Large campground. We stayed in G section, which is hilly and wooded and the sites are mainly dirt/gravel. Our site was level with plenty of room. The sites in the sections closer to the pond and office are more sunny with grass but less privacy. Seasonals seemed pretty friendly, most seasonal sites were well kept. Plenty of activities. Bathrooms were clean. My only complaints would be, 1) Lots of yapping/barking dogs, 2) Lots of small pieces of trash on the site and in the firepit, 3) WIFI is an additional fee. This is the only campground I have stayed at that you had to buy WIFI. At $51/ night, WIFI should be included. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice campground, with most sites being quite large, wooded, and reasonably private. It has a very rustic feel, and is clean and well kept. Most sites are occupied by permanent residents. We liked the look and feel of the place, and the very large size of the campground meant we never had to leave the grounds looking for someplace to walk our Lab. AT&T and Verizon both worked for us. Unfortunately, the local roads getting to the campground, some roads inside the campground, and the site we were assigned were not suitable for our 42-foot motorhome, which made our visit less enjoyable. We had issues with low branches on the local roads and campground roads. The site we were assigned in the "G" section up on a wooded hill was very wide and surrounded by trees for privacy, but it was barely long enough for our rig. Worse, it was so un-level (very low in the back and driver's side) that even using every leveling block in our extensive collection under our wheels and jacks we had to settle for being crooked for our whole stay. If we had a smaller RV we'd love to return here, but will look elsewhere in the future for someplace more suitable for big rigs. In addition, $51/night felt pretty expensive for a non-sewer site in rural CT. Add a star if you have a smaller rig! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Great family campground, tons of activities, great staff. Our site was on the grassy field, plenty of space, water and electric only, dump station at front gate area. They charge an exorbitant $20 for honey wagon. The only knocks, besides no sewer hookups at the sites, are the interior roads are tight and a bit confusing, as were the verbal direction the young gal gave us, and the roads have little to no directional signage. Trees need trimming (low overhangs). The roads in to the park are VERY skinny and twisty, so many trees need trimming (I was surprised I made it with both my antennae in tact). We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a large campground with a mix of seasonal and nightly sites. We were in an open area of the campground with a back in site. We had 50 amp electric, water and grey water only sewer at the site. I had not encountered this before. It's a small pipe so you have to drain with a water hose. There is a dump station available.

On the plus side they have lots of amenities, including a pool, so if you have kids they can keep busy. Service was good and there is an RV sales and service business on-site. The driveways are gravel and are in fairly good condition. Our site was grass with a picnic table and fire ring.

On the negative side, there is WiFi but you must purchase it. We used it and it was quite good, $9.99 for three days. We were able to get a Passport America rate at $24.50 per night. AT&T 4G signal strength -114 dBm, moderate to weak. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

My only comment is the dump situation. You can only dump grey water but you have to have a special tool to do it and the campground sells it. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We wanted a campground in the Hartford area while visiting friends and found Nelson's Family Campground. It is a very nice campground with a number of long term sites which are very nicely kept. We were able to get Passport America rate even though we arrived on July 4.
The interior roads are a bit tight and have sharp turns for our 43' bus. The sites are nice and spacious and there is good use of shrubs to separate spaces.
The road to the campground was rather twisty and narrow too - after having been here a few days, we're going to leave via Main Street rather than Lake Drive - it may be a little further to drive, but we think that it will accommodate our bus more easily. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We camped for 8 nights with Passport America, so our average rate was $33. The sites were quite large and many of them were grassy. Some were deeper in the trees, and had less grass. A creek runs through the park. They cater to the family and kids, so if you don't like the noise of kids playing, stay further from the playground areas. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed for one night and we would stay again, if we were in the area. The overnight spots were spacious, we were given a choice of shaded or full sun. Great campfire rings. Everyone was very friendly. Everything was very clean and well maintained! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Sites we were given were not level but manageable. Gray water can be dumped on the site if you use a hose from your unit's gray water cap.

Large stone fire rings. Purchase wood on site. Do not carry wood in to burn.

Many amenities but we only stayed overnight and did not take advantage of them. RV dealer/repair on site. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

A fairly large campground with mostly seasonal camper, of which all were well kept. Open or shady sites available. Good gravel interior roads, site pad also gravel. Wifi not good. Check-in went smooth. Nice playground and swimming pool. Would/will stay again if in the area. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Really friendly staff, great place for kids, without being overly crowded or noisy. We were there for a week, and my grandson had a great time and met several other kids his age (11). It was also very close to Brownstone Park, a fantastic water park. We'd definitely stay there again! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The name says it all. If you want a family camp where everyone knows everyone else, this is the place for you. If you want beauty and peace and quiet, try another place. Place is crowded on the weekends with lots of people roaming around. If you are a social animal, you will love this place. We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We really enjoyed our stay here. From the moment we checked in, we were greeted by some very friendly employees. The grounds are clean, the seasonal residents we met were extremely nice. The bathrooms, while a bit older, were very clean during our stay. Sites were large, especially in our area (B). I think these sites are larger than the sunny sites. Plenty of activities for the kids, though they were fine on their own. There were some rowdy people by us up well after quiet hours (after midnight) and someone drove by (I'm assuming management) and the carousing was squashed immediately. I was glad they handled that. The kids had a blast. Two suggestions I would make would be: more dumpster areas and expand the camp store a bit with more items. However, we did love the Keurig machine in the camp store. We would definitely return, especially when the pool's open! We camped at Nelson's Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.
