by every 15 min. and you will see a park ranger often. I don't know what they are looking for but you feel like you are being watched constantly. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The Rv sites are a bit tight but the hosts guide you in so there's no need to worry at all. They're amazing! The dump fee is $23 and the showers cost $.25 per two minutes and you can only use 2 quarters at a time. Beside the freeway noise the campground is fairly quiet. The hosts are incredibly friendly and very caring. If you want to grab a cancellation make sure you ask them in the morning and they'll come get you if one pops up. It's a close campground to a lot of neat say trips. One exit down/up is Walmart if you need anything. We did have two bears rummaging sites last night. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Golden is a fun town for tube floating on the river and the Coors brewery tour. Wild buffalo bills west museum was a lot of fun. Driving to the airport was not fun in the traffic. Walmarts one exit up.

Noisy, noisy, and more noise. If l-70 traffic doesn't keep you up all night, the tent campers will. Smoking, laughing, singing...ALL NIGHT!!! I thought being somewhat in the mountains if would be quiet, peaceful, beautiful. No! Keep driving. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

We had reserved a non sewer site, upon arrival we learned it was $23 to use the dump station. The receptionist let us move to a sewer site (which was $2.59/night more but less than $23). She was very friendly and helpful. While we were there we had a package sent Fed Ex there, both lady hosts were extremely helpful with this, both watching out for our package if it came before we arrived. Many many thanks to them! The site we moved to, #5, was extremely narrow, but it had sewer. We stayed 2 nights. Bathrooms clean, had to put quarters in to take showers, but I did not use so I don't know how much it cost. We were very close to downtown Golden. A few over the air channels, good Verizon signal. Wifi if you sat near the reception area. Would stay here again without hesitation. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here for 10 days, split between site #13 and site #14. Had to play a sort of "musical chairs" on our transition day because three sites were switching, all amongst each other! That was interesting. Somehow, it was done though, and all was well. Site #13 is a bit of a squeeze, as you need to get in close to the edge of the site to make sure you're not blocking the pull through site directly behind you. Thankfully, they guide you to your site and help you position, because this campground is confusing. It's very old, and most of the sites show it (odd spacing, lots of tiny spaces, weird hookup locations, etc).

We were told our hookups were at the back of our site, but when we went to hookup, we weren't numbered for that specific box - we were numbered for a box about 10 feet in FRONT of our rv and down the slope (all sites on the ridge share electric and water with the tent site on the bottom of the ridge). This was very confusing and we had to go out and buy an extension cord to be able to make it work. Then, a few days in, we walked by the hookups and saw that the box we'd originally been told to hook up to (which was only numbered for the tent below) was now magically numbered for our site (#13). Seems the host came by, saw what we had to do to hook up, thought "oops", went and numbered the correct electric box, BUT NEVER TOLD US. We switched it to that one, but it was our last night. We can forgive the bungle, but at least tell us!!

Site #14 was easier by far. Leveling and hookups were all easy. Trash is a bit far from this section of the campground. Also, since this seemed like a grey area when I was researching, you DO need to pay to use the dump station, EVEN IF YOU ARE CAMPING. The fee is $23, and you'll have to sign paperwork acknowledging this.

Other than that, this was a good campground. We were able to get a Verizon Mifi signal. Sites felt open, there's a trail across the road that's great for dogs, and the mountain views are wonderful. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Walmart and Home Depot are literally one mile down the road. Saw lots of RVs hanging out in the parking lot at Walmart. Great proximity to Denver, with amazing views of the Front Range. Be careful of the steepness of I-70!! Don't push your vehicle too hard or you'll be pulled over on the side of the road. Countless 18 wheelers were crawling with their hazards on while navigating westbound.

Memorial Day weekend at Chief Hosa, one of the coldest/rainiest holidays in recent memory. The site we had was OK, it was fairly level, but it was muddy, particularly where the tow vehicle was parked. Didn't spend much time outside due to the weather. The campground can get crowded and the sites are close together, but no more so than some of those parking lot RV parks where there's barely room to breathe. The staff was friendly and very helpful, guide to help us get the rig in place. Water/Electric connections, no sewer. Only drawback -- they charge an additional $23 to use the dump station there, which is way too steep a price. I gave the park a 7 rating, since it's a viable park to stay in, close to I-70 and amenities, easy commute to Denver or Evergreen/Conifer area. Some of the sites aren't overly level, and it does take some experience in getting in and around the campground, as there are a lot of trees, and some tight turns. It was clean, and the restrooms were very clean. Some folks gripe about the fee to shower, but it's not really unreasonable. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nice setting with large trees, clean and quiet, but roads and spaces were very uneven, and the showers were some of the worst I've seen. You get 2 minutes of hot water for a quarter, then you had to get out of the water to add another quarter. There was nowhere to set clothes or shoes out of the water. Odd set up for pull throughs meant my RV door was directly across from my neighbors door, about 5 feet away. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The setting is pleasant, but right off of I-70 so road noise is pretty prevalent. The Wi-Fi is very spotty and not very good even if you have a good connection. It can't be relied on. The sites are close together. There are lots of trees and the camp hosts are very nice. It is a nice place to stay while doing things in the area - very convenient to the Denver metro. Easy on/off from Interstate 70. Campsites are in a woodsy setting, and somewhat sloped, which makes leveling a challenge. Park staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Peaceful park despite the closeness of other campers. We would stay here again. We camped at Chief Hosa Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.
