A very large state park with lots of things to do: Biking, boating, fishing, model plane airstrip, camping. You get the picture. In our camping loop D there were a few trees but not many. I think it was a average of one per sight. Lots of room between sites with full hookups and nice level concrete pads for parking. There is plenty of room to park our big motorhome, our car and our friends car when they came to visit. There is a fire ring and picnic table. We would stay here again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Great park just outside metropolitan Denver. Quiet with roomy sites. Easy in and out and utilities worked well (except WIFI) and were located properly near the center of the site. Employee at check in was indifferent to customers and not very helpful or friendly. For a state park this is a little pricey. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Camp area has very little or no shade. The sites are concrete and level. I was surprised that there was internet access which worked extremely well. Phone service and TV reception was also very good. The park offers many activities ranging from hiking, biking horseback riding and swimming. Be aware that you must pay a daily park fee of $8 which puts the FHU cost at $38. I would stay here again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Park is located on Chatfield lake in Littleton CO, southwest of Denver. We were there on a Thursday and camped in site C122, electricity only for $26.00. There were plenty of sites available. Sites were pull through and have very little or no shade. We were in a electricity only loop, there is a full hook-up loop for $30.00. We had a Veterans/Military Pass, issued by Colorado for its State Parks. Saves you the $8.00 daily pass which is in addition to the camping fee at every Colorado State Park during the month of August.

Park facilities include flush toilets, pay hot showers, laundry, centrally located water, fire ring and a dump station. Bathroom and Shower house was very clean. The park offers boating, bicycling, horseback riding, hiking, and a swimming beach on the opposite side of the lake. It even has a model airplane flying field. We would stay at Chatfield SP again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for three nights and definitely would come back. We received free daily passes due to my husband being a veteran. A nice surprise and appreciation from the state of CO! The campground was spacious and had nice trails, especially for bikes. The scenery is beautiful and a very relaxed atmosphere. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped several times here and it is always a fun place to go! This year, we were in A Loop, site #008, our favorite. Great views of the lake and within walking distance to the marina. FHU worked great and site was very level. Water pressure was a bit low, but no problems. This was the first year we brought our boat along and initially we parked the boat and tow vehicle at the marina because we were not sure if it would fit at the site. The next day we tried it and it did fit! Even with the 30ft trailer and truck, the 18ft Bayliner and SUV tow vehicle fit within the site.
Nice and close to home, we will be back! We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have a dog, be sure to visit the park's off-leash dog park located on the other side of the dam. Very large and fenced, it was a great place to let the labs roam and have fun! There are water ponds for them to play in.

We loved this campground. There were air balloons over the reservoir on two mornings. Grounds well kept. Some distant noise from C 470, but not overwhelming. Beautiful views of the foothills. We didn't use the showers but they looked top shelf. I prefer this SP to Cherry Creek. In addition to the campground fee there is an $8/day SP fee. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large pull through sites. Easy access, full hookups, nice views, lots of space between sites. Easy to get in an out of the sites. Very level. Campsites were very clean. Great all-round campsite. The one downside is they are not close to the water or the marina, but overall a great campsite. Get a site on the outer side of the outer rings of the loops for more space and privacy. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Mostly open campground with great views of mountains west of Denver. No shade sites, so no loop is better than another. Nice hike/bike trail around perimeter, which includes lakeside and marina. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by flooding, which caused showers, restrooms, and sewer hook ups to be closed. OK, but why no message to those holding reservations? And after day 3 of 4 day stay, port-a-pots were not emptied and unusable. Only clean one was outside ranger station. Ranger on duty was not helpful in addressing port-a-pot situation, repeatedly saying he would "tell them about it". We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is the first time that we have stayed in a Colorado State Park, and it left a good impression. The only issue was that the water was off, because of it being so late in the year, but we were forewarned. It sits above the Chatfield Reservoir, and all the roads were paved and the sites were concrete pads. It is a beautiful area and very quiet. We used our TV antenna and received 10 stations, and the WiFi worked well. We would definitely stay here again, and will look at other Colorado State parks to stay in. Beautiful CG. For a State park it is exceptional. Sites are large concrete pads with lots of space between them. We camped in "D" loop which is open year round. They did turn off the water during our stay but we were there to visit our son and his family so we were only there at night. The night fee we paid included an 8 dollar entrance fee for every day. You can buy a state pass for a year but we did not. If during the season you would definitely need reservations. Would definitely stay here again.Shower building also has washer & dryers. The state park (around Denver anyway) are a hidden dream. Really feels like camping vs the parking lots of most RV parks and the facilities are excellent. Only issue is getting a reservation. They fill up! Kudos to CO for having these! We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The lake is just down the road. If you're camping in Denver area check this park out. You're really just 10 to 15 minutes from any type of city amenity you want but feel like you're out on the plains.

We were fortunate to get a full hook-up site here within a week of our arrival date. It's best to book the state campgrounds well ahead of time due to their popularity. We really wanted to go camping this weekend and kept looking for cancellations. In addition to the nightly rate, there is a $10 reservation fee. We were extremely happy with this campground. Paved roads throughout the campground including paved sites with a concrete pad for the trailer. I did notice some sites had concrete pads for the picnic tables as well. Our site was a massive pull-through; extremely clean with the gravel area freshly raked and the fire pit thoroughly cleaned. Unlike so many of the other pull through sites in privately owned campgrounds, these were staggered so you weren't on top of your neighbor. The way the sites were set up, your door faced away from the road as well as other campers. So far this is our favorite campground in Colorado. Location is great, minutes away from the city and less than a 20 minute drive to the Outlets of Castle Rock (great shopping area), but you really feel you are away from it all, so relaxing. We will definitely camp here again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here 6 nights. Choose a full hookup site if you can. If you choose to be in a non-full hookup site, you can fill up with water at an empty site and there is a dump station available or again you can use an empty site. The sites are very spacious and far apart. There is lots of privacy. There is a shower house in each loop and multiple bathroom houses which includes a laundry ($1.75 wash, $1.25 dry for 80 minutes). It seems to be busy on the weekends, but is very quiet during the week. There is a beautiful beach and bike trail. They have horseback riding and a boat ramp. You have to pay $8/day to enter the park and then an additional $22-28 for camping depending on the day of the week. There is a grocery store and other services nearby. It has a beautiful setting in the foothills and convenient to get into the mountains for whatever you want to do. This is a beautiful park and we would stay here again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.
