Carter Lake is a wonderful place to bring your boat! The Eagle campground is well kept and clean. It is an older campground and could use some improvements to interior roads and sites. Roads are gravel and dirt and some places can get a little steep when moving your rig around. Electrical hookups only and water spigots are situated here and there. Closest dump station is at the Ranger station about 15 minutes away. Our site, E-05, was a bit unlevel, it has the best view of the reservoir in the entire campground. Quite spectacular! Cell service was awful with T-Mobile. No wifi available. Shower house is fairly new and clean, but a bit pricey. You must purchase tokens for $1 each. 2 token minimum to start for 6 minutes. Eagle Campground is just across the street from the main marina and marina store, very convenient! There is ample parking for boats and extra vehicles next to the campground neat the shower house. Only really crappy thing that happened (Not the CG's fault) was some idiot stole my boat cover off my boat one night! Rangers were quick to respond, but a dead case. We camped at Eagle Campground at Carter Lake in a Travel Trailer.

This is our second stay here at Carter Lake. This reservoir is a great place to bring your boat! Big and quiet even on a weekend! We camped in Eagle Campground across the street from the marina. Super close to the boat ramps and ample parking next to the campground for your boat and tow vehicle. A new shower house is close by all within walking distance from your campsite. Electric only, a dump station is a few miles away at the ranger station, water spigots are scattered throughout the campground. Beautiful scenery! Fairly heavily wooded area. Beware, the roads in the campground are tight and fairly steep at places, but manageable. Our site E-16 had a great view of the lake! Drawback of this particular site was it is crazy un level. 2 packs of leveling blocks plus some spare wood needed to level our 30 ft trailer. Most sites are fairly level, but be prepared. Quiet campground, moderate ranger presence so no issues! Spotty cell service with T-mobile. We will definitely be back! We camped at Eagle Campground at Carter Lake in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The reservoir is the major attraction here! Boat ramps are spacious and well maintained. Rentals available. Marina store well stocked with a snack bar and patio overlooking the lake.

I am giving this park a negative review based on the first campground loop; we did not try the other loops. The positives - the hosts were friendly, the lake was beautiful and the marina store was great. They cleaned out your fire pit every morning, which was a nice touch. The negatives, and why we won't stay here again: the roads were in horrible condition, all dirt, just one giant pothole. That was the easy part of getting in! The entrance to the first campsite loop is up a hill, on a tight turn, flanked by trees and a side slope - all on loose gravel. We made it intact - barely, thanks to 4WD on our tow vehicle. Others weren't as lucky, as both trees on each side of the slope were completely gouged out by vehicles. Then we made it to our campsite. Not only was it incredibly unlevel, it was on a dirt/gravel mix that made it impossible to get traction. Even with 4WD enabled, we were still spinning our tires. We couldn't get the trailer on leveling blocks because the gravel would shoot them out. And we weren't the only ones, all through the park you could hear tires spinning on gravel as people returned to their campsites. In addition, the grass was not mowed and we saw numerous snakes at our camper, along with dead ones on the road. I would only camp here if you choose your site in person ahead of time and verify that you can enter and exit safely and that the site is indeed level. We did see some sites better than ours that were occupied. We camped at Eagle Campground at Carter Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

There are multiple campgrounds around Carter Lake. I stayed 1 night at the Eagle CG at the north end but had zero Verizon service even with a booster. Sites in Eagle can be challenging to get your rig level. I need 3 levels of leveling blocks and still wasn't quite level. Moved to the South Shore CG. I found a few sites where I could get a couple of bars of LTE on Verizon but only with a Wilson 4G booster. S27 and the adjacent sites had a signal. Park was busy on Sunday but pretty quite for the next 3 days. We camped at Eagle Campground at Carter Lake in a Travel Trailer.

We've camped at this campground a couple of times and it is one of our favorites. Great lake views and plenty of pine trees. Spot was fairly level and there's good separation between spots. There is a new bathroom with flush toilets and pay showers within this campground. Marina and store are right across the highway, unfortunately the highway can get loud at times, but not unbearable. Dump station is quite a drive down the hill. If you're considering this campground, or Flatiron or Horsetooth, the yearly county pass might be worth the money instead of the $7/day fee that is extra above the camping nightly fee. We camped at Eagle Campground at Carter Lake in a Travel Trailer.

Very odd campground. This is a public campground operated by Larimer County. Beautiful view of Carter Lake from our campsite. It appears no ground keeping is performed within the campground. The grass was several feet tall. The gravel sites were washed out. It was a challenge access the pull through site in our 40' motorhome. No shower houses. The fresh water and dump station were 5 miles away at one of the park entrances. I didn't use it but I think you had to feed quarters into a machine for fresh water. Very nice privately operated marina across the street. A lovely 30 minute drive to Rocky Mountain National Park. Except for the availability of electricity, I would consider this a primitive campground. $20.00 a night was not bad, but the county also charges $7.00/day for you tow vehicle. We camped at Eagle Campground at Carter Lake in a Motorhome.
