Beautiful park. Sites are huge and spaced for tons of privacy. Electric only, but there is a dump station and water available. Quietest place I have camped in some time. Also, very dark at night. Very serene. It was pretty windy the whole time I stayed; don't know if this is endemic to the area or not. Great little golf course right next to the campgrounds, only $10 to walk 9 holes. Several miles to town for groceries, and iffy to bike into town, as you lose the road shoulder for awhile on the way back. Verizon signal is very good. No wifi, a handful of o/a tv stations available. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Motorhome.

Park is at intersection of Hwy 160 and I25. Great little State Park. Golf, Lake, boating, restaurant, hiking. We spent one night here. Park is large and all sites are lateral to the road pull throughs. Sites have electric only with communal water spigots, or they have no utilities at all. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bought the 1 year Colorado state park pass for $70 avoiding the otherwise each time fees in our 3 week CO trip. Pinon CG has nicely paved roads and mostly level pull through sites with electricity. Scattered Faucets. Nicely spaced sites with mowed grass. Coin operated showers. I enjoyed a sandstone boulder field just behind my site with many water bored pot holes. A history of a rocky fast flowing river there in the geological past. There are 2 lakes for boating and lots of roads to bike about in the CG. This was one of my most favorite CO parks. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Motorhome.

We have been coming the Lathrop for many years. There are two lakes for fishing and boating. Horseshoe Lake also has a nice swimming beach. The RV sites are electric only and almost all sites are pull-thrus (I think A loop does have a couple of back-ins). We were in B-53 this time which is a nice pull-thru kind of up on a little hill. Very nice site with a pine-tree over the picnic table that provided plenty of shade. All sites also have a fire-pit but we were unable to use because of the fire-bans this time of year. Also, our site had a little path that takes you to some interesting rock outcroppings and links to the Hogback trail and trail to the amphitheater. We were here during the week which is great because only a few sites were occupied. However, starting Thursday night the weekend crowd started showing up and the sites were quickly getting full. For those of you not familiar with Colorado State Parks, a daily fee is charged on top of the campsite fee and showers usually cost extra. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the road to La Veta (CO12 - Highway of Legends) and go to Cuchara. The ride is beautiful with some interesting rock walls and great views. The town of Cachara is basically one block of little shops and restaurants. We went to the Dog Bar and as the name says, you can bring your dog. We sat on the deck with our drinks and munchies on a perfect summer day.

Firstly, this is a campground. It has 2 lakes, boating, fishing, swimming, amphitheater, etc. ideal for a family destination. We dropped in overnight in our big rig on way north. The campground is barely accommodating for big rigs, but manageable. Had to unhook dinghy to access site. There is only electric (50A, 30A) service. No water or sewer hook up. But, many water stations scattered about for filling jugs. Decent privacy. Don't know if we would return with a big rig. But, given that it's a really nice campground. Site not exactly level. But not bad. Because of circular pull through shape, could not drive through to exit (had to back up). We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice State Park about three miles west of the town on Highway 160. Large enough pull through sites for my 41 foot 5th wheel. The water hookups on some sites are close enough to fill up your unit without having to move it but they are shared so you can't stay hooked up to it. Overall it is a very nice park with a nice lake for fishing and boating. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for 1 night. Loved the large pull thru sites with electric. Water spicets are shared and are only used to fill up your tanks, not to connect to your RV.The sites are spacious and private. Beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains, specifically the Spanish Peaks. We were able to watch a beautiful sunset. The bathrooms and showers are BASIC. The showers were nice HOT water, but the water pressure was kind of low. Also bring your quarters to shower, 50 cents for 4 minutes. I used $1.25 for my shower. This campsite is very close to I-25, and well worth the 5 mile drive off of the Interstate. There is not much in the small town of Walsenburg, that you have to drive thru to get to the park. I always try to do my part and either buy gas in a small dying town or find a place to eat to help the local economy. This park is in between Trinidad CO and Pueblo CO. We will definately stay here again. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful, scenic campground with widely spaced level sites. Big lake for fishing & boating, a good base camp for exploring the Spanish Peaks area, and just a few miles from I-25 so also good for an overnight. Like the other CO state parks we've been to this one is also spotlessly clean with very friendly staff and hosts. $24/night is the base fee. Unless you have a CO parks pass you'll need to add $7 a day and reservations on Reserve America have a $10 fee. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wow is my first thought! This is the most beautiful state park we hav ever been in. There was no water at our site, but there are lots of water spigots scattered in the park, and the map they give you shows their locations. We had good 50 amp service, but only got 3-4 tv channels on antenna and couldn't hookup our DirecTV receiver. Might have been because it was very overcast. The park is easy to get around in (with map) and has a lot to do.The paved, pullthrough site was fairly level and electric was on the corrrect side. It was VERY WINDY though. The views were incredible...snow capped mountains and beautiful, natural scrubs and birds. There were a lot of other campers in our loop D, but the sites are so spacious you feel like you're all alone. I would highly recommend this park, just wish they gave some kind of discount to people who weren't from Colorado. Office staff was very friendly and helpful, and told us if we saw a site other than the one they assigned, just call them and take that site (if it wasn't reserved). We liked the one they assigned. We camped at Lathrop State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a nice 2-night stay here. Each of the spaces is designed for privacy, and there is electricity and water, but no sewer. Not a problem for a short stay - and there is a dumping station on the grounds. Great walking trails, a nice couple of small lakes, and a view of the Rocky Mountains to the west - a gorgeous view I might add. The small town of Walsenberg isn't that much, but this park is close to the interstate, another plus if you're traveling north towards Denver or south to New Mexico. Would definitely stay here again. Very nice park. The campsites are large, have water and electric. Many have gorgeous mountain views. There are trees but they are pinion pines, so they are tall shade trees. There isn't much else in the area, but you can find groceries in Walsenburg. Other than a grocery run, the town doesn't offer much. We will go back. The 30 year old plus campground restrooms are shameful. They can only be used by one person at a time. So if someone has actually paid for a shower, the toilet is not available. Overlooking the restroom situation, this is an excellent park and an excellent place for RV camping. There are three campground loops with an assortment of sites. Most are level, some are pull through, and nearly all are very spacious with attractive juniper and pinyon trees. Verizon works great here and we had no problem getting Dish Network. Water is not included at the sites, but at some sites the spigots are rather close for a temporary connection. Sites have a view of the Spanish Peaks and the lakes.
