Spent a week here. Very nice and scenic. Lots of walking trails. Laundry was an extra bonus at a state park. You did have to pay a $8 daily fee on top of the nightly rate. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A very large state park with lots of things to do: Biking, boating, fishing, model plane airstrip, camping. You get the picture. In our camping loop D there were a few trees but not many. I think it was a average of one per sight. Lots of room between sites with full hookups and nice level concrete pads for parking. There is plenty of room to park our big motorhome, our car and our friends car when they came to visit. There is a fire ring and picnic table. We would stay here again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Great park just outside metropolitan Denver. Quiet with roomy sites. Easy in and out and utilities worked well (except WIFI) and were located properly near the center of the site. Employee at check in was indifferent to customers and not very helpful or friendly. For a state park this is a little pricey. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

No wi-fi in 163 - 173 area, but the repeater made wireless available sometimes in the larger-numbered sites in the D loop. Restrooms were clean for a state campground. The loop configuration makes you feel like you have your own space. If you're near the side by the marina you can hear the clanging of the boats' rigging if the wind is blowing. It's like a wind chime, pleasant and soothing. We weren't bothered by any noise, but kept our windows closed most of the time because the nights were starting to get a little cool and we needed the heater in the morning. Chatfield is close to the Denver metro area, which makes it very popular, especially on weekends. Those go fast, and since reservations can be made 6 months in advance, your only hope for a weekend night is a cancellation. Reservations are through ReserveAmerica, and if you think there's no room try modifying your search for a single day, then hit the tab for Date Range Availability. You may be able to stay longer if you are willing to switch sites. There may also be walk-ins from cancellations, since the reservation system requires a 3-day lead time. Nightly rate does not include $10 fee per reservation nor the daily park entrance fee. You can stay 14 days out of 45. We stayed in multiple sites and got a lucky weekend cancellation, so we didn't have to leave the park, but we did have to change location every day or two. That was preferable to finding a different park! We fit easily into all the sites in D loop with our 45' fifth wheel, didn't have to unhook the Freightliner, and the sites were so level that we just put down the Big Foot for stability. We also had room for the car in the space. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Easy access to the foothills area of Denver metro, with plenty to see and do in the area. There are two entrances to the park, use the one off of Santa Fe if you're 13' or more, as the Wadsworth entrance has an overhang at the ranger station.

We stayed at Chatfield SP for two weeks shortly after staying at nearby Cherry Creek SP for two weeks, so drawing comparisons is inevitable. Chatfield gets high marks for offering full hookups and level, concrete sites for only $30/night. There are lots of paved trails for biking and walking, and we never ran out of places to walk our dog from the campground (including walking him down to the lake for a swim). Although the park has great views of the nearby mountains, we found the park scenery itself to be pretty bland--very few trees, mostly just open fields. Of the four camping loops, we found that the sites in A, B, and C were fairly close together. We chose D loop which has much larger and more private sites. Although we saw a strong signal from the campground WiFi we were never able to get connected. Our Verizon and AT&T both hovered around 1-2 bars of signal so we switched on our cell booster for better speeds. The fenced 70-acre dog park ($2/day or $20/year) is very nice, with paved walking trails and several small lakes for dogs to swim in. It's on the other side of the State Park though, which means a 7-mile drive from the campground, around the lake, on 25 MPH roads, so plan on 15 minutes each way to get to the dog park. The park roads are generally good, but some sections are new and wide with bike lanes, and some sections are old and narrow, so you WILL be driving slowly behind bicyclists pretty often. It also takes at least 15 minutes to exit the park and get to the nearest stores. Despite these drawbacks it's a very nice park and we'll likely return. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

We were able to reserve a site available by walk-up. It's a 3-mile drive from the entrance to the campground. All the sites in this campground are pull-throughs and situated in large loops encircling each other, so you still have neighbors, but everyone feels pretty spaced out from each other. It's a pretty good system. The roads are all paved and sites are all concrete pads and level. No view of the lake from the campground, but you're far from the city and feels like you're out in nature on the prairie. It's a nice retreat for the city-dwellers who don't want to travel far away. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We did our grocery shopping at King Soopers. If you're inclined to see a movie, check out the AMC Theaters in Highlands Ranch - the seats are reclining loungers and doesn't cost any more than a regular movie ticket. We were highly impressed!

Camp area has very little or no shade. The sites are concrete and level. I was surprised that there was internet access which worked extremely well. Phone service and TV reception was also very good. The park offers many activities ranging from hiking, biking horseback riding and swimming. Be aware that you must pay a daily park fee of $8 which puts the FHU cost at $38. I would stay here again. Park is located on Chatfield lake in Littleton CO, southwest of Denver. We were there on a Thursday and camped in site C122, electricity only for $26.00. There were plenty of sites available. Sites were pull through and have very little or no shade. We were in a electricity only loop, there is a full hook-up loop for $30.00. We had a Veterans/Military Pass, issued by Colorado for its State Parks. Saves you the $8.00 daily pass which is in addition to the camping fee at every Colorado State Park during the month of August.

Park facilities include flush toilets, pay hot showers, laundry, centrally located water, fire ring and a dump station. Bathroom and Shower house was very clean. The park offers boating, bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, and a swimming beach on the opposite side of the lake. It even has a model airplane flying field. We would stay at Chatfield SP again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for three nights and definitely would come back. We received free daily passes due to my husband being a veteran. A nice surprise and appreciation from the state of CO! The campground was spacious and had nice trails, especially for bikes. The scenery is beautiful and a very relaxed atmosphere. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped several times here and it is always a fun place to go! This year, we were in A Loop, site #008, our favorite. Great views of the lake and within walking distance to the marina. FHU worked great and site was very level. Water pressure was a bit low, but no problems. This was the first year we brought our boat along and initially we parked the boat and tow vehicle at the marina because we were not sure if it would fit at the site. The next day we tried it and it did fit! Even with the 30ft trailer and truck, the 18ft Bayliner and SUV tow vehicle fit within the site.
Nice and close to home, we will be back! We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have a dog, be sure to visit the park's off-leash dog park located on the other side of the dam. Very large and fenced, it was a great place to let the labs roam and have fun! There are water ponds for them to play in.

We loved this campground. There were air balloons over the reservoir on two mornings. Grounds well kept. Some distant noise from C 470, but not overwhelming. Beautiful views of the foothills. We didn't use the showers but they looked top shelf. I prefer this SP to Cherry Creek. In addition to the campground fee there is an $8/day SP fee. Large pull through sites. Easy access, full hookups, nice views, lots of space between sites. Easy to get in an out of the sites. Very level. Campsites were very clean. Great all-round campsite. The one downside is they are not close to the water or the marina, but overall a great campsite. Get a site on the outer side of the outer rings of the loops for more space and privacy. Mostly open campground with great views of mountains west of Denver. No shade sites, so no loop is better than another. Nice hike/bike trail around perimeter, which includes lakeside and marina. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by flooding, which caused showers, restrooms, and sewer hook ups to be closed. OK, but why no message to those holding reservations? And after day 3 of 4 day stay, port-a-pots were not emptied and unusable. Only clean one was outside ranger station. Ranger on duty was not helpful in addressing port-a-pot situation, repeatedly saying he would "tell them about it". We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is the first time that we have stayed in a Colorado State Park, and it left a good impression. The only issue was that the water was off, because of it being so late in the year, but we were forewarned. It sits above the Chatfield Reservoir, and all the roads were paved and the sites were concrete pads. It is a beautiful area and very quiet. We used our TV antenna and received 10 stations, and the WiFi worked well. We would definitely stay here again, and will look at other Colorado State parks to stay in. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.
