This park is great. We stayed in the D loop again, which is perfect for larger rigs. Since the park is under construction due to their plan to raise the level of the reservoir, we had to go in the east entrance, but it's closer to the campground anyway so that wasn't a problem. Like several other Colorado state parks, this dam and reservoir are managed by the COE, while the park areas are managed by the state. D loop has full hookups until November, when they shut the water off for the winter. The other loops are really nice, but not big enough for us. We stayed in three different spots because we booked too late to get a long stint in the same space, but that was ok. The site we were in had a cancellation during a snow event that was coming up, so we didn't have to move. That was a plus! We like this park and will always put it at the top of the list when we come back to visit family in our old city of residence. We get the annual pass, which covers admission to ALL of the state parks, and is well worth the price. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a great little Mexican restaurant just off of Santa Fe, El Meson. Try something different, they've got some unusual family recipes on the menu. You're close to the metro area, so all the shopping you need is within minutes after you get out of the park an onto the major roads.

Price reflects camping only. There is also a daily access for of $8. Annual passes are available to cover the daily fee if you are a frequent state park camper. I have a lifetime pass that I paid a lot for but they refused to honor it because circumstances caused me to move out of state. I was disappointed that apparently lifetime does not really mean lifetime so my camping really cost me $41 per day. Check in was a little chaotic as numerous campers arrived at about the same time with only one check in station. That being said, the park is very nice with plenty of space between camping sites. OTA TV produced numerous channels. Can pick up Wi-Fi near the restroom facilities. Interior roads are blacktop and sites are level concrete slabs. Picnic table on small patio and fire ring at each site. Sites are cleaned by campground host after each departure. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

There is an adjacent model airplane flying area that is interesting to watch and talk with the "pilots". Easy to get to all the Denver attractions. Also an easy one hour drive to Boulder for the Pearl Street Mall. Check out Liberty Puzzles if you go to Boulder. They give M-F plant tours (10-4) of their wooden jigsaw puzzle plant.

We enjoyed our stay here. We had a nice pull through with nice space between other campers and had lots of places to walk the dogs. There are bunny rabbits everywhere so have a good leash. There is construction in the area, they are raising the level of the lake. Its really going to be a summer hot spot. Make reservations early the locals book the weekends far in advance. We will stay here again. Littleton is a nice little town. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Major construction in the park so be sure it does not impact you. We entered the park from the Plum Creek entrance or Roxborough Rd. It is the closest entrance to the campsites. The nightly fee does not include the $10 reservation fee or the daily vehicle fee. We stayed several days at Colorado State Parks so we an annual pass for $70 otherwise it is $7 a day entrance fee for the RV. Keep your towed vehicle hooked to your RV until after you register in order to receive the towed vehicle pass which is free. Great facility, good price for the location and easy access to major roads. We stayed here 11 days and will definitely return to this park when we are in the area. Visit Red Rocks Amphitheater, Coors Brewery, Roxborough SP, Rocky Mt. Arsenal Wildlife Area, Mile High Stadium, Coors Stadium, blue bear at Convention Center, tour Capitol, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Ride the light rail from Mineral Springs to downtown with a regional ticket. Access the Mary Carter Greenway from the north end of the park for a nice bike ride. Dog park, hot air balloon launch across the lake and model airplane field are a few extras.

Overall Rating:

It is a beautiful park and campground. Sites are level and very spacious. My site (195) was shaded back-in but still had satellite reception. Roads are wide and easy to maneuver. There is a very nice off leash dog park that had mostly large dogs (swimming, etc) but all were well behaved. Check-in is a little time consuming. If you do not have a park pass you wait in one line to be told to go to park reservations office to check in where you wait in another line to purchase your pass plus obtain your toad pass. Very congested area but am told they are building a new area for campground check-in. Lots of construction at the north end of the park, but it does not affect the campgrounds if you enter through the Titan Parkway/Roxborough Park Rd entrance. Be sure to read directions on your confirmation. Very busy; get a reservation early. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

I stayed here for a week in site 11, thinking that the site closest to the marina would provide some nice walks and scenery, with views of the lake. However, this is not a good site. You can't see the mountains, and only a little bit of the water. But the worst part is that the road coming from the boat area points directly at this site, illuminating you with headlights well into the night. The park is under construction as they make improvements. One of the days there was a truck not too far from my site that was sucking water and gravel out of the ground for most of the day. The next day, there were people doing surveying and yelling to each other. Then, someone mowed around my site with a riding mower and threw rocks and grass all over the site of my motorhome. Every morning, birds were all over everyone's RVs and that was pretty noisy. I was about over it by the time the week was over. I had a friend on a loop next to mine who was facing west and it was much better. I just chose poorly. I'm not sure I'd stay here again until construction is over. Stay on the west side of the campground with your door facing the mountains. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Chatfield is one of our favorites in the US. Paved roads and concrete pads with gravel patios. The work campers rake the rocks and clean the sites after each camper leaves. We did not use restrooms. WiFi worked great the entire two weeks we were there. Lots of OTA channels and wide open to receive satellite. Strong Verizon signal. D loop is very big rig friendly. Sites are large and offer some privacy. As others have mentioned there is a construction project going on to increase the water level of the reservoir. It doesn't really affect the campground and we never heard it but when going out the west entrance you do drive through it. Bigger rigs must enter on the east side but that is stated in your confirmation. Huge dog park that you can drive to. We'll be back. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Check out Breckenridge Brewery on Santa Fe Dr. It's so much more than a brewery and is family friendly. King Soopers at Wadsworth and Chatfield Ave is a very nice grocery store. Tipsy's Liquor at C-470 and Bowles is a huge discount liquor store and has everything you could possibly want.

This is a great park. Hard to believe it is so handy to Denver. Paved roads. Concrete pad sites. Picnic table. Fire ring. Sites are well spaced apart by natural environment. Great family destination for a weekend of camping. Great for overnight stay if passing through Denver. Very big rig friendly. Very well maintained park. Will definitely return. For us, Chatfield is a close destination and we regularly use it for quick weekend camping. Our particular site, #040, was very nice with lots of room! Chatfield is undergoing a makeover for the next 3 years (approx.) so some of the activities will be disrupted. The West entrance to the park has limited access and is used for the North boat ramp and off-leash dog area only. This is due to the access road being diverted. Campers must use the south "Plum Creek" entrance off Roxborough Road. Best route is Santa Fe to Titan Rd. Google it. The Water Reallocation Project will raise the reservoir by approx. 12 feet. Some wetlands areas will be lost. Main Marina will be moved to the east cove probably within 18 months. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Seems like a good deal at first (only $24 a night) but then they want to charge a day use for each vehicle or RV coming into the park. It is $8 per day per vehicle. (Motorhome and toad $16 a day. Fifth wheel and truck $8) We ended up buying annual Colorado passes for both vehicles since we were there 2 weeks. We have a 37 ft fifth wheel, and I believe we would have fit in any of the sites. They are all nice and long. Except for the A loop which seems more cramped. D loop is full hook up. C loop has nice views, but no sewer. Restrooms and laundry very nice. Keep in mind the brilliant state park system does not let you check in, or change sites until after 1pm. There will be a line forming at 1pm. An overflow lot is available if you get there early. Although the park is in town, allow 10 minutes to drive in/out of the park, its huge. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

First, the nightly rate does not include the daily park fee of $8 per day. This is one great park. It is immense and has lots of things to do such as hiking, biking, boating and even hot air ballooning (need to bring your own). Roads into and out of the park are very good and the roads inside the park are excellent. I would suggest that you review the park map as there are two entrances to the park and distances to the campgrounds vary. Also depending where you want to go outside the park will determine which park entrance you will want to use, so study up a little before going. The campground has 197 sites located in 4 loops. Of those 197 sites 146 have full hookups. Loops A and B have full hookup sites mixed in with water and electric sites. Loop C is electric only and Loop D, I believe the newest, is all full hookups with probably the largest sites. We choose Loop A to have full hookups and a water view. It was a pull through site with excellent hookups on a asphalt surface and a very nice concrete pad with picnic table and fire pit with grill facing the lake and nice trees and native grasses. All hook ups worked well and were nicely placed near mid trailer. Our Verizon hot spot worked well here and there were plenty of OTA TV channels to view. The only minor problem was at checkin where the line was quite long and only one very nice and efficient lady was handling all the arrivals. My hat off to her as she did not get flustered and handled everybody with a smile and in a very professional manor even though she was swamped. The park is a great location if you plan on seeing the so many places and things that the area has to offer. This will be our base location when we visit the Denver area again. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to Red Rocks Amphitheater not far from Chatfield and its free museum of rock star history. Have lunch at the Buckhorn Exchange near downtown-very historic. Take the old Georgetown Loop railroad in historic Georgetown, CO. Go south to Colorado Springs to see Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak. Have lunch at the historic Broadmoor Hotel. This isn't even the tip of the iceberg, but can get you started.

This is a huge state park south of Littleton, CO with very nice campsites for RVs and others. We did our registration over the Internet, and arrived 10 minutes before the office was supposed to close, but they were already gone. We never went back to the office, but never had any issues. You have to pay daily park access fees (when you first arrive at the park) separate from the RV site fees. The rate I noted reflects the combination of those fees. At the site there was a marker with our name on it, so all was good. The site was asphalt and concrete with a large picnic table and large fire pit/grill. We didn't have a tree but a few sites did. These sites have a huge amount of room between them, and we loved being far away from our neighbors. There is no WiFi that I could get to work (though there was, occasionally, some SSID that showed up which implied there was some WiFi) but the Verizon signal was 2-3 bars, and the over-the-air TV was quite good. We never visited the laundry room or bathrooms. If in the area again we would definitely stay here! We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here only 1 night passing through Denver with a 35' MH. We would have preferred Cherry Creek SP because it is better shaded. But Chatfield is equivalent in every other respect - nice (pay) showers and bathrooms, paved parking pads, nice gravel picnic area with table, smaller evergreens which give privacy but not relief from the sun. Nice view of foothills in the morning. We still prefer Cherry Creek but this is very nice as a second choice. We're happy with Colorado State Parks, except the pay showers. Was able to get a site at the last minute for our 40' long rig, towing a Jeep. Full hookups and great TV stations (69 digital) just on an antenna. Loop A, site 19 was a nicely organized site with a clean fire ring, and perfectly level concrete pad. There was a big tree that we had to avoid, but not too much of a problem. Could not see the lake from this site and restrooms were a little walk. Nearby playground for kids. The sites are well-spaced apart, and lots of room to sit out. Nice picnic table. We spent time shopping in Littleton which is about a 20 minute drive away. Plan on coming back ASAP and try to get the spaces nearer to the lake. A little pricey for a State park. Chatfield has "mini-parks" within the Park. There is a swimming beach, a dog off leash area, wildlife viewing, model airplane landing strip, and much more. It also has Group areas where several RVs and picnickers can congregation and stay together.
