We have been FT RVers for 11 weeks. We have stayed at a different campground almost every night. So far, this was by far our favorite. The owner is everything an owner should be: welcoming, helpful, ever present. The park has huge, mature trees for plenty of shade. In the four days we stayed we enjoyed: a ventriloquist/comedian performance, wood fired pizza party, picnic, church service and country breakfast. Many long-time May-September "permanent" residents who are allowed to elaborately landscape and build on decks and porches, etc. A true "community", and great one at that! If I were forced to complain, it is a few miles further from Durango than I would have preferred and their Wifi was sporadic and weak. But if ever in the area again, there is no doubt this would be our pick!! We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Motorhome.

This is one of the best rv campgrounds in Colorado. The staff is wonderful. There are planned activities. There is camp made pizza. The lake is beautiful. It is one of those parks where you want to stay more than a few days. It is camping in a wonderful woody area and NOT one of those campgrounds where there is concrete all around. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice RV resort. It is about ¼ mile from Lake Vallecito and the damn. It is about 20 miles from Durango. I cannot say enough about the staff. They are amazing starting with the fact they found a spot for us for July 4th week with a 1 hour notice on the day we arrived after having to abandon our previously reserved RV park as it the site was un usable. The site was small and narrow but very deep so we "lived in front of the rig with no problem. Once we settled in anything we need or wanted was taken care of with a smile. The campground is very clean and extremely well maintained. The resort is probably 75% seasonal or fulltime campers but still plenty of day/week users. Some of the sites are tight but most had enough room for a campfire, picnic table and a sitting area. Restrooms were clean as was the two laundry area. We were there July 4th and there was small parade of seasonal owner's decorated golf carts and a huge picnic put on by the resort. My only negatives were showers that were too small. poor cable reception (but that seemed to be a problem at out site only and they are aware of it) and poor internet access If in the area we would stay here again. momdoc. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Motorhome.

I made the reservation for this resort in February for July and I believe we must have been given one of the worst sites available. When I called I spoke with the owner and he assured me site #72 was one of his best. The good thing about this park was the location, it is located out of Bayfield and a lovely drive back to the resort. The resort is full of big tall pines which are lovely and just a few steps to the lovely Vallecito Lake which has some great hiking trails. Now for the bad, we were in pull thru site that was so tight but pretty level. We were situated next to a Park model with full timers and they held a party almost every night outside which ended up being within a few feet of our bedroom and they watched their TV they had outside on their porch on their banister next to our trailer, weird. Our site was either mud or weeds. Our utilities had to be run under our 5th wheel, there was no water pressure, we had them out a couple times and had hardly enough water pressure to flush the toilet. Even though they advertise cable we had not one station. The wifi was a joke. I would advise anyone to reconsider staying at this resort. Over 3/4 of the park is Park model units which are full time. Beware, the workers told us everything is over 30 years old and the owner didn't want to pay to upgrade. Very loud at night, we were across from hot tub lots of kids using it after hours, no staff ever came around at night to check anything. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The first thing that didn't make it a good experience was the office staff rude and not at all helpful. Staff took us to our site and had us coming around the wrong way so had to change directions which they should have known. After starting to set up found our neighbors had connected there water to our water connection so had to go back to office and there weren't too happy to help us but i will say the couple that did come and work it out very nice. The park is very remote even though supposedly only a short distance to Durango will take at least 30 minutes of curvy roads. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Truck Camper.

It looks like some have permanent or summer homes in the park, but everything is kept just beautifully. As soon as the people next to me left the other day, there was a gentleman there checking the site to make sure it was left in clean condition. I tried to sign up for another week, willing to pay full price. No sites available. This is a lovely, quiet park that is convenient to everything, yet far enough away from everything. The scenery is beautiful. People at the park couldn't be nicer. I'm very disappointed to be hitching up tonight and I'll be happy if I find a park half as nice as this one. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Just get in your car and ride to see the scenery. Pur Vida Cafe is right down the road on the lake and another place called the market on the left a little ways further down.

This is such a friendly park. We just finished our third summer there and made plans for next summer for 1 month. We have met some of the nicest people there. The owner, Dave, makes brick oven pizzas to order on Fridays which are fantastic.
It is like a one big family. Great weather, lots of trees and you are about 3 mins away from the lake and about 25 minutes away from Durango.
Only complaint is that the cable tv isn't that good. It maybe because of the mountains and channels are very limited.
They are adding a new laundry room.
There is a breakfast almost every Saturday which is very reasonable and there is all sorts of things to do at the campground. Bands come and play, pot luck dinners and they have a great area for kids to play. if you enjoy camping don't miss this campground, you will be delighted! We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Shopping in Durango and Silverton, which is 60 miles away. Don't forget the town of Vallecito, a few great resturants and the Hideaway bar. You can rent a boat and fish all day long!

We stayed here for a month. The park was very busy but we had a nice site in somewhat crowded conditions. There are a lot of seasonal park model residents. The people were extremely friendly and thee are a lot of activities like pot lucks, Saturday breakfast and other events. The access to the the beautiful lake, surrounding Colorado areas like a Durango, Silverton, and Ouray made this a great place to spend a summer month. Weather was beautiful. WiFi worked pretty good most of the time. Would definitely return and recommend a stay here. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Motorhome.

Absolutely spectacular! Nicest people at the park - from reservations - to arrival - to departure. They have lots of events planned for the park guests. There are extremely nice, permanent places, cabins, and then RV sites that are shady, level, and very easy to get in and out of. Close to Vallecita Lake and Durango. We will definitely go back and stay longer. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Motorhome.

We came to this campsite based on the recommendation of a long term camper who stays here. Beautiful pine trees (don't come first 3 weeks of June - yellow pollen season), shade everywhere. Owner and his staff are friendly and helpful and are doing a lot of upgrades to this very popular park. Lots of campers (short term and long term) here in all kinds of rigs. Several small mobile homes with roofs/decks that people own and live in and cabins you can rent. A playground for kids, large picnic table area and bbq pits available for campers use. Though rustic, our site was pretty level with a picnic table on cement. Laundry room(s) and small store in office with fishing needs, too. Sadly, no phone service (had to drive to dam to make/get calls) and cable is not that good. Camp is really more for older, long term campers and their community activities reflect that. Stayed a week, but felt we should have only stayed 2/3 days. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Gorgeous park set in the San Juan Mountains with huge pine trees for shade. Sites are mostly level and the park roads are gravel/dirt. It can be a little difficult to get a good line of sight for your satellite so you may want to ask about that when you reserve. Main drawback is the wifi. Really spotty, some days downright unusable. People are really nice that run the park though. There are tons of hummingbirds so hang a feeder! Be careful when driving around the area because there is lots of wildlife. We saw numerous elk, mule deer, and turkeys. You are only about a mile away from the Vallecito Reservoir which is a popular fishing lake. It is an easy day trip to Silverton also. Stayed 13 nights in a 37' fifth wheel. Would stay here again. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Superb park! Very friendly and helpful staff, everything well maintained, pretty location. Rate based on PA discount. Unlike many parks, the permanent residences are well-kept and actually appealing. Will definitely return, maybe for a longer stay than 5 nights - would be a good place for a month or two! Nice place. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Motorhome.

We are members of Passport and found this park through our passport book. They had planned activities that were lots of fun. The sites were a little small. In talking with people in the park, they were return guests and stay for months. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Restrooms outdated were dirty and noticed obvious mold. Sites were gravel tight to get in to. It was a beautiful location and they did have 2 hot tubs. Guests and staff were both friendly. Only 10 cable channels but we didn't get them all. WiFi wasn't that fast. We camped at Vallecito Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
