Very nice quiet park. Small in size but very well maintained. Hosts and staff are friendly and informative. Newer, clean shower building with playground centrally located. Not all sites are level or large enough for big rigs but we were lucky and was able to get around the campground in a 40' motorhome. Two sites with small rustic shelters for tent camping were nice. A lot to do at both the park and local area. Shopping and towns nearby. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

We paid the senior rate for our mid-week stay just before Memorial Day. It was very quiet and we had empty sites on both sides of us for our 3 day stay. Electric was very good, water pressure a bit low so we just used our pump. We had a lot of rain while we were there, so we did not sit outside or do any hiking. OTA TV was poor, at night we picked up ION and another PBS type station. Verizon cell and broadband both very good. Overall a nice quiet CG. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Cady's Roadhouse is on US-44 a couple of miles over the border in RI. Wednesday they have 35 cent wings that are very good. Sunday afternoons they have an open jam session which usually have very good musicians who play.

This is a lovely, small COE park located in the woods with water and electric hook ups (there is a dump station). The roads are gravel and the sites are some sort of dirt/sand. There is a steepish hill to climb to get up to the camping loop and no one seemed to have trouble. Sites and roads are big enough for big rigs. Our assigned site was immaculate having been raked (and it was a large site) and the fire pit was clean. We are traveling with a motorcycle tent trailer so clean bathrooms are important to us and these were great. The toilet stalls are some of the roomiest I have seen and even though there is just one shower each for men and women, it was spacious with plenty of room for clothing and toiletries. Interaction with the staff was pleasant. Verizon cell and hot spot worked well. Just a couple of minor negatives. The trash dumpster is all the way outside the swing arm gate exiting the campground and they do not sell any ice. Not sure why more people do not utilize this campground because it is wonderful. We would return if ever in the area again. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Tent Trailer.

We most enjoy going to COA sites and this one did not disappoint. Each site was equipped with water and electric and a picnic table. The setting for each was so peaceful. we had our 20 foot travel trailer and loved just sitting in our comfy chairs and enjoying watching the leaves sway in the trees, the birds come and go and just the forest setting. There are two hosts on site and they take turns working five days on and five days off. They were both pleasant and helpful when assistance was needed. There is a dump site on the way out.

There is a boat launch site and the water looks so welcoming but apparently the water is hazardous to swim in so swimming is not allowed. Though we did not play, many people were availing themselves of the disc golf. The playground is conveniently located as is fire wood for purchase at the host location. There are many hiking trails and the ones along the water are easy to traverse. A most welcoming campground. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a convenience store a couple of miles away for the basic needs as there is not store on site. We went into Putnam for grocery shopping, a delightful waterside farmer's market (trail also along the river) and then to a delicious BBQ restaurant for lunch. (Black Dog). BBQ was delicious and they also have a wide selection of beers.

The only reason we didn't rate this 10/10 is because there are no sewer hookups at the sites and the dump station was awkward. The sites were well spaced, shaded and level. The hiking trails were short, but nice. Bathrooms were very clean. We didn't use the showers, but they looked clean. There is only one shower for each gender though. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

This campground is definitely in the middle of nowhere. It is quiet and peaceful. Our site was fairly level (the front had to be lowered a long ways). The utilities worked well. We were able to get satellite but just barely. No sewer, but dump station. Probably the biggest complaint was something that can't be helped, but it was all the sap dripping from the pine trees. We had it everywhere and our dog had it all over her and when she'd lay in the leaves they stuck to her. I'm assuming it is just at certain times of the year, but that was a real nuisance. There are several trails to walk around the park. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a Core of Engineers park. Definitely peaceful in a woody, isolated location with plenty of room between sites. The hosts were great. Water and electric (no sewer but there is a dump station.) Your satellite dish will not work here and there are only 1-2 tv channels available. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

This has become our favorite getaway in CT. Super large sites with lots of wooded space between your neighbors, something you just don’t see in CT to often. Campground is heavily wooded and slightly hilly. Our hookups were in good working order. Friendly and helpful camp Hosts. The lake which is an easy walk from the campground is perfect for fishing or kayaking. Miles of scenic hiking trails that are easy on the feet. Our Verizon cell phone worked well. Dump station was in good working order. This is a quiet campground that caters to campers that are looking to enjoy nature and as always found everyone very respectful. Would certainly return again or recommend this place to anyone. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Quiet campground, large wooded campsites with water and 50/30 amp electric. Accommodates 40' Class A motorhomes at RV sites. Tent sites are large also, but no hookups. Hosts very informative about area, and clean the restrooms frequently, no less than once per day...they were always spotless, and newly remodeled, very nice! Note that the entry gate is locked at 10 PM so if you arrive later you have to park outside the CG and walk in, a bit of a disadvantage, however you can leave any time. The gate reopens at 9 AM. Wish they would add a keypad system for registered campers to allow 24 hr access. Dump station is different than any other I've seen, with a sideways entry, and no threads to contain dumped "matter", so some leakage occurs, which can easily be rinsed down, but it would be better I think to have a vertical dump and no leakage at all. We will definitely return. Would rate it a 10 if they had sewer at sites. This is a wonderful peaceful campground with beautiful surroundings. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

This is the only COE campground in southern New England located on a 200 acre lake (no swimming). You can bring your boat here. There are 11 sites with water and electric and 11 sites without. Three lean-to sites. Host families do a great job and since the campground is small all in a loop it is a great place to camp. Sites are shaded by trees, they sell firewood here, and there is a nice clean restroom with showers and laundry. Basketball courts and horseshoes near the entrance. A walk or drive down to the lake and there is an 18 hole disc golf course there no charge. Hiking trails from the campground lead around the lake and to the lake where one might find a sitting area for rest and enjoyment. The two host families did a great job checking us in and giving material and ideas for traveling around the area. One person always watches the gate and only lets those staying there drive around the loop. Visitor parking is outside the gate. The gate closes around 9 and does not open until 9 the next morning but you can park in the visitor parking and walk in - not a long walk. We have never camped here before but we will be back. The RV next to ours the couple was from the Midwest and they said it was their favorite campground of their trip - quiet, private, shaded etc. Using the Golden Age pass with electricity it cost $16. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Our second stay at this nice quiet park. We were in early with the volunteers who clean the campground before the official opening. There have been some improvements since our last stay. The only real downfall here are the bath house which could use an upgrade. But being full time we use our own. TV via batwing is fair, Verizon cell and broadband very good. We camped at West Thompson Lake COE in a Motorhome.

We again enjoyed our stay here at the campground. Our site was large, level with plenty of extra space. No problems with our hookups. Our Verizon signal worked well. Lots of wooded space between sites which gave us privacy. Very quiet at night. The lake at the campground offers kayaking, fishing, and hiking trails that connect to the campground; just a great place to enjoy nature at it’s best. One of our favorite campgrounds in CT. The site we were assigned (site 4) was spacious and level. We got a downpour in the early evening and the site drained completely. No standing water in the morning. Restroom and shower was adequate. Never did try TV, internet or phone, so I don't know if any are available. Would stay here again and recommend it to anyone that likes wooded areas. Nice small park with friendly staff.
