This campground had two things going for it. The beach and the bike trail. However, after we got set up we took the dog for a walk and learned that pets were not allowed. We asked for a refund and were told they could not refund. There were many sites with standing water and mud going into them. We pulled out early and lost one nights stay. We will never return. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice Large State Beach Campground with lots of flat bike riding and walks. Mix of shaded and open sites, most nice and level. Campground and park are very large and could use a couple more playscapes, maybe one for each camping loop. Facilities are clean, friendly staffs and well maintained. Beach was rebuilt last fall and sand isn't as nice as it used to be. Lots of broken shells etc, it will take time for Mother Nature to sift through the new beach. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Meigs Point Nature Preserve is worth the trip. The Clam castle is also a great clam shack just down the road from camp.

We were so pleasantly surprised when we pulled in to this campground. Well organized, although busy, check in. Wide, spacious sites in organized loops, each with its own bathhouse(s), dishwashing station, potable water spigot, and dumpsters. Some shaded sites available, other sites sunny. Sites all seemed to be fairly level. The campground was clean, clean, clean! Lots of tenters and family groups during the holiday weekend, all having a great time. Staff/security presence was noticed but not intrusive. Hookups only available at the Beach Road area, we stayed at a dry site and fully enjoyed it. Easy, pretty walk or bike ride to the beach. Camp store nicely stocked and hosted by friendly, helpful staff. Oddly windy enough each morning and evening to close our awning for a few hours, but then we were able to re-open it. Our picnic table and others in our loop were in need of replacement but it looked like they were in the process of replacing them throughout the park. Bring your own off the ground firepit or you can rent one from the camp store. Four or five dump stations but we still had to wait at check out which is typical for a busy, large campground. We can't wait to book here again! Loved it! We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed one night in site BR-I (Beach Road-letter I) a W/E site with a view of the beach which was a 5 minute walk away. The site was a wide open, large grassy area, but the road to it is one lane and dead ends, leaving you no room to back in or even turn around. Thankfully, the site beside ours was vacant so I could drive through it to position our trailer. We've stayed all over the country but never where the hook-ups were positioned so that we had to park parallel to the road. We managed, but it would have been much easier with a legitimate cul-de-sac at the end of the road and/or an actual two-lane road to allow room to maneuver your rig. The park itself and the beach were very nice and clean. Even though it was busy it did not feel crowded. No wi-fi, but we had full cell service (AT&T) and many OTA TV channels. If we stayed here again, I would avoid the Beach Road sites and look to stay closer to the beach itself with easier in-and-out. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very friendly place! Being a state park, you would expect trees, but there were none. However, there were nice vistas, including a pretty lake. We only stayed overnight and it was great for that. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

We are a four generation family camping at Hammonassety. This is my 64th year! The bath/restroom facility in the section where cabins are located are always lacking cleaning. Facilities in other camp areas are better maintained for cleanliness etc. The park monitors (guards, police) are lax with enforcing park rules: noise after 10:00 pm, # cars on lot, # of overnight campers not of immediate family, very noisy gas powered electric generators usually placed towards adjacent sites & away from the violators, parking in "no parking" zones making it dangerous for pedestrian traffic, bike riding after sunset, general loitering of teens in large groups. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Cabin.

Nice park. Not a lot of hookup sites - W/E only. The area with hookups was basically wide open spaces - a grass strip with no trees. Lots of kids/families. It was convenient to area attractions. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Lots nearby. We liked Mystic, about 35 miles away. Went to Gilette Castle - ok but not very impressive style, architecture, or furniture - but very different. Completely built of rocks.

This park exceeded my expectations. The park is large and the sites are roomy. The park is very clean and the grass pads were really nice and level. Clean. Did I mention clean? The beaches are easily accessible on foot and the Long Island Sound was really calm and pleasant to swim in even in late September. Meg's Point nature area was a nice bike ride through the park and featured an impressive rocky beach which was really fun to climb and explore. (Or just to sit and view). Very, very pleasant.

Overall the campground is great for children and families. Wonderful vibe. Great bike riding for children and nice hiking areas. I didn't fish, but people were surf fishing from the campground and were catching large blue fish and striped bass.

The bathrooms were clean / each section of the park had it's own bathrooms which was very nice. I never waited to use the shower and the water was plenty hot. There are hook up sites available but if you have the capacity to boondock here you may choose to do so as the dry, non-hook- up sites were the best sites in the park.

In addition to being well maintained the park is run very well.

Campfires are permitted but must be elevated. You may rent a fire pit thingy for about $13... or if you have an elevated fire ring you may use your own.

There's not too many beach campgrounds on the east coast. This particular park had it's own vibe and pleasant unique feel. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are two towns both north and south, within a few miles or a short 5 minute drive from the campground. Both have bars and family oriented restaurants, small supermarkets and such. The park is about 10 minutes from route 95. Very accessible.

Beautiful beach with lots of walking trails. Our site was out in the open (few trees). It looked like some of the other sites had a little shade.

The beach was kept clean and the water was nice. During our visit, the beach was very crowded. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

I have camped here for the last 2 years. We bought our camper in 2013 late spring so getting a spot in a private campground was hard to come by. We were able to get one of the fewer shaded spots there. The site was clean, the facilities were always kept up. There were no fire rings/or pits you had to bring in your own. The noise level was loud during the early evening, but the park rangers enforced quiet hours. They offered movies on the weekends and some activities. The playground was a hit with the kids. We have overall enjoyed camping here. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an outstanding state park. One of the best I've camped at in the northeast. The sites are spacious and wide open. Unfortunately, as in many state area's, you must go through ReserveAmerica which slaps an additional $10.00 fee on the charge bringing my 2 day total to $49.00 (still very reasonable). There are water and electric hookups available but searching for them with ReserveAmerica is virtually impossible. They are in the Beach Road area. The beach is on Long Island Sound with lots of room. I expect it is quite full on weekends. Lots of kids, no pets and very well maintained. Get off 95 at exit 62 for direct access. Visit picturesque towns along US1. Enjoy!! We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

These sites were huge! You could put 2 big trailers on each site. They were so nice. The bathrooms were close and very clean to everyone. The staff was nice and friendly. It's a beautiful park. I wish someone would have told us that you have to bring your own fire-ring to have a fire. There is lot's to do at this park. Something for everyone in the family. We will defiantly be back. We are not CT residents and not CT registered campers. This adds to cost of a night. We'd been better off at other camps in the area at lesser cost and higher service. Camp has outside sink to clean/rinse dishes. This camp is attractive because it is wide open with lots of room between sites and areas and it is on the sea shore. We would not stay again. From 10 -1 not level, -1 water faucet leaked, -1 value. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We stayed in an ADA site which had electric.(U17) Our section was beautifully shaded, immaculately groomed, and large. The beach is within walking distance, and there is a small playground. On Saturday night, 2 children's movies were shown at the amphitheater. The rangers cruise the campground regularly and quiet hours were...quiet. The beach is gorgeous. This was our first time here and we plan to return. I didn't give a "10" because of the "no pets" policy. They should have some pet loops, as in other state park campgrounds. This is right off I-95 between New Haven and New London and is situated on the Long Island Sound. Easy off and on. We camped here for one night since we were so close to home in RI. Came in on Memorial Day while everyone was going home. We did not have reservations but no problems during this week - they were totally booked for the weekend. 558 open sites but some are nicely shaded and so many different loops. There is a small section with hookups but we dry camped and had a very nice site. Three comfort stations were in close walking to our site. Great for riding bikes, three main beach areas and hiking areas. They have a concession, dump station, salt water swimming and fishing. Fireplaces not provided but you can bring your own. CT has been increasing their prices every year and for an out of stater $33 for dry camping is expensive and $3 of it was for a reservation fee even if you didn't make a reservation. We camped at Hammonasset Beach State Park in a Motorhome.
