We stopped here for a couple of nights on our way to Maine. We found this campground a little pricy for what we paid for. We only had an electric/water hook up so the expensive price was without sewer. Our site was on a small hill and took a lot to get it level and didn't achieve a full level. When looking at the map of the sites and you choose your site to reserve you don't realize how unlevel some of the sites are. There were some full hook up sites that looked to be in a field with no shade. The bathrooms were some of the worse bathrooms we have used in all our years of camping. The stalls were small, dirty, and no adjusting your water temperature there was only one temperature. The park did have some nice trails to hike and we found railroad tracks with a tunnel leading underneath the tracks that led to a river. The dump is just like the last reviewer said it's up a large hill that seemed even larger coming down and you're dragging the end of the trailer coming off the hill onto another hill to get out of there. Probably won't return to this park and will find another place to stay if ever come back to this area. We camped at Salt Rock Campground State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a decent CT state park campground. The site was spacious and wooded with pretty good privacy. It had a large stone fire ring and a picnic table. The bathrooms were usable but could use a thorough cleaning and fresh paint. Also, the bathrooms had no soap and the sinks were cold water only. The dump station is positioned on top of a hill behind the dumpsters and the road is sloped AWAY from the dump pit, so make sure to bring some boards to raise the low side. There is a small playground and there are two small pools, one that goes to 7 feet deep and a 3-foot deep kiddie pool. The sign on the fence said “Pool Hours 10-4”, we got in the kiddie pool at 2:30 (the big pool was closed and had a cover on it???) and were informed that the pool would be closing at 3:00. I told him that the sign said 4:00, he said on Sundays it closes at 3:00. ??? The campground is bordered by a river that didn’t look very inviting for swimming or fishing, but there was a nice foot path that followed the river. This campground has great potential. If you walk around the outskirts of the campground, you can see a lot of sites that still have the water spigots, electrical boxes and fire rings(some even have concrete pads)that were never renovated, so the are just sitting there overgrown and unused. My biggest complaints with this campground are #1: Radio noise, all types of music can be heard from other sites from 8 AM until well past midnight. Which leads to #2: Lack of any type of rule enforcement by the staff (a group of high school/college aged kids). Only 6 people per site? Yeah right; the site next to us had 4 tents and an EZ-UP with 8-10 people on it. Quiet hours? Yeah right; it’s a radio free-for-all any time of day. Not sure if we will return. We camped at Salt Rock Campground State Park in a Travel Trailer.

The campground is nice with mostly wooded sites that surround a huge open field. There are two in-ground swimming pools available to campers, but be advised that swimming lessons are taught throughout the day to local residents. There is a small playground with new equipment. The Shetucket River runs adjacent to the campground and offers opportunities for fishing and swimming. If you do not have a self-contained camper, I would avoid this campground. The restroom and shower facilities are woefully inadequate for the number of people that use them. The bathrooms were the dirtiest I have ever encountered. They were infested with bugs because the entry doors were left propped open. There are no rules regulating the number of people that can occupy a site. Some sites had several tents pitched on them with multiple families staying on them for the weekend. There were approximately four college-aged students running the park, although park rangers occasionally drove through the campground on the weekend. This would be a really nice campground if some rules were established and enforced and the restroom facilities were updated and kept clean. We camped at Salt Rock Campground State Park in a Tent Trailer.
