Up a some what steep dirt road that needed grading, this campground sits among a lot of downed trees. Many sites are unprotected from wind that blows through here almost daily. Most fire rings are older style, but most sites have a charcoal grill too. Nearby lake was extremely busy over the weekend as there is a day use area near by. While we stayed in site 8, we liked site 10 much better for the limited privacy it affords. Camp host woke us early one morning yelling at another camper, fellow seemed to pay very close attention to the goings on - maybe a little too much. Doubt we will return to this CG. We did like Red Feather Lakes for it's village charm. We camped at Bellaire Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Catch the gnome lane in Red Feather Lakes. Locals and visitors have placed all sorts of gnomes and other small items along this road. These are the guardians of the animals of the forest. Locals can tell you where it is and I would suggest walking the road for best viewing.

Price paid reflects Senior Pass. This park is a hidden gem! Yes, it was damaged by winds in 2013 and there are a lot of trees down in the lower loop making it unusable/closed. The remaining sites are all really nice, as USFS campgrounds go. Trees that were damaged have, for the most part been cut down and removed. It's a lot more open than it used to be, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There's plenty of space between sites, and a good mix of back in and pull thru sites. All have electricity, which was unexpected. Vault toilets in several locations. Easy access to Bellaire Lake itself, which is beautiful! Lots of folks come there for the fishing, which, from conversations with folks fishing, can be a mixed bag...some days good/some days not so good. One can easily hike around the lake. This CG is a good alternative to West and Dowdy Lakes that are closer to Red Feather. It's about 5 miles south of the main/paved road, and is dirt road access, but not a problem. There's also hiking trail access nearby. We camped at Bellaire Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Most importantly to note -- fill your tanks before you come to this park. There are water faucets at the bathrooms, but they are NOT threaded to allow you to fill with a garden hose. Road #69 is dirt. The south end is very, very steep & crooked. The camp host was very nice & helpful. Price reflects senior pass. We camped at Bellaire Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
