Owner and wife were nice. Place still needs a lot of work, and full-timers make it look really run down. Sites need leveling. I think a 40' would have some major issues navigating, since I used to drive one. It's okay for a night. Which was my purpose. The owners were pleasant enough. I left behind my wheel chocks and they set them aside until I drove back thru and I appreciate that. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Yes it needs upgrades but overall it's like being at home. Felt so welcome people are so friendly. My kids had plenty of room to play and had a blast on the older playground equipment. We stay here everytime we stay! We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This RV park had the feel of the Colorado plains. It was quiet and the campground host was VERY accommodating when we ask to use the club room. When our group arrived the room was very clean, had white tablecloths on the tables and even real flower centerpieces! Our RV club enjoyed our potluck dinner there and also played bingo. They are in the process of installing 50 am hookups and continue to improve the park. This was our 3rd time there and we cannot wait to go again. Sterling is a great little town with one of the best museums I've ever been in-The Overland Trail Museum- We also enjoyed the Sugar Beet Festival that was going on when we were there. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Overland Museum has lots of local history , a super museum. There is a Wal-Mart, Home Depot and lots of fast food. We ate at the J and L, a local restaurant with great food and friendly staff.

So, the pool is closed (not that we needed it but someone else commented it as a plus) not sure, it looks like it hadn't been open for some time. Gravel sites are pretty level, many sites appear to be unavailable due to electrical issues. Man at the desk was very nice, but the park really needs a facelift. Only reason for the poor rating is that we thought it way overpriced for 30 amp service and gravel. They can pull it off because there really is no competition. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

This park gets a 10 because they took us in on Eclipse Eve for the going rate when everyone else was full or raising rates. Unfortunately it gets a 4 for serious undervolting (had to shut off AC) and need for maintenance. It's a shoestring operation and it shows. If you need a friendly stopover and don't need your AC a lot, it's okay. It did cool off at night so we could sleep with the windows open and noise was not a problem. If they can resolve the maintenance issues, we'd stay again if in the area . We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here twice in the past traveling from Iowa to mountain west states and back and have had good overnight stays each time. The very negative reviews I don't fully agree with although I wouldn't claim this is a top-notch campground without any need of improvement. The sites we have stayed in have been long pull-throughs, mostly level and on gravel/dirt. We didn't experience any significant issues with either site we have rented. Some reviewers ave commented on road noise from I76, but we didn't have any issues with this. The bathrooms/showers looked clean enough, but we didn't use them. One huge positive for this campground is it has a very nice in-ground concrete pool with a diving board. I don't recall any other campgrounds open to the public we have stayed at that had a pool with a diving board. We found the pool and surrounding area to be in good shape, clean, and our whole family really enjoyed this feature of the park. Considering this campground being in a barren waste-land between Lincoln/Kearney/North Platte, NE and Denver it is a good place to stop for the night with adequate sites, restrooms/bathhouse, and an above average pool for about any interstate public campground. I would recommend it for a night if you need to stop in the general area when passing through...

Don't stay here if you have high-end expectations.

Do stay here if you want an acceptable site and restroom/bath facilities, don't mind not having a lot of campground workers and services at your beck and call, and would enjoy a very nice swimming pool with a diving board. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nice pull-through sites on dirt/gravel with shade trees. Level side to side but some front to back leveling needed, so had to disconnect for a one night stand. Utilities were very well located. Some freeway noise and a train in the middle of the night but beautiful sunset, and other campers were quiet except for some workers leaving early. Did not use the available pool but it looked fine. Very tight sights. Pool was clean. Had to prune trees before getting into our sight. Definitely a one night stop over. Not much road noise. Quite a few seasonals. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Truck Camper.

This place is a dump. Apparently a former Yogi Bear facility. They had self check-in when we arrived at night. No one on staff for any assistance. Just drop your money in the drop box and choose your own site. This place is located in no man's land, the stretch of Interstate in northeast Colorado that has very few cities or campgrounds. The owners of this place take advantage of that fact and I'd guess that the majority of campers chose this campground as their only choice. Complete lack of maintenance, weeds all over, permanent campers in disrepair, Interstate noise, dusty, scary looking main building that isn't staffed. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here to visit family. WiFi did not work, and there was never anyone in the office, although it was the weekend. Plenty of burrs in the grass, which were troublesome for our dogs. The park is unkempt, but the pull-throughs are adequate for big rigs. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Avoid this campground at all costs! We arrived at 3:00 in the afternoon; no staff, honor system check-in. Then we find out that the women's bathrooms are closed for "renovations"; the Wi-Fi doesn't work; and the place looks like Death Valley. We have stayed here before under better circumstances, but will not stay here again! If we could get our money out of the dropbox, we'd keep on truckin'. The "new owners" have a lot to learn about RVing. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here on our way to Utah and having read the other reviews, weren't expecting much. As such we were pleasantly surprised. Obviously it has been picked up of trees and debris. We arrived after dark and registered and paid on the honor system. The bathrooms and showers were clean and comfortable. The pool was clean. The sites were rather soft and sandy but certainly serviceable. I had no problem with Wi-Fi. The biggest problem is this campground is fairly close to Interstate 76 so the road noise is considerable. We only stayed for the one night so it served our purposes well. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Tent Trailer.

New owner as of October 2008 is renovating and has folks cleaning up the place. Campground is well located and easy to find. Sites are not level and soft sand. OK for an overnight. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This appears to have been a good park "back in the day". Unfortunately, that day was long ago. The park has been seriously neglected for a few years. The office and surrounding areas appear junky, fallen tree branches litter the sites, pool needs maintenance and trees are untrimmed. 30 amp maximum hookup. The lady that signed us in was very friendly. There are a mixture of shaded and open sites (quite narrow) and the Wi-Fi works well. Stay a night if it is in the right location for you, otherwise keep on going. We camped at Buffalo Hills Campground in a Motorhome.
