This is a really fun National Forest Service (NFS) campground. It has recently been refurbished and has sites to accommodate rigs up to 60 feet. At this time it does not take reservations but I had no problem finding a site on a Sunday afternoon in August. The campground was only a third filled. This campground has been closed for several years for dead tree removal and then for renovation. Like many other NFS parks in CO the record cold winter of 2013 destroyed its water pipes. Who knows when they will be repaired so bring your own water. This is a great place to overnight especially if you have Golden Age Pass. It is only 1 1/2 miles off Hwy 160 on a good wide road. There is no traffic noise. Some sites are shaded, but it is best to bring your own shade. Activities are fishing, boating and hiking. In August the campground was covered in wild flowers. Sites are very large. There are 3 loops. A loop is on the lake and is the most popular but also has the smallest sites and the least privacy. C loop is the farthest from the lake, but offers the largest sites and the most privacy. I loved this place and will be back with my trailer in 2014. We camped at Big Meadows Campground in a Tent.

This campground is still closed until the summer season of 2013. We camped at Big Meadows Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a wonderful campground for boon docking. It is nestled in a grove of evergreen trees adjacent to the Big Meadows Reservoir, a beautiful stocked fishing lake. But, they are redoing the entire campground. That includes drilling a new water well. The site's water quality has always been a problem, and this year, campers had to go off-site to get water. Sadly, the the campground will be closed for the entire 2010 camping season while this makeover is in progress. You can still fish the reservoir and hike the area's trails. We camped at Big Meadows Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We have stayed at Big Meadows Campground twice and both times we really had beautiful private sites. Very nice place for taking evening walks and enjoying nature. We travel with children and this is one of their favorite spots. We will definitely go again in the future. there is a lake for fishing. We didn't catch any fish, but the kids enjoyed it anyway. We camped at Big Meadows Campground in a Motorhome.

Loved this place! We camped here three nights. There are no hookups, but the water faucets near the pit toitets can have hoses screwed onto them. This allows you to fill your water tanks before parking. The sites are heavily wooded and the camp elevation is over 9,000 feet. Sites include a picnic table and fire ring. Aspen firewood can be purchaesed from the camp manager. The sites are adjacent to Shaw Lake. It is pretty and stocked with rainbow trout. There are hiking/horse trails on both sides of the lake. We were only 3 miles from the highway and 7 miles from Southfork for shopping, restaurants and showers. Lots of wildlife. Fishing was great and we had a 10-point buck deer visit our site. This was boondocking at it's best! We camped at Big Meadows Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Spectacular setting, very spacious, great hosts. Some sites are are nearer the lake (#1-8). The rating takes into consideration that it is a U.S. Forest Service campground (dry camping). A beautiful drive from South Fork (12 miles SW), right along the Rio Grande. Setting includes waterfalls, lakes, tons of trees. Park is open from May 15 through September 15th. We camped at Big Meadows Campground in a Motorhome.
