This campground is located at Lake Compounce amusement park and it features cabins, teepees, a tenting area, and, of course, a large RV area. The campsites are laid out with water-electric hookups located in a shared grassy area on the driver's side of the sites. If the place is full, there will be a shared front yard between campers as well. Most people, I think, come to spend a few days at the amusement park. There's even a shuttle operating from the campground to the main gate of the park. The campground is about 10 minutes from I84 and the campsites are all pull-through, making it a handy place for an overnight stay. The sites are all water/electric (30/50 amp), no sewer. Individual shower rooms are available. There is campground WiFi - ours got slower as the evening progressed. There's a nearby power plant that can be heard non-stop in the near distance. I had a strong 4G signal and, since the campsites are pretty much out in the open, satellite TV is no problem. The campground has a play area, but the main recreation is the amusement park. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Big rig friendly, large gravel sites, easy access in and out. We are two old people looking for safe places to overnight. This park was quiet and safe. Perfect stop for us. No sewer but it did have a convenient dump station. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a tricky review for me to write. Did we enjoy our stay? Yes, for the most part. Would we stay again? No. Here are the pros and cons of our visit. PROS: Easy entrance and friendly staff, we received our requested site, all pull through RV sites, level sites, clean bathrooms/showers, beautiful store/office, shuttle service to the amusement park, discounted tickets to Lake Compounce, convenient to grocery store and interstate CONS: Hot, dry sites with no shade (newly planted trees not large enough yet), W/E only-no sewer, limited amenities (they need a pool), not much to do at campground for older kids and adults, not enough space between sites, garbage truck coming through at 7 am, constant 24/hr droning of power plant and horrible sporadic odors from same. This park has a ton of potential and I don't think they're done with it yet. The cabins and teepees seem very popular and looked great. The tenting area is a bit tight but was well maintained. A staff member did tell us that there are rumors of a pool for next year. However, not sure what, if anything, they can do about a 650-ton a day solid waste incinerator for a neighbor. And frankly, that is a deal breaker for us. The constant sound and frequent odor were simply intolerable for us. We can't go back because of that. Too bad. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Lake Compounce is adjacent to this campground (owned/managed by the same company?) and is a great, family amusement park. Additionally, they have a water park included in the admission price. Admission tickets are sold at a discount to campers in the office/store at Bear Creek. Super Target only a few miles away for a grocery run or forgotten items.

This campground is part of a large amusement park in Bristol. It is fairly new and caters to families visiting the park. All sites are pull thru with water and electric only and are very long, level, and spacious. Everything worked well and the sky is open for dish. The proximity to the park makes it a bit pricey, but we enjoyed our stay. Very quiet at night. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This was the first time that we camped at Bear Creek. It was my husband, myself, and my two children We were excited about our trip however disappointed when we got to the campground. I understand that it is a new campground but it felt like we were camping on a tarmac. It was hot and there was no shade or relief in sight. We have air conditioning in our camper but we don't camp to spend 100% of our time in our camper. We did go to the amusement park one day however I do not feel that the discounted price of the tickets was really worth the $60 a night to camp at Bear Creek. It is advertised as being a part of Lake Compounce so my feeling is there should be a larger discount for the amusement park, otherwise don't advertise and sell it as being part of amusement park. The price we paid for the amusement park tickets was the same as any other discount that you can receive by going on the internet. It was not what we expected and we would not return. The staff were friendly and helpful. The water had good pressure. There was no sewer hookups. As stated in other reviews there is a power plant that creates a humming noise 24/7. The facilities were clean just not a place to bring children on a hot summer day unless your planning on spending all your time at the amusement park. The trolley service to the amusement park is very convenient. Campground is pet friendly. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

As others have said, this is a newer park, and the RV camping is basically in a big gravel field. There are trees, but they are young and offer no shade at all. Hook-ups are water and electric only, no sewer. Sites are gravel and level, everything was in good working order.

The restrooms and showers are very nice, modern and were very clean. I noticed they were cleaned several times a day.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, even in the rain all weekend.

Only real problem we had was getting to the campground. We came in in the early AM dark and as you approach the amusement park you can't see the signs for the campground, the entrance is hidden to the left before the parking lot toll booths, where there is a lit sign. A lit sign on the road would have been very helpful.

The main reason for visiting is the amusement park, but this is a good jumping off point for other local attractions, and the campground itself has activities as well. On our visit they had a Mothers Day pancake breakfast that was excellent.

Overall it is a bit pricey for a W/E site, but still a nice place to stay and we plan to return. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like classic amusement parks, Lake Compounce is wonderful. Also, Quassy Amusement Park is just 30 minutes away and worth a visit. The New England Carousel Museum is also only minutes away in downtown Bristol.

This is a newly built campground, staff at check in were helpful but seemed a little disorganized! Interior roads and pads are gravel, big rig access was good. Our site was a spacious and level pull through however they are side to side which means you share your picnic area with your neighbor and there were no sewer hookups. We were here late in the season so it was very quiet, but we could hear the constant hum of the power plant. There is not a lot of privacy between sites, and as yet the newly planted trees are too small to give any shade, but we had plenty of space for our towed, picnic table and fire ring. We had some very pretty views of the hills through our front windshield. The laundry was clean but had two dryers out of order, the bathrooms were very spacious and exceptionally clean. Pet friendly with doggie bags and disposal station, but no dog walk. WiFi and cell were good. Given time this will be a great campground and we would certainly stay here again, it was perfect for an overnight stop, but signage to the campground was very poor, making it a challenge to find the campground! We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a fairly new campground. No shade, as the trees are young, but level gravel spaces with kind of an odd set up. Hookups (no sewer) are on opposite sides of the sites and tables in the middle so when you pull in you pretty much "share" the outside space. Great for groups traveling together - not so great if you like privacy. The biggest complaint was Wi-Fi is not usable - although you can get on pages don't load and connection drops constantly. The staff is friendly and security visible. It is also next to a power plant which gives off a constant pulsating hum 24/7. Since there's no sewer when you pull out there can be a long wait at the dump station. Great kids programs - since it's next to an amusement park there are a lot of families with kids staying there. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a newly built campground with good bones. We stayed for a very busy weekend to take advantage of Lake Compounce Amusement Park. RV part of the campground is basically a flat open gravel field. Trees have been planted but will take some years before any decent shade or when the campground has a better visual appeal. Campsites face each other but are staggered enough so you will not be looking directly at you camping neighbor. With that said I would recommend pulling into your site as far forward as possible for extra distance from your camping neighbor. Our water/electric was in good working order but our cable was mostly snow, asked the next site over and they had the same problem. We did report this. Staff was professional. Wi-Fi worked slow, we had good signal on our Verizon cell. Our main criticism on this park is as of now it is not gated 24 hrs per day and that is a security concern. Bathrooms were clean and showers were nicely set up with lots of extra space. In conclusion, this campground will improve with age. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice campground. All gravel pull thrust with plenty of room for big rigs. We're 45' long and towing a Jeep. High water pressure. WiFi was slower than I wanted and no sewer hookups were the only downsides. Convenient to a lot of areas in central CT.

People were all very friendly and helpful!!!

We would stay again. We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Motorhome.
