Cow Creek South is campground located along side of the Green Mountain Reservoir. Some of the sites have trees on them - some don't. Many of the sites offer easy access to the water for people or a small canoe, kayak. Some sites offer a good place to tie a larger motor boat. Many people were fishing right from there sites. We did not see any hiking trails at the campground but it was nice walking along the campground roads. There wasn't a lot of traffic on the campground roads and the people driving vehicles seemed mindful of people walking and riding bikes. This is a nice place to stop when traveling. It would be especially nice if you bring a boat and/or bike. The campground was about full when we stayed on a weekend in the summer so I would recommend a reservation if staying on the weekend in the summer. Our site had some trash on the site - not terrible but it did detract from the pleasantness of the site. I would stay at this park again Note: Price is just an estimate. We camped at Cow Creek South, Green Mountain Reservoir in a Truck Camper.

Crowded, but beautiful and near the reservoir. We camped at Cow Creek South, Green Mountain Reservoir in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

The rate reflects a 50% Senior Pass discount. This campground is one of several National Forest Service campgrounds on the shore of Green Mountain Reservoir in White River National Forest. The GPS coordinates are 39.87944, -106.27722. It is the only one that takes reservations (recreation.gov). It is very convenient, just off of Highway 9 but has almost no traffic noise. The road into the campground and all interior roads and sites are dirt/gravel. Sites 1 – 32 are spread out along the shore right next to the lake, some with great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. They are the best for views but most are hard to level for all but the smallest RV, unless you are skilled at leveling and have ample blocks. We are 27 feet and were able to find a spot where we could level. Sites 33 – 44 are away from the lake, but are nice, long level sites. Some of these would be suitable for even the longer RVs. There is no fresh water or dump, nor are they available at any of the campgrounds on the lake, so come with full tanks and plan on leaving with full waste tanks. There are vault toilets. When we were there, campground hosts were present. Depending on the source, the campground closes for the season on September 14 or 26, so best to call to confirm closing date during the September period. We did not have a Verizon signal. There are few trees so getting satellite is not a problem. There is a great 3 miles hike around lower cataract lake about 15 miles away. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Cow Creek South, Green Mountain Reservoir in a Motorhome.
