New owners took over this park in July but you can see that they have a vision. A 1/2 acre dog park has been put in place along with some new trees and shrubs. 2 nice playgrounds, a pool, and 2 hot tubs. The entrance to the park looks a mess because the dog park is on the road front. The tractor tires and other apparatus for the dogs is not immediately obvious so one thinks its a junkyard. The dog loved the space however. Maybe a few screening shrubs could make the entrance more appealing. Speaking of dogs, leash rules need to be enforced. Our neighbor, who looks long term, left their dog off the leash whenever it was outside. Not appreciated when our poor dog is always on a leash for her safety. Saw a dog pile not picked up - I wonder whose it was? :( As for our site, it was in the open so good satellite access. New load of gravel has been spread so it's nice a thick even outside your door. There are several sites with trees if you want one. Some sites have fire rings or they have portable ones if you ask. Great view of a butte in Mesa Verde National Park which is just across the highway. Easy access for sure. While the whole cg feels a little messy right now, the new owners are very friendly and beginning work to improve it. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Motorhome.

In Cortez, there is a BLM Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and Museum. Takes about an hour for the museum. They have hiking and tours available but it was cold and rainy the day we were there.

We appreciate the feedback. We agree that the dog park could use some sprucing up. At the moment it's a work in progress, as it was devoid of any equipment when we first took over. While shrubbery would improve it's appearance greatly, we have been in an extreme drought, and it seemed more responsible to allow the plant life in that area to deteriorate. However, water allowing, we will landscape in an effort to improve it's ascetic. In response to the leash issue, we also see this. We constantly remind guests, and will improve signage to inform those unaware of this safety issue. Thank you for staying with us, as we look forward to serving you again.

Info for our site: Sites were level, made up of gravel, stones and loose ground/dirt. BBQ pit was a metal ring with hinged grill unseated in the ground and appeared to be tossed around and left uncompleted. Picnic table was old and wobbly. WiFi on and off for the few days we stayed. No help from office. Antenna picked up a few channels... need to point East, office had no idea. AT&T and Verizon cell phones just barely received 3g or 1 bar, very week signal. Close to park entrance. Garbage Container close by. NO RECYCLING Water Pressure OK Water smell or taste was noticed...drank with coffee and used daily for dishes and shower. 30 AMP / 50 AMP appeared new. Sewage Pipe appeared new. Spaces between sites were nice. Trees for shade were available for smaller RVs. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Motorhome.

Thank you for your review. As we are currently improving sites, some may appear unkempt as we refine the park. That site in particular had recently been converted for full hookup to provide privacy for full service rigs.
Neither the town of Cortez nor Mancos provides a dedicated recycling service, however, our landfills are sort-type, and do separate garbage from recyclable materials.
We noticed the change in water quality and inquired with the city; they had recently purged lines after replacing parts of the system.
Regarding the internet, the park has a recently updated system with boosters that carry signal from 3 towers into the interior of the park, but has reasonable bandwidth. As a result, the system has a protection in it that limits any excessive use, i.e. streaming video, downloading copious images, etc.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We will continue improve some issues. We look forward to having you as a guest in the future.

Site on the upper level so it was a walk to the showers. Nice pool and hot tub but they were closed for the season even though it was 90 degrees. Huge rec room. Located at the turnoff for Mesa Verde NP so if you're coming from the east don't trust your gps as it will have you turning off 5 miles too soon. I have a Garmin gps and when coming from the east you pass thru Mancos where mine had me turn off on the Frontage Rd. At the Mesa Verde np exit, Ancient Cedars CG is also on a Frontage Rd. GPS can lead you astray. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice enough park with gravel sites separated by a fence on the upper level. The electric & water are good. They have a rec center, laundry, pool and hot tubs, mini golf and a large fenced dog park. The dog park is larger than any I have seen in other parks. Could not get any internet service on my Jetpack on the upper level but they do offer good WiFi, but can't use it a lot. TV Antenna stations were great - got about 100 from as far as Salt Lake City, Utah. There must be a repeater somewhere for us to get so many stations. I did walk across the side road into the woods and around the area to take the dogs for a walk. I did not let them loose though since we were so close to civilization. Park is located on the frontage road exit which is the same as the National Park. GPS does not say that. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is the worst experience we have ever had at a campground. We travel in a 2016 37' Allegro. We were given a "big rig" site which would not accommodate our motorhome and tow. The rest room for the "big rig" sites is basically an outhouse with a flush toilet. It is a 4 x 4 shed with no air conditioning. When I used in 95 degree heat I thought I would pass out. The WiFi does not work and there is little or no cell phone reception. The owners are the rudest I have ever encountered in our years of RVing. Don't waste your money on this park. We are sorry you were displeased with your 70 ft long site on the end row, with views for $38.50 with discounts, taxes and 50 amp. We tried to be civil with you as you were asked to leave after 5 complaints of your continuous barking dogs, and no remorse for the disturbance to the other campers. We didn't even make a big deal for your dogs refuse when our work camper asked if you needed a bag, you said you said you did not need one, leaving the work camper to clean it up for you. Happy Camping!!!

We stayed at this rv park because it was right outside of the Mesa Verde National Park. We needed full hook up and the National Park Campground only had dry camping available on Memorial Day Weekend. The park was nice, had great view of the mountains. Showers and restrooms were quite far away from our campsite. The Hot Tub was very refreshing. Cell service for both Verizon and ATT was non existent. If we were lucky we could only get text messages. If you need full hook up and are visiting Mesa Verde NP this is the campsite for you! We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I hate to post this review because I don't want everyone to swarm it. This place is awesome, The owner is the nicest person you'll probably ever meet. She bent over backwards to fit us in and accommodate us. The park has the best 1/2 acre dog park that I've seen. It has a swimming pool, mini golf, horse riding and a hot tub. The Wifi isn't that great but, you're camping, so unplug and don't worry about that. We were in a 5th wheel in the back section. This is a nice rustic park across the street from Mesa Verde NP. Loved it and will go back. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Management is friendly and helpful at this small park catering to area tourists. Tourism drives bookings, so be prepared for crowded conditions, higher prices during the summer season and tent campers. This all said, during the summer tourist season, having reservations at ANY AREA RV Park may be an advantage. Here are some of the things we liked: A pleasing view, proximity to Mesa Verde National Park, on-site propane sales for chilly mornings, good-tasting water, nearby dumpster serviced frequently, International Dark Sky light restrictions (stunning views of firmament). Here's what we didn't like: Crowded sites, tent camping allowed, variable to low water pressure, no trees in the pull through site area, no working Wi-Fi despite 3 park constructed Wi-Fi towers (personal Verizon only worked in the morning hours), doubling of prices during summer (monthly rate of $541 went to $1,000) and no inside seating at laundry facility. Absolutely beautiful park. Not big, but it's not the size that counts, just big enough to be welcoming. The view is amazing of Mesa Verde, which is literally right across the highway. Quiet day and night. Hosts were wonderful, helped us out with a longer stay and all very friendly. They all treated us like old friends. The number one draw of this RV Park is that it's directly across the highway from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park - with the view of the mesa. I was in a new section of "big rig" sites. Unfortunately, they squished too many of them together in the "sardines in a can" fashion. The older back-in sites seemed to have more room. If they had just done one less site in the row, they would have been perfect. Oh well. Otherwise, lots of good things about this park besides the view. Seasonal pool, community "patio" with the perfect view of the mesa, very nice staff, easy on/off Hwy 160, close to Cortez for a quick run in to get dinner, groceries, etc. Despite the drawbacks of too close proximity in the Big Rig sites, I would stay here again for the convenience of Mesa Verde. Stayed 3 nights in our 36' MH. Typical Western Campground, clean, nice sites, good wifi, located at the entrance to Mesa Verde NP. We were repeat customers and brought friends this time. Upon arrival, with reservations, we discovered that their website announced an "October stay 2 nights, get third free" special. When we questioned why we were being charged for 3 nights we were told it was an "online special". Then we were told, no, they would have given the special if we had known to ask for it; that it was up to us to know about the discount when placing our reservation. We were told "it is called good marketing" and "buyer beware". Eventually the Park's Management reconsidered their refusal to honor the "October Special" posted on their website, but we are still not pleased that we had to "get ugly" during the conversations. Nice campground, well placed but; their marketing just cost them a repeat customer. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nice, quiet, well-managed campground. We camped here in a fifth wheel and stayed in the "big rig" section. The sites were sufficiently long and level. However, they were so narrow that the adjacent sewer connection was next to our picnic table. The laundry was clean. The "resort" tag fits this park as there is a pool, hot tubs, a grill deck, and miniature golf course. We didn't use any due to the lateness in the season. The views from the campground are great. This campground is located just across the 160 highway from Mesa Verde National Park. The digital TV service worked well; there are lots of TV stations to choose from. The park's wi-fi service was poor. The park is located so far out of town that Version data service was very poor. So we had virtually no internet access. If visiting this area in the future, we'd seriously consider a park closer to the town of Cortez where Verizon data service is better. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Location. Location. Location. Ancient Cedars is directly across from the Mesa Verde NP Visitors Center, and the NP is one where you may have to drive an hour further than the entrance to get to where you want to go. Ancient Cedars was quiet, with the amenities placed toward the front to keep down road noise. It has a turn off lights policy that improves viewing the stars and everything is clean. Some sites are close and some don't have much tree cover. But other sites have more breathing room. We had trees and we had to back in carefully to open our slide. The owner does a good job of quizzing about RV length and number of slides to be sure you will fit your site. He was also helpful in confirming that our water pump was indeed dead. The sewer connection was positioned toward the front of the site, which was not useful for our unit. There is a horse pasture adjacent and a faint whiff of horse, but nothing overwhelming and the horses are fun to watch. Our site was near the back of the park, but we didn't mind the walk to the front to use showers--and did I mention they were clean? Two playgrounds with picnic tables. Those with kidsters will enjoy chilling out while the little ones wear themselves out. As an RVer, we love the comfort of sleeping in our own bed each night. Equally comforting is discovering Ancient Cedars, a park we will come back to next time we are in the area. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
