We stayed at this park as the RV campgrounds in Estes Park were not open at this time of year. This is a very small reservoir with a nice camping area surrounding the water. At our pull through site the electric tower was on the wrong side of our coach necessitating running the hook up under the trailer. While this was inconvenient it did allow us to have a view through our larger side windows to the lake. We had a covered picnic table and a fire pit in a large area. It appears that the one way road entrance was changed without regard to electric hookups. There is no sewer dump at the park and the closest is at the South entrance which was about 20 minutes from the park past Carter Lake. There is one potable water faucet which did have threaded if needed to fill up, however it was very close to a site and would necessitate parking in the road to use. The park was completely full on the week-end and the spaces were all reserved. There are pit toilets available which were clean at this time of the year, however we did not see anyone stocking or cleaning the bathrooms and there appears to be no Park host. During our stay we had considerable rain and the roads and site were fairly muddy. The lake is too small for motorized boats but we did see people using kayaks and fishing. We had OTA television stations, but Verizon service was spotty and limited. There was no AT&T service. There is no designated dog area so walking was limited to the park road area and down near the shore of the lake. We would stay in this park again if we were in the area. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Loveland is a 20 minute drive and had a charming historic downtown as well as many chain groceries, restaurants and fuel stations. Highway 34 is closed until 2019 so access to Rocky Mountain National Park is up Highway 36 and takes about an hour and 15 minutes. The quicker access to Rocky Mountain National Park was to take the County Road past Carter Lake rather than going into Loveland and picking up the 36 that way.

We were impressed with the staff when we checked in and even tho we didn't have a reservation, we were able to get a space. The area was clean and beautiful. We did notice that people didn't clean up after their dogs and that might be something to add to the regulations booklet. When we decided to stay an extra day, the person on duty that Sunday morning (March 19th) was "extra" pleasant and helpful to us and to the other campers that were checking in. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There was a nice little pier at the campground to fish from and a volleyball net set up. If you had stakes and horseshoes with you, there is room to play. The brochure mentioned there is a horseshoe pit but we didn't see one. It was nice having a campfire in the pit provided. Bring your wood!

Dog feces is a problem since no one seems to pick up. Sites are very unlevel and rutted.

My site was facing the wrong way and I had to disconnect everything and turn around to leave because sometime since it was built the roadway has become one way. Extremely bad sites. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We paid $26.50 per night when reserved. When we arrived we learned that we needed a Larimer County Access pass to camp. Rates are $6 per night, $80 yearly, or as we did, bought a senior rate yearly pass for $35. So our 6 day stay cost was $32 per night. Site # F18 was right on the water and is large and scenic. Electric only. There is no water, sewer, and no dump. Showers are available at Carter Lake CG 5 miles away for $2.00 for 6 minutes. They have a token machine that is cash only. No Verizon service available for our phone or data. The site and view were nice, but the lack of amenities lowered our rating. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Very nice campground that is fairly quiet compared to its Larimer County neighboring campgrounds (Carter, Horsetooth). Most of the noise comes from the many geese that call this home, and there is some road noise from the nearby highway. Elk and deer are usually fairly numerous here as well. Cell/TV reception is minimal. In early or late season it's very likely you'll have this entire campground to yourself. The dump station is the one on the other side of Carter Lake, so it's an even further drive to get to. Fishing is about the only activity allowed on the reservoir, and the fish do often jump out of the lake. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We camped here last year during Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed the campground. As stated previously, since it is close to Loveland, the local folks like to come here during holiday weekends and use the campground's picnic facilities. However, at our campsite which was located right in front of the lake, this did not bother us. Some campsites are larger than others but all have very nice tables and fire rings. I have to say the vaulted toilets should've been kept cleaner! All in all: we really enjoyed this campground and have made 2 more reservations for this coming summer to stay here. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Tent Trailer.

This is part of Larimer County Parks, so online reservations are available. We had a pull through spot that overlooked the lake. The spot was level with a nice table and fire ring. Unfortunately, since it is a public park, you get people who aren't concerned with personal space. We had a constant stream of kids walking through our camp, and one family set their chairs down and tied their dogs up directly in front of our spot. The spots on either side of us were empty. There was some noise in the late night, but not too bad. We saw large herds of elk from our site, so that was a treat to watch them cross the hillside. We will return. Overall Rating:

We utilized the online reservation system, which is a good idea - this easy-going, pleasant but not fancy park is popular with the locals due to its easy access. We found our own way to our numbered site. The host was never in evidence this weekend. Our pull-through site was fairly level, dirt and gravel, electric only, had some shade, a permanent grill and its own picnic shelter with roof. Our site close to the bathroom resulted in a lot of foot traffic by us. There is also a lot of auto traffic as many drive to the bathroom, and sites are quite close to the road, so be prepared for dust and noise. The bathroom facilities are small for the volume of use and therefore run out of toilet paper and are not very clean. No showers. Thank goodness for having our own facilities in the MH. Fresh water only in the frost free taps by the bathroom and a couple other spots in the campground, or at entrance to county park. Most people's dogs are well-behaved, but not the ones tied out in the sun by some tent campers. There is lots of fishing in the stocked lake. Verizon signal very iffy, and we could get one local TV station on our batwing due to the surrounding high hills. Free dump on the way out by the ranger station. Cost is daily site rate plus daily county park pass entrance fee per vehicle. We have camped here before and will again due to the convenience of close location. We camped at Flatiron Reservoir in a Motorhome.
