This is a large campground with a mix of seasonal and nightly sites. We were in an open area of the campground with a back in site. We had 50 amp electric, water and grey water only sewer at the site. I had not encountered this before. It's a small pipe so you have to drain with a water hose. There is a dump station available.

On the plus side they have lots of amenities, including a pool, so if you have kids they can keep busy. Service was good and there is an RV sales and service business on-site. The driveways are gravel and are in fairly good condition. Our site was grass with a picnic table and fire ring.

On the negative side, there is WiFi but you must purchase it. We used it and it was quite good, $9.99 for three days. We were able to get a Passport America rate at $24.50 per night. AT&T 4G signal strength -114 dBm, moderate to weak. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We wanted a campground in the Hartford area while visiting friends and found Nelson's Family Campground. It is a very nice campground with a number of long term sites which are very nicely kept. We were able to get Passport America rate even though we arrived on July 4.
The interior roads are a bit tight and have sharp turns for our 43' bus. The sites are nice and spacious and there is good use of shrubs to separate spaces.
The road to the campground was rather twisty and narrow too - after having been here a few days, we're going to leave via Main Street rather than Lake Drive - it may be a little further to drive, but we think that it will accommodate our bus more easily. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We camped for 8 nights with Passport America, so our average rate was $33. The sites were quite large and many of them were grassy. Some were deeper in the trees, and had less grass. A creek runs through the park. They cater to the family and kids, so if you don't like the noise of kids playing, stay further from the playground areas. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed for one night and we would stay again, if we were in the area. The overnight spots were spacious, we were given a choice of shaded or full sun. Great campfire rings. Everyone was very friendly. Everything was very clean and well maintained! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Sites we were given were not level but manageable. Gray water can be dumped on the site if you use a hose from your unit's gray water cap.

Large stone fire rings. Purchase wood on site. Do not carry wood in to burn.

Many amenities but we only stayed overnight and did not take advantage of them. RV dealer/repair on site. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

A fairly large campground with mostly seasonal camper, of which all were well kept. Open or shady sites available. Good gravel interior roads, site pad also gravel. Wifi not good. Check-in went smooth. Nice playground and swimming pool. Would/will stay again if in the area. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Really friendly staff, great place for kids, without being overly crowded or noisy. We were there for a week, and my grandson had a great time and met several other kids his age (11). It was also very close to Brownstone Park, a fantastic water park. We'd definitely stay there again! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The name says it all. If you want a family camp where everyone knows everyone else, this is the place for you. If you want beauty and peace and quiet, try another place. Place is crowded on the weekends with lots of people roaming around. If you are a social animal, you will love this place. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay here. From the moment we checked in, we were greeted by some very friendly employees. The grounds are clean, the seasonal residents we met were extremely nice. The bathrooms, while a bit older, were very clean during our stay. Sites were large, especially in our area (B). I think these sites are larger than the sunny sites. Plenty of activities for the kids, though they were fine on their own. There were some rowdy people by us up well after quiet hours (after midnight) and someone drove by (I'm assuming management) and the carousing was squashed immediately. I was glad they handled that. The kids had a blast. Two suggestions I would make would be: more dumpster areas and expand the camp store a bit with more items. However, we did love the Keurig machine in the camp store. We would definitely return, especially when the pool's open! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Decently run campground, staff experienced and helpful. Campground has a mix of wooded and open sites. Enjoyed the overall appearance of the campground. Noticed all the seasonal sites/campers were well maintained and the seasonals were the friendliest people I've ever encountered. Our campsite # B28 was a major disappointment. Our gray water and electric was located on the wrong side of the site. No small wonder why, two huge trees they would have to cut down to fix the situation. So I had to pull in forward and back out when I left with very little clearance between these trees and because of this we were in plane site of our camping neighbors which left us no privacy. Still though we enjoyed this campground. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. The grounds are clean, the pool not crowded, the staff very friendly, and it was just a great weekend. The sites are large and somewhat graveled. Even after it rained the ground dried quickly. There were even a few sites that could accommodate 2 popups if need be! The bath house was CLEAN!! I saw them in there cleaning at least twice a day! The showers were huge. I have absolutely nothing bad to say. Again, we will definitely return to this one! Our site overlooked the lake, the campground is clean and well kept. There were several seasonal campers. We had a good time at this park and would recommend it to others. We will camp here again. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.
