Strange place!! Never stayed in such a "discombobulated"RV park as tall Texan. RV "sites" placed all over the campground with seemedly no thought out plan as to RV placement for the comfort and privacy of the customers. Some placed back to back/back to side 3-4 feet apart, makes you feel like you are having dinner with you neighbors. Don't expected to have wi-fi. We were there for 4 days and never was able to logon. Management's answer was "guess everyone else is using it". Won't be going back to this place. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

As mentioned, weird layout. Older campground with a section full of long term campers. Our pull through site over looked the pond, though the water level was very low and it was full of green algae; ducks didn't mind, though. No dog area, just posts with poop bags. Intermittent wifi, and weak signal. Good cable reception. The thing that I didn't like was parking under cottonwood trees. Our trailer and truck were covered with droplets of sap. Washing your rig is only allowed up next to the office, but I broke the rules and washed my trailer the night before we left; I saw others washing their rigs at their site so I didn't feel guilty. Staff were friendly & helpful. Many Texans were here as a regular group make this their Summer residence. Wish I could refer you to another nearby CG with full hookups, but we weren't impressed with them, either. Bring your bucket, sponge, & car wash soap if you're going during the sappy season. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Site 28 was a mud put, while most all other spots were dry. We paid for two nights up front as insurance if we could not find a National Forest campground up the canyon. We stayed one night and move on. I asked about a refund, even partial for not being there the second night, and they answer was NO. Didn't use the showers, bathrooms or any services besides full hookup at the site. Paid $3 for cable and it worked and had a bunch of channels you'd expect at home. As everyone said the sites are on top of each other, many of the sites are full timers and have junk everywhere stacked around their trailers. The water had so much chlorine in it the steam of the shower burned your eyes. The back flow adapter at the facet leaked, which only added to our mud pit. Maintenance is lacking. My 90degree elbow almost got stuck in the sewer because I couldn't un-screw it, as it was not glued on and just turned. Cable TV wire was just strung across the ground, in the MUD. Some gravel in these mud holes would help. At least there was a picnic table and a concrete pad for it, but that doesn't overcome the mud. We asked for a fire ring (free, they deliver and setup) but they were out of firewood, which I honestly think was BS as they probably don't order it so they have less to do/clean up. After 4 days in the canyon with no shower, we chose to not even come back to Tall Texan for a shower (went to another campground instead), even though we paid $40 for a night never used, that they filled after we left (I called to check availability). Take a chance, drive on by, go up to ANY of the Forest Service Parks. There are many options for camping up toward Taylor Reservoir, most don't have full hookup, but the scenery is much better and you aren't parking on top of each other. There is a public dump station (free) by the airport (look closely for the signs on US50 West). We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We were towed here from a campground up in the mountains to await emergency repairs on our towing vehicle. When I checked in for one night, I explained the uncertainty of our situation and that we may need two nights. We were told that our site would not be available for two nights unless we paid for both nights at check in. So we did, and our truck repairs were done early the following morning. But Tall Texan would not give us any kind of refund or credit. I felt a little "strong armed" into paying. On top of it I was ill and we needed to get back home as soon as possible. This is a crowded, campground. The cottonwood trees made a mess everywhere, and there is only cable in some sites. The sites are extremely small and difficult to get into because of the trees at the driveway corners. The sites are positioned very close together, and you will hear your neighbors conversations. We will not be visiting again. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Have you ever gone to a restaurant where they sat you at a really small table when there were lots and lots of larger ones? No one ever came in and got those tables, but the owners were more interested in a hoped for surge than satisfying the people who were actually there. This campground stuffed us into a small site and we had to cram our tow vehicle perpendicular to the trailer. But larger spaces were all around. Fair number of long term RVs with much stuff on their sites. Lots of trees, somewhat narrow roads make towing through the park difficult for some rigs. It is right next to a county road and some sites may be noisy because of it. Cable TV available at some sites for an extra $3 (lots of extra charges for guests, etc.). They never told us the WiFi password and it is not on the paperwork. We forgot to ask. At around $43 per night, this campground is simply not worth it even though the trees are nice. Next time we'll check out another nearby even though it is near the airport. A lot of campgrounds listed under Gunnison are actually west of town near Blue Mesa reservoir and fairly far. Getting something right near town is not easy. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Travel Trailer.

One of the best small parks we've stayed at, nestled in among beautiful trees. Appears to be quite a few long term residents but everyone we met was very friendly and the park was immaculate. We'll definitely stop again if in the area. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older park and the site we had was very hard to maneuver into and out of. Utilities worked fine but internet was not good so don't count on it. It appears half of the park is okay and the other half is not great. I would suggest asking for a spot on the left side of the park as you come in. Park needs updating and maintenance. Owner very nice. Water pressure not good. Internet non-existent unless you go to office area. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Many well-maintained cottonwoods in the park so good shade. As stated in other reviews, Wifi was very spotty, whether from coverage or folks streaming videos when I only wanted to check weather, stuff to do, or restaurants: frustrating. Restrooms/showers probably undersized for the size of the park but very clean. Park is very convenient to Crested Butte and everything in the Gunnison valley. Very limited fire rings which was great - no smoke haze hanging over the whole park. Sites were tight but we tend to get out and stay away all day anyway. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Garlic Mike's is a great Italian restaurant only 0.3 miles away. One can walk there and stagger home. Mario's Pizza in town is a great hole-in-the-wall. If there is a rainy day, go to the pioneer museum in town - great local history. Beer selection is better at Safeway than Citi Mart.

This part would have rated a "10" if the lane ways had not been so muddy. The whole place needs a load of gravel. GPS spell out "county road" In their address. The sign for the turn in is Very easy to miss. If you cross the river, you've gone too Beautiful mature park. Most folks are there all summer long and have been returning for years. They set up beautiful flower gardens around their rigs with lots of bird feeders. Hummingbirds every where. There is a small pond at north end of the park. Really huge trees on every site. Really nice stream runs along the entire southern border of the park. Lanes are dirt that get very muddy with the rain. Sites are dirt and very close to each other. This park is in a cottonwood forest. Everyone very friendly. There is a wonderful bike/walking path. No planned activities and no pool. Good cable TV and typical RV park WIFI. No planned activities. We would love to return and spend the entire summer in the future. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice little old town with shops and cafes. Short drive to the historic main street with many shops and cafes. Good grocery close by. About a 45 minute drive to the ski town of Crested Butte with lots of cafes and shops to browse.

We stayed 30 days, we were flooded the first night by rising water and poor drainage. The cottonwood trees was shedding cotton every day and dripping sap on the motor home and we were not allowed to wash the outside. The owner would not even listen to a complaint and was very rude. At one time it was a very nice park and the former owners were very nice. The new owner is a real jerk and very unreasonable. The roads are all dirt and dusty, he does not oil the roads anymore and the area is getting run down. Lost power several times and the water pressure was very low for a good shower and took forever to get a sink of water to wash dishes. We will never go back because we don't need the confrontations by the owner. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Motorhome.

Good, quiet location on edge of town--away from highway and on road leading to Crested Butte and beautiful Colorado back country. Pull through sites seem very dense--close together and short with somewhat narrow roads, but enough room to open awnings and use slide outs. All spaces have picnic table and concrete patio. We recommend the dry camping tent area or full hook up sites by the pond--considerably more spacious. Campground has nice added feature of large indoor space--kind of a clubhouse with tables and chairs for informal gatherings. Also has a nice outside covered picnic area for groups. Extra charge for a third adult and another extra charge for an extra vehicle. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rate was for a week's stay and also includes the $3/day extra for 50amp. We stayed here late season, so the park was emptying out. The fall colors there were gorgeous, and there's a sweet little stream that runs alongside. The owner put us in one of the best sites, after I asked for a satellite-friendly one (the cg is in a cottonwood forest). We had no problem getting signal with our roof-mounted dish and so enjoyed the beautiful location!! The sites near/next to the pond are lovely! Also found the owner to be very friendly and helpful when we needed extra hands for loading equipment. He obviously works hard to keep the cg in good shape and to help people into and out of their sites. I don't understand the other recent, rather poor, reviews of this place! We have done part-full time RVing for almost 6 years now and found this to be a very nice cg! And the so-called "trashy trailer park" another reviewer referred to wasn't visible/noticeable to us from the cg (in fact, I couldn't see it well enough to know if it was trashy or not!). We have a 40' motorhome and would definitely stay here again, esp. late season. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Motorhome.

Probably was once a good family RV park. Nice log cabin style buildings. Beautiful outside pavilion, but all was run down with no activity for guest. When we arrived things were not right. Entrance was overgrown with tree limbs rubbing side of rig. Part of office ceiling had falling down. Guided us thru the back forty and parked us beside a year around renter. Grass had not been mowed. Would not stay here again. We camped at Tall Texan Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
