Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

$23 rate includes $7 daily park fee (you can have this waived with $70 annual pass). All sites at this time of year are first-come first-served. The weather was still quite warm for October (though chilly evenings) and the autumn colors are breathtaking on the La Platas! The entire campground is still open but will be closing the west side and half of the main campground once it starts to snow - the campground stays open year-round. It's basic dry-camping so a generator is needed. There is a dump station and water spigots close enough to the road that you can refill your tanks if you need them. The vault toilets are well kept and campsites are clean. Only the main campground has sites long enough to fit an RV, the west campground is mainly for tiny trailers and tents. All sites have a picnic table and fire pit, and they sell large bundles of firewood for $5. All the sites are under tree cover, away from the lake so there's not much of a view. Sites are well-spaced and lots of tall brush that makes it feel very private. There are a few pull thru's but mostly back-ins. The lake is kept stocked with rainbow trout. There are also 2 heated yurts that can be reserved. It's a nice well-maintained state park that seems very quiet in the off-season, except for all the wildlife you can hear in the evenings! I work online so Verizon service is critical for me - I was able to get steady LTE data at 30% signal strength on the mifi and voice signal was good too. We camped at Mancos State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Mesa Verde National Park entrance is about 15 minutes away. The small town of Mancos has some surprisingly good places to eat, like Mancos Pizza next to the grocery store - you can buy by the slice and it's one of the best I've ever had! They also make some tasty hot sandwiches. We also tried Chavolo's mexican and they had some great authentic choices like barbecue, carnitas, and pastor.

Date of Stay: July, 2010 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Nice Colorado State Park with 25 sites. No utilities, but has dump station. Small fishing lake within a short walk of campground. Heavily wooded, well spaced and private sites. No problem for our 38' fifth wheel. About 9 miles from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park. Good AT&T cell service and Verizon internet. A bit of work to find an open 'hole' in the woods for our direct TV but got it to work. Rarely saw camp hosts, but park personnel through park quite often. Saw deer in camp. 3 water spigots located throughout campground but are far from most sites, bring long hoses to add water to tanks. Pit toilets were clean. No showers. Great price for a nice camp spot, great location. 7,000 ft elevation, warm days, cool nights. Campfires allowed. We camped at Mancos State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
