Amazing, simply amazing. The resort is fantastic all around. Spots were large enough for everything. The view was simply amazing, first time this east coaster ever got to see the milky way at night. We were setup across from the ATV rentals and thought it might be a noise issue but it didn't bother us at all. We had moose cruising through camp daily to include a momma and her baby. We did the horseback riding too. We took the 2 hour trip with and had a fantastic time! Guide was amazing too, tons of great stories! Can't recommend this place enough! We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Colorado river is right across from the entrance of the park has a nice trail and we fly fished almost every day and caught a ton of little brook trout. Rocky Mountain National Park is really close by. Don't miss Trail Ridge road and Old Fall River road on the way back. Don't be shy about taking Fall River road; we saw a mini van make it through, so your vehicle can too!! East Inlet Trail in Grand Lake is one of the nicest trails I've ever been on.

Overall Rating:

We arrived on a Thursday and check-in was prompt and courteous. We were provided a map and activity sheet for the resort. We were directed to site #41, which was large and surrounded by "mountain" shrubbery/trees on two sides of us.

PROS: Roads were easy to navigate (We have a 40' home with a Ram 1500 toad). Site #41 was large and offered two sides of privacy from neighbors. The lot was dirt but level. Electric and water was easily accessible. Lots of activities for couples and families include: horseback riding, ATV tours, animal farm, ice cream social, petting farm, playground, basketball court, horseshoe pits, and chuckwagon breakfasts/dinners. Personnel were very courteous and a pleasure to speak with during our stay. Location, location, location. This park sits within one-quarter mile of the entrance to RMNP.

CONS: Electricity voltage. On day one, temps dropped into the low 40's and our surge protector kept tripping for low voltage with our heat pump turned on. We received a quick response from personnel who responded and said they were aware of the problem on that circuit. No remedy was offered and we were told the park was booked for the weekend and no alternative site was available to us. On day three, the temps dropped into the 30's and without a heat pump or other alternative heating source, we called the office again. This time we were offered a different site but since we only had one additional night left, we opted to cut our vacation short and head home, which they refunded one night to us. Overall, we really liked the resort and the amenities. If it wasn't for the electrical issue, we would have given it a 9. We intend to return once the electrical issues are addressed. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Winding River is a unique western-style resort. It's set on a property adjacent to the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) just north of Grand Lake. Horseback, ATV, and snowmobile riding are all available. The park is large and has a good variety of site types. We had a full hookup, pull through, which was large and fairly level. For horse lovers with trailers, there are sites which have corrals. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You'll see amazing scenery from almost any site in the park. And the stars at night!!!!! We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is a weekly rate. This is really two RV parks in one. In the back it looks like a KOA with all the RVs lined up and side by side. We chose for more privacy and took one of the sites toward the office which are really secluded from one another. Ours will surrounded with Aspens and willows. Beautiful. Recommend sites 13 or 15 or another FHU site up front. Got to maneuver to get a sat signal. Water and sewer good. Electric dropped to 114 to 117 volts per leg when more RVs were plugged in, so electric can be iffy and you need to have a surge protector. Beautiful area surrounded by trees and mountains. Entry is really on the county road across from the visitors center and the 1.5 miles down the paved county road. All interior roads dirt/gravel and sites the same. Could be dusty in the summer. This is family oriented with ATV rentals, horse rentals, ball sports, etc., but the National Parks is right across a meadow. Saw deer and elk in the campground (could hear elk bugling all night). ! Staff helpful. This is the wild side of the National Park with lots of hiking. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Eat at the historic Grand Lake Lodge near entrance of the park. Bring your groceries since there are only two and expensive small markets in Grand Lake. Go out on all the hikes. You can do alone and without a ranger - recommend a hiking stick and a camera (and bear spray just in case). If you want a cultured time, go to the east side of the park, but if you want to experience the wild nature of the national park, come here.

The setting is beautiful. The upkeep of the area needs a little work. RMNP is very close. There are many activities in the area of Grand Lake also. We stayed in the open area which was full hook up but there are many sites with trees that are partial hookup if you are ok with that. Many activities are offered in the park. We enjoyed the ice cream social, pancake breakfast & Cowboy Church. There is ATV rental on site & trails through the forest adjacent to the park. They allow you to bring your own wood. If you bring your own ATV, they allow you one trip to the trails per day. We will return to this park in the future. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park. We stayed here for two nights as a home base for visiting the National Park. The RV park was very clean and the staff friendly. There are only a few full hookup sites and they are close together. There are more electric & water sites and they are more spacious and some are secluded.

The park has facilities for horse owners to bring their own horses. They also offer trail rides, pony rides, hayrides and an animal petting area. There is no wifi, but we had a good cellular signal. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like to see wildlife, drive Trail Ridge Road in the National Park just after dawn. We saw 70+ elk in 5 groups between the RV park and the mountain pass one morning.

The grocery stores in nearby Grand Lake are closed on Sunday evenings. If you are arriving from the south on Sunday and will need groceries, stop at City Market in Granby on your way.

This campground has some really wonderful parts. The area for big rigs is at the back, and has little in the way of trees. However, we had a campsite in the front, near cabins and surrounded by trees. It was wonderful. We had electricity and water - no sewer. But I'm fine with that sacrifice if it means I get privacy and shade. We had both. The water tasted good, the electricity was stable and the service was relaxed and friendly. My 6 yo daughter loved all the animals. She took a pony ride. It was terrific. There's no pool or playground, but the Colorado River is along the campground boundary so on a hot day you could do some wading. We had moderate temps and even some rain. The southwestern entry gate to Rocky Mountain National Park is 1/4 mile away. It's a better side of the park. More green, fewer people. And, the nearby town of Grand Lake is small, charming and fun. I would happily stay here again. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Lovely park set in the trees with beautiful views of the mountains. Elk came down each night and bedded down in a field quite close to our site. This park was quite close (2 miles) to the entrance to RMNP so it was very handy. Also Lake Grandby very near by for fishing, boating, etc. Loved this area so much we already booked a week for next July! We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful area. Campsite was clean, with plenty of space. Beautiful views and very nice walking trails. A lot to do here. Horseback riding, buggy rides, a convenient little store. Location was so convenient. Only a couple of miles to the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and a few miles away from Granby marina and restaurants. The really nice part was it was rustic so we got the feeling of "camping" with all of the conveniences. We were on a month-long trip from the east coast and this was one of our favorite campgrounds. We were in the first small loop, which had adequate space for us, but those who want more privacy, there are plenty of more spacious and secluded sites. Plan early...they stay pretty booked. Staff is very friendly and helpful! We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We love this RV campground. The campground is right outside of Rocky Mountain NP west entrance and wildlife roams nearby (elk, moose). The campsides are big and level and most have some shade. There's horseback riding, camp store, etc. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Tent Trailer.

We had originally planed to stay at another park but we told that we have to stay in a parking lot because it was Labor Day weekend, so at the last minute in desperation we called Winding River, and it turned out to be a jewel of a park with plenty of room between sites. Very family friendly with a cookout on Saturday night and a cowboy breakfast on Saturday morning, horseback rides and many activities for the entire family. The (very small) Colorado River is a short distance away and they had a wonderful Cowboy church on the riverbank Sunday morning. It borders Rocky Mountain National Park and it is close to the very touristy town of Grand Lake. About the only thing that kept it from being a "10" is a very small laundry with only 2 washing machines. There may be more in a building somewhere else but that's all we could find. The staff was very friendly and the entire park is a winner. One word of caution: our GPS was miles away from the actual location, but in their defense we were warned not to trust the GPS when we made reservations. Don't know why it was so far off, but trust them when they give specific instructions and tell you the GPS is wrong. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Various types of campsites, from rugged tent to spacious pull-throughs for large rigs. For RVs, sites are gravel with easy to use hook-ups. Excellent Wi-Fi. They have special facilities for horses and ATVs. Adjacent to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Grand Lake area has three large lakes for boating and fishing. If you like hiking, you are in paradise. Only weakness is muddy roads after a rain. We camped at Winding River RV Resort in a Motorhome.
