Great State Park ~5 miles off the Interstate in Trinidad, CO. We stayed one night in space #52. Spaces are well above the Lake and have nice view of Lake, Mountains and Sunsets. Site was level, cell service good - as well as Dish reception. There was a real nice ~2 mile hiking loop and plenty of places to sit on a bench and just enjoy the views. Sites were nicely spaced out. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice hiking trails and plenty of spots to take in the views. Trinidad seemed like a cool town - with plenty of Diesel options (as well as a Safeway)

Typical Colorado State Park, beautiful. We have stayed here before and really like the park, it is one of our favorites. Lots of room between sites and to back in to the site. They do not have full hook ups but the power and water pressure were excellent. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is our 3rd stay here, in Carpios Ridge, and in the past we have just loved this place and it still is a nice place. This particular time our site 7 was a super tight fit for what we put in our reservation as 40 feet, luckily my husband is an excellent driver/parker. Pros: facilities are clean, park well maintained, beautiful views. Cons: On top of the camping fee, we have to pay a day fee, so you can reserve a campsite but can't access until you pay the daily $7 fee, which made daily rate $32, for electric only, there are better deals out there. Additionally the check in person was mediocre for customer service. There are some full hook ups throughout, but sparse; perhaps a renovation to upgrade the sites is in order (but may not be in the budget). Been to other places where they are friendly and happy to see you and offer local info, etc. Still a good park, lots of trails and boat launch for water sports, but a bit disappointed this stay. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in Carpios Ridge Campground. A pretty park overlooking Trinidad Lake. Spacious sites well spaced, patrolled regularly by Rangers. Some nice hiking trails, but there is no lake access from the campground. The biggest drawback with this park, as with all Colorado State Parks is that by the time you add the extra day use fee, you could have stayed in a park with full hookups instead of electric only. And if you buy the annual pass it is issued to only one vehicle, not the person. We won't be staying in any more Colorado State Parks because of this. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

If you are lucky to get one of the 7 FHU sites you will be fine. Park is tight for some site. several site are tight and should only be used for smaller RV light pop ups of shorter TT. Some sites are level but a majority are not especially in the first loop 1-23. My understanding is that on July 1st it will be reservations only through ReserveAmerica, they will no longer let you pull in off the road and occupy a vacant site. You must call for a reservation. there is also $7.00 per day vehicle pass needed and when you make your reservation on-line there will be a $10.00 processing fee. There is a NO FIRE BAN as well as NO SMOKING out side you vehicle or RV. this is a Country and State ban. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park with great views. The park has extra clean bathrooms and coin operated showers. The main bathroom area has a laundry room available. Also, found at this park is a playground, volleyball court, and an amphitheater. This park was enjoyable for some casual walking and wonderful views. The trail down to the lake was closed off when I was there. I was so impressed with this park and grateful for the state investing in the infrastructure found here. I will return this park. Nice picturesque park. It's very crowded and I was even in one of the large spots on the cliff above the lake. Little to no shade. No easy access to the lake. Only 7 campsites had full hookups. All others just had electric. Water was the biggest problem. They have spigots at various locations around the campground but you must block the road if you want to fill up before you park. Additionally, these spigots must be held on manually the entire time you fill up your tank. As soon as you let go of the lever, the water turns off. I would probably not stay here again. It is pretty, though. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice campground although many campsites are small in length and not level. Some sites have trees for shade but many are out in the open. Read the other reviews about water. You can fill fresh water in the day use area by the restrooms. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is an upgraded modernized campground with a lucrative restroom. Unfortunately, the park system did not have the wisdom to produce a campground with spacious sites. Generally, the sites are unleveled, close together and most are out in the open with little privacy. The best sites and more spacious reside on the outer edge above the lake. The campground is locate well above the lake, along the edge of a very steep slope. There is little or no access to the lake. Boating, water skiing, tubing, and other water activities are permitted. For some odd reason swimming is not permitted. After paying the steep price for camping, we had to use quarters to take a shower. Sites come with electric, but there is no water at the sites. Water spigots are difficult to locate and most are not along roadway. There is not much to do at this campground. There is limited lake access, a few short trails and everyone, including day users, are crowded into a small area. At least on the weekend this arrangement results in considerable disturbing campground noise. We camped here in a Motorhome and we will not return to this State Park. Fairly easy access from the highway. Some sites have reasonably unobstructed views of the lake, but most don't. Many of the sites would be too small for our 30' Airstream.

Typically at the end of September, I don't worry much about getting reservations at CO parks. But for some reason, this park was packed full on Sept 30th. We got one of the last two sites when we arrived at 6:30 pm. Be forewarned - get reservations! We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful park. It's spread out along a sloping ridge by the lake. No view of the lake, though, from most sites. The sites vary between gravel and asphalt and most seem to be fairly level side to side but not front to back. They are huge sites, though, with lots of room between them affording quite a bit of privacy. Only about 6-7 are FHU, though, with the rest being just electric only.
Now for the bad part. This park, along with all the CO state parks rip you off with a $7/day "park pass" on top of the $24 for electric only sites. And as if that's not bad enough, they also charge for the showers! At $31 per night, charging another couple bucks for a decent shower is just insulting. I think next time I'd pay $35 or so for an RV Park with free showers and wi-fi. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Truck Camper.

Pretty park. Only a few FHU sites and many are not very level. Nice hiking trails. Laundry room and showers are clean and well-maintained. Great Verizon and ATT signals. Biggest problem is narrow roads. We stayed near the entrance but had to go around the loop to leave and had a lot of trouble keeping our RV tires on the road. Very impressive facilities. The buildings that house the restrooms, showers and laundry are extremely clean, new and well laid out. We only stayed for an overnight stop so didn't see much of the lake or hiking trails. The camping spots were mostly asphalt and level. One of the cleanest and neatest campgrounds we've ever stayed at. We camped at Trinidad Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.
