This is an excellent location to camp. It is a little ways off Highway 160 up highway 150. But you can see the sand dunes of the Great Sand Dunes National Park from the campground. You are against the Sangre Decristo Mountains to the East and the San Juan Mountains are to the West across the San Luis Valley. This campground can handle big campers. The campground in the Great Sand Dunes is not suitable for anything but small trailers, smaller class C, B and tent camping. There is a store and restaurant on site. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Shopping will be in Alamosa. We did not go to Mosca, so I don't know what is there. The camp ground store rents boards to slide down the dunes on.

The RV campground is parking lot style on dirt. The real attraction is its proximity to Great Sand Dunes National Park. It is located within a couple of miles of the visitor center. All other RV options for access to the Park are 20-30 miles away. The Sand Dunes are visible from the RV sites. There is also a lodge, some cabins, and lots of tent sites. The bathrooms are surprisingly updated given the run down state of the remainder of the facilities, including the signage. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is the only full service park near Great Sand Dunes National Park. The RV area is located on a terraced area between the store and the lodge. The narrow pull through sites are placed on hard packed dirt and gravel base and were mostly level. There are no trees Utility tower was rear coach with the sewer port placed next to the neighbor's picnic table. We had site 1 which had a great view of the sand dunes from our side window. The other sites would not have a view unless you had a front window. Verizon data and mobile service was erratic and there is no internet access provided except to lodge patrons. There is no cable or OTA television. The areas bordering the sites and access road had trash and rubbish all over. Dog walking was limited to the access road. Laundry room was convenient, clean and reasonable at $1.25/load. We would stay here again as it was 5 minutes into the Park. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The National park was small but interesting. You can walk leased dogs in the Dunes area. Zapata Crrek and waterfall was a fun hike of you don't mind hiking up the creek into a canyon to view the waterfall.

This was the last park we stayed at on our Colorado adventure. The best thing about the campground is it is very close to Great Sand Dunes, which is very remote. It was a decent campground though sites were close. There was not much of a dog walk area But the dogs did fine with what was available. During our stay a wind storm unexpectedly came up and the staff was very helpful in dealing with it. What the park lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in location. For that alone we would stay here again and can recommend the park. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We had anticipated staying one more night to see everything at Great Sand Dunes but did not. The dunes are fascinating but the park is fairly small unless you plan to do the road that requires 4 wheel drive. Please note we are your average retirees and hike a bit. If you are an avid hiker or biker this park may require more than one day to see. We felt one day was adequate. Just a thought...

Small RV campground that was easy to get to but a little tricky to park in your spot. It is a lot easier to back into your pull-through site if you have a long motorhome. Utilities worked well but no cable or OTA TV channels. There is also no Wi-Fi but we had a pretty strong Verizon connection. Roads are all dirt and they have a store and restaurant onsite. It is located very near the National Park. We would stay here again. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great location for visiting Great Sand Dunes NP if you need hookups. Otherwise, this is a place to avoid. Sites are in a row in front of the bathrooms, and are narrow enough that picnic table and fire pit need to be moved in front of your RV to be usable. Roads are rough rock, sites are bare dirt. Our reserved site had a blocked sewer connection, which wasn't evident until attempting to dump the full black-water tank that we arrived with, causing effluent to spill over the site. Waited a half hour for the manager to appear, and explain that "gosh our snake broke 3 days ago and we can't fix it so move to another site". Our stay was discounted 50% however. Water pressure is very low... taking a shower was a challenge. There is no management or maintenance presence monitoring the sites... our site neighbors (two pick-ups, a trailer, pavilion and tent) arrived at 6:30am and were noisy setting up camp. Then left half-eaten dinner all over their site overnight. I saw several vehicles enter unoccupied sites during morning hours, to fill their water tanks then leave. There are some acceptable RV parks in Alamosa and although they are a 40-minute drive from the GSD NP, I would recommend them over this place. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Alamosa has a nice farmers market on Saturdays. Just east of town, the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge is a great stop for birders - the extensive wetlands in San Luis Valley were a surprise to us. I cannot recommend the on-site restaurant at the RV park, but there are no other nearby choices if you want to eat out.

We only stayed at Oasis for one night because our favorite spot (San Luis) has become exorbitantly expensive for those of us from out of state. The sites at Oasis are incredibly crowded. While they do provide full hookups and close proximity to the National Park, I would rather save money ($46+ with taxes and fees) and stay somewhere else less crowded. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The views from the site are beautiful. It is right by the entrance of the Great Sand Dune NP. This is an older park and it shows. The sites are close together. The interior roads are gravel and very rough. The staff is friendly and helpful. Electric is good but water pressure is poor. There is no WiFi or Cable but Verizon is good and we had no problem with satellite. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A small campground at the hot spring pool. This campground is good but the focus is the hot spring pool. Lots are very close to each other and offer some shade. Site surface is sand and features a fire ring and picnic table.

Be sure to pull into left side of sites, and then loop back into your site. Sites are at an odd angle but if you go to the left it dead ends and you will have to back up.

When camping you get pool discount. Pool is very popular with families, but they have an adult section with a very lounge like feel. I would highly recommend to upgrade if you are not a big kid person. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.

Great view of the sand dunes and close to park. My 40' MH would not have fit in the National Park rv sites. The road to the sites was not just gravel but rocky and rough. We could not pull into our site so unhooked toad and backed in to our pull through site. The FHUs were fine but no wifi. We did not look at their restrooms, showers or laundry because we have our own. The empty site next to ours was littered with big mounds of dog poop. All RV owners should be responsible enough to pick up after their dogs or they should not come to RV parks. RV Park owners should clean up after RVs leave a site. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a pretty basic campground with RV parked in one long row. The night before we arrived there was a huge rainstorm which caused a washout of the hill above some of the RV spots. To their credit, they wasted no time in getting heavy equipment in to clean and repair. The spot we were in was on the end so we had an unimpeded view of the dunes. It was beautiful. The road to the RV spots is dirt and is pretty rough. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stopped there for one night. It is the campground with full hookups closest to Great Sand Dunes National Park. All site are narrow pull-thrus. From the campground there is a beautiful view of the dunes and the surrounding mountains. Site 1 has an unobstructed view. Good place to stop for one night to visit the park. Best part of this park is the location with great views of the Sand Dunes. The entry road for the pull-through sites is very bumpy with washboard gravel, fairly narrow and close to the back of the sites. With my 40' motorhome, it was easier to go around to the front of the site and back in. The area is gravel and sand and with the winds, expect some blowing sand and debris. The trees are still small and don't provide much shade. The office has a gift shop and restaurant. They also rent sand boards and sleds to use at the National Park. All in all, this is a good place to stay if you are visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park. The only discount is for military: active, retired or a veteran. Nice to have full hookup site so close to the Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Camp store rents sand boards by the day. Friendly staff. Mosquitoes were bad but were worse at the Great Sand Dunes National Park itself. Great view of the dunes at GSDNP.

Stayed here after visiting the dunes. It was off-season and the water to the sites had not been turned on yet. Price reflects $5.00 off for no water, but charged additional $2.50 for each additional person over 2 occupants. The sites are clean and level. I know it was off-season, but wish the dumpster had been closer to the campground area for easier drop-off. There were only 2 other campers, so we were able to select any site we wanted. Has great views of the dunes from many of the sites. We camped at Great Sand Dunes Oasis RV Park in a Motorhome.
