Park is about 10 miles from the interstate. The last 5-6 miles of the road are slightly narrow with a few curves but doable in motor home. A couple of sections of the roads inside the park are narrow for two way traffic but they are well marked. The sites are very large and level and parking is very easy. Good price for full hookups. The rate does not reflect the $10.00 reservation fee and the daily park entrance fee. We are staying several nights at Colorado State Parks so we purchased the annual pass for $70.00. This pass went on the motor home. Our tow vehicle was free as long as the vehicle is towed into the park at check in. You will receive a tow vehicle pass. We stayed here in a 40 foot motor home. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Live music jam sessions on Saturday nights. Good location to visit Rifle Falls, fish hatchery and Glenwood Springs. Good location for a day trip to Aspen and visit to Maroon Bells. We rode a portion of the Glenwood Canyon bike trail, parked at the rest area at mile marker 121 and biked east along the Colorado River. Nice ride. Trailhead parking in Glenwood Springs was limited.

Overall Rating:

Rifle Gap State Park / reservoir is approximately 15 minutes north of the town of Rifle, Colorado. The Lakeview Loop is the only FHU loop at the campground and appears to be the newest, built within the last 10 years or so. Main interior roads are well paved as is the Lakeview Loop. The other, older loops, are gravel roads with electric or no hookups. A large variety to choose from! Our site, #014, was VERY level and has a good view of the reservoir. Asphalt road with a concrete pad and gravel patio space much in the fashion of other state parks. No issues with electric, sewer or water. Some previous posts complained of low water pressure when the campground is full, but we had no issues whatsoever! The main draw of the campground is the reservoir. Rifle Gap reservoir is an irrigation reservoir and water level was down 28 feet during our stay. The long, narrow reservoir is a great place for water skiing and boat traffic was very low despite the weekend. Boat ramps were long and wide, but there is no marina or store. Cell service was spotty, but we did have 4g with T-Mobile at our site. It did get very hot during our stay (102+) with some wind at night. Not much in the way of trees anywhere. Camp hosts were wonderful and friendly! We will be back! We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The main draw is of course the reservoir and water activities. But Glenwood Springs is only 30 minutes away! The town of Rifle is small, with only a few touristy shops. here is a City Market and Walmart for supplies. A MUST SEE is Rifle Falls just 10 minutes north of Rifle Gap! Amazing waterfalls and campground! (See our review)

A wonderful campground in almost all ways. Very large site, excellent hookups. Lots of space to walk. Downside--no cell service so we had no phone or internet contact. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Travel Trailer.

Easy access and maneuvering within park for 45' MH. Little to no shade. If reserving a site, use Google Earth to determine which sites have covered picnic tables (not sure why some sites have covered tables and others don't, but with lack of shade trees, you will appreciate the cover). Water pressure is real low, so simply fill your fresh water tank and run off your water pump. Host informed me they use a RO system (so water is good quality) but use 3 lift pumps to get the water to the Lakeview campground and struggle to maintain pressure, especially if the campground is full. Our Rand McNally GPS took us to the Rifle Correctional Facility instead of the campground. Follow the signs to the Visitor Center (no signs for 'campground') and you will be fine, as you check in at the visitor center. If crossing the dam, you will go over short 1 lane bridge marked 20 ton weight limit. Our 26 ton MH was fine, so don't worry. Interior roads are asphalt and pads are concrete. Everything was well maintained. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Motorhome.

Another beautiful Colorado State Park. Park is an easy drive from Rifle. Wi-Fi access ends about a quarter mile from the Rifle Gap dam. Pick your site carefully if you want a lake view from your site. The road to the CGs are narrow but the road within the CGs are wide. Sites are well maintained and clean. All utilities worked fine. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Travel Trailer.

We stopped here for a quick overnight and fell in love with this state park. To be clear, it's a ways off of I-70. To get to it requires traveling a windy and sometimes narrow road with some very sharp turns. It makes for some interesting times in a 40' class A motorhome. But the drive is worth it!!!

The park is one of the nicest state parks we've ever camped in. Check in was a breeze. The site itself was a pull through and the pad was concrete. The utility hookup was very clean with all the utilities either in a concrete box or in very clean and raked gravel.

The picnic table is covered by a small pavilion which is located on a gravel pad. I was amazed that even the gravel pad had been raked prior to our arrival.

The only reason that this park is not rated a "10" is because there is no shade. Still, this is an absolutely beautiful park located on the lake. I'll be back. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Motorhome.

Beautiful area, only about 5 or 6 miles from town. Campsites were large, not close together, many with beautiful views of the surrounding area or of the lake. Peaceful, relaxing area, clean, very well-kept. Restrooms were clean, well maintained; and showers are available with "quarters", but plenty of change machines available. Electric, sewer, and water hook ups all worked fine, but water wasn't very drinkable. We had plenty of bottled water, so it wasn't a problem. Also, note that we couldn't get any cell phone reception with AT&T, but we could drive 3 or so miles back into town and get reception just fine. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground has wonderful flat, blacktop sites. We had full hookups. Very nice, seemingly new and clean restrooms. Only drawback is that there is no shade in this campground. The only shade available is in the tent only campground sites. We paid $21 with CO Aspen Leaf Pass (Senior). This would rate a 10 if there were shaded sites. Our site did have a shelter over the picnic table. If boating and fishing are what you are looking for, check this park out in the cooler months. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Fifth Wheel.

Open space campground on hill overlooking reservoir, mixture of pull through and back-in sites. Sites have level concrete pads and covered picnic tables. No cell phone coverage. Pretty views, lots of humming birds. Quiet. Would stay again. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Motorhome.

Ignore the GPS and take the Rifle Exit from I-70 to get to the park. Nice big pull through sites with concrete pads and good utility placement. Good views of the lake. Lake view sites are on the hill and the section is tiered, making biking a challenge. Lots of walking available. No shade. It was around 100 while we were there. Direct sun makes things uncomfortable. Don't count on over the air TV, phone service or internet. It's too far away from town and is surrounded by canyon walls. Lake was very low this year, but lots of boating anyway. Nice boat launch in the park. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Fifth Wheel.

Very Nice park! I would stay here more often if they had better cell service. I tried getting a booster added to my RV and truck. People there where very helpful and nice and knowledgeable about the area. I would recommenced this park but don't expect your cell phone to work. We stayed in the new full hookups section. It was very nice. The two downsides were the pay showers and the walk to the lake. There other campsite loops right on the water. This one was further. It's the only one with full hookups though. Aside from the $22 a night rate, you have to pay $6 a day entry fee. If you want to be by the water there are other good campsites. This is pretty good if you want full hookups though. We would stay again. We camped at Rifle Gap State Park - Lakeview Loop in a Travel Trailer.
