River sites unavailable, but we had a pull through. Park was well kept and wifi was great. Quiet area as it is off the highway 160 and down by the river. Parked RR cars help screen the highway noise. Follow signs carefully as the entrance is between parked RR cars and the park is hidden. A nice rest stop is one mile east of the park if you wish to disconnect in advance, although not necessary. Staff was friendly and laundry room was reasonable and convenient. There is a grocery/RV supply/hardware store near the intersection of Highways 160 and 149. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visited Creede and the Batchelor Loop including the Last Chance Mine; Silver Thread Scenic Byway to Lake City (old ice cream parlor w/ good stuff) ; all of which had beautiful scenery. There are a number of forest service roads for driving (check whether 4 wheel drive is needed - Jeep and ATV rentals are available in town.)

We only rate overnight stops if they are really good and we would return for a longer period or are very poor and we are trying to save others from the same fate. THIS ONE WAS VERY GOOD. Wow, what a beautiful park on a running Colorado river. We saw rafters on the river and are told that this is quite a good fishing spot. The management team have been working the park for quite some time and treat it like it was their own. The park was just opening for the season so site selection was limited but we were very happy with the accommodations. Our site rating is lower only because we wanted a site with water and they only had water turned on for a few sites. Ours was really too small for us but we understood the reason. Sites are mostly dirt or gravel and well shaded which is what we like. There are about a dozen back-in sites right on the river. Sites 19, 40, and 42 were our favorite river sites that would accommodate at least a 40 foot RV. Approach to the campground is downhill around a rather tight left-hand turn. If you are a big rig with a towed vehicle be sure to disconnect before attempting to enter. We were fine with an F450 and 40 foot fifth wheel. The park is near the approach to Wolf Creek Pass and just on the edge of the National Forest. Truly a beautiful area if you like the outdoors. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed a night here on our way elsewhere. Wish we could have stayed longer. Nice, quiet park. Sites had plenty of room. Only downside was that the sewer connection was not placed in a way that was convenient for us with rear electrical on our rig. Starry night and by the river. Staff at check in was incredibly nice. Escort to site. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We make South Fork Campground a regular stop and have since 2011. It is nestled among the trees next to the Rio Grand River - which are gold meadow trout waters at this location. That means you can only keep brown trout over 13" with a two fish limit. There are monthly sites, pull through sites and riverfront sites. The riverfront sites are all on a nightly basis and, except for one site in the corner that has been reserved by the same family for decades, there is a two week limit on the riverfront sites. We love South Fork Campground because it is one of the few campgrounds that allows campfires. Other locations within the city limits are restricted. We also like the river flowing right behind the RV. It's quiet and shaded because of all the trees. Some of the sites put you pretty close to your neighbor and some require some experience to back into because of the trees. The hosts/managers are very friendly and helpful. The laundry room is our favorite of all the local campgrounds. There are six washers and four dryers and a folding table. Great place to stay. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Riverfront sites on the east side are easier to back in to. If using a pull through site, make the loop around to the left and pull in after making the circle.

We spent 2 nights in our 32 foot motor home, and had a river site. The park itself is fairly small, with private property on both sides. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Most of the sites are fairly small, as are most private campgrounds. We had campers on both sides of us, both friendly and enjoyed their company. Second night 2 couples came in to the 2 sites one over from us, and both allowed their dogs to run off leash. Management doesn't seem to notice or enforce the leash rule. Also be prepared if you have a river site, other campers will walk through your site to fish/play or just see the river. So don't expect privacy. We had 3 kids without supervision come through our site and fish and wade in the river. If you do camp there, be sure to visit site 13. He does some amazing woodworking. Walking sticks and chapels. One of a kind carvings! So this is a nice campground, if you have nice neighbors. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Motorhome.

We have a small trailer with no hook-ups and a tent (3 people). Restrooms were tiled (no linoleum!) and loved having the toilet stalls' doors open out. Very clean (restrooms and campground) and quiet. We stayed August 18th and August 20th. A person traveling with us forgot her PJs in the shower stall when we left after staying on the 18th. The owners had found them, folded them up and left them on the counter in the bathroom. The PJs were still there when we returned on the 20th. When we returned and asked about the clothing they said they thought they were ours. Very friendly owners. Will camp there again when the need arises. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Tent.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the DOT Rest Area about a mile east of the campground. You will find Culturally Modified Trees. Some of the trees are peeled, some are bent, some have burls. All very interesting. Management was very nice. Sites are pretty close together and even though we had a pull-thru, one of the turns to get to our site was pretty tight. There are some nice back-in sites next to the river, but they would definitely require some jockeying to get parked. Wifi never did work for us. We had a Verizon signal, which we boosted, and a strong but slow ATT signal. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at South Fork in a 30 ft. motorhome for one night. Good location on Rio Grande but only a few sites back on to it. The sites are very close together, and when we were there, it appeared many sites were long term stayers, a month or maybe longer.

The hosts are very helpful and friendly, facilities could do with a bit of modernization, and WiFi was intermittent, unless you sat near 'the shed'. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful riverfront site next to the Rio Grande River made this a perfect weekend stay. Everyday we saw deer, canadian snow geese, and ducks in the river or at the bank. With mature oak and cottonwood trees everywhere, nature was at our doorstep. The river sand and gravel sites have a fire ring, picnic table and plenty of room to spread out. Includes 50 amp, water and sewer. No Cable or local TV service. I did not test wifi. Verizon LTE works good. Bathrooms and laundry facility is modern and clean. A friendly staff made us feel right at home. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Campground is laid out strange. We had a river side site and to get there you needed to wander around the park. The roads are not well defined. Our campsite #40 was anything but level, and since it was a back in it took some attempts to get in the right site.

We booked for four nights, we had to leave early because of unforeseen reasons. We asked about a credit for our next visit, but they don't do that. I didn't expect a refund, but a credit would have been a good will gesture. I guess that they don't expect you to ever return. I will not disappoint them on that. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This park has some good points and bad points. South Fork is located just east of Wolf Creek Pass, a nice place to stop and rest. There is no over the air TV reception. There is good water pressure and electric. The Wi-Fi was mediocre, sometimes descent speed and other times just plain slow. All the spots were well shaded. The RV park is a few miles east of ‘downtown’ South Fork along US 160. With the park being 'down' from the highway, there is no traffic noise. The park has some nice quiet riverside sites, where you can sit and watch the Rio Grande flow south to Mexico. There is a rarely used railway line that runs along the highway, that makes for a nice dog walk. About 100 yards down the line, there are railway cars parked, but it makes for a nice walk outside of the park. The road leading in the other direction leads to a small number of streets with homes, that is also a nice walk. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed our stay at this park. Nothing fancy here except the beautiful river, but it's a very pleasant park. We only stayed three nights, but lots of the folks there stay a month or even the whole summer. No cable TV and no channels available via antennae, so unless you have a satellite dish the Internet is the only possibility; luckily the Wi-Fi is good most of the time. We will be back to stay here again. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The forest fire missed all of South Fork and the entire town and this RV park are open for business. This campground has some monthly sites available for about $15 per night. The bathroom and shower houses have been completely remodeled and are great. The park hosts are the nicest people. Evenings are cool and the daytime temps are about 75 degrees. Many fishing areas and four-wheeler trails are open. We camped at South Fork Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This Park is situated between Highway 160 and the Rio Grande on the east side of South Fork. The cottonwoods give plenty of shade. We were lucky to get a river side spot for one night. All facilities are nice and clean. Did not try the Wi-Fi because my iPad with AT&T 4G performed perfectly. Caught a brown trout with my fly rod, making it a perfect stay.
