This campground is terrible, very poorly maintained. From the entrance road which needed serious upgrading to the bathhouse, everything was in serious need of attention. The bathhouse was poorly maintained, three toilet stalls in Womens side, only one in working condition. It was dirty the entire time. The grounds were not well kept and the staff were not pleasant. We were actually repulsed by this campground and would suggest it be avoided at all costs! - eastman
Jun 2011 - $45.00
This place was poorly maintained. The restrooms are filthy. The roads are full of large potholes. There are a lot of trees overhanging the road. Very dusty as some of the perm. campers "keep the road hot" constantly driving to the trash can etc. It is very overpriced for the money. Take my advice and keep going! - crackers

Southwick Acres is related to Sodom Mountain CG. SA is more geared toward seasonal campers with the number of what looked like rental sites being a small minority. There are a handfull of tent sites and 5 cabins available. The small single bathhouse also denoted the number of seasonal sites since seasonals have sewer. SA welcomes kids but they are not what I would call "kid friendly" as they don't have any activites planned, rather they allow cmapers to go to Sodom Mtn and participate in their activities. The camp store was also essentially non-existant. Had we only planned a camping weekend and not had our days filled with trips to nearby 6 Flags, it would have not been one of our better Memorial Day weekend experiences. All in all, it was an ok campground with friendly staff, hence the mediocre rating. - Nik

Terrible experience. They put us in the grass at the back of the campground with old abandoned trailers. Booked a pull thru 6 months prior. No sewer hookup. Road back to area was rugged with big potholes. Overall worst campground we have ever been in. - redhead3416
Aug 2017 - $45.00
The campground was packed. Our site was sufficient. Flat and pea gravel. The bathrooms were very clean. We had grey water only. Dump station was fine in the end. We had 25+ channels over air. No CTV. Verizon was ok, 2 bars. The roads are a little bumpy in the park. Worked for us 2 adults 2 kiddos 9,11! - stanner17
Jun 2017 - $54.00
Older park, mostly dirt roads with pot holes. Sites are fairly level, grass with picnic table and fire ring. A lot of seasonal campers. Poor cell service (Sprint) and only about 5 tv channels. Utilities okay 30 amp, good water pressure and sewer. Grass long in fenced dog park. - philandterri35

The campground was clean. It had ponds to walk around and cabins to rent. The pool was closed but they had a game room, laundry room and other kid play areas. We had lots of shade. We have a 32' travel trailer and our site was not easy to back into or level. - Jeri Gluck
May 2017 - $48.00
Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. Campground was packed yet it didn't feel crowded or noisy. Lots of trees. People were friendly. A good sized campground that's pretty far off the highway but worth the ride. Lots of nice cabins too. Be aware there is a big hill, 9% grade to climb to get there but after that it's fine. - Patnal
Aug 2016 - $50.00
Since there were more negatives than than positives, we will NOT be returning. The bathrooms were supposed to be cleaned from 10:00am-10:45am daily, but I went just after 10:00am one day and every toilet needed to be flushed and the trash was spilling onto the floor. The campsite we were on was not level and despite the levelers and stabilizing jacks, the camper was so off that we had to slam the door to get it to close. One of the bedroom doors was very difficult to close as well, and the other wouldn't stay open, due to the uneven terrain. The roads were also VERY hilly on the route to the campground. Most employees were quite nice, however one staff member (who I believe is a manager) was arrogant most of the time I had any interaction with him, even antagonistic at times. Another also had an attitude with me, using an inappropriate tone of voice. The laser tag and mini golf on site is nice, but it isn't open all the time. We did enjoy the laser tag though, as well as the activities related to the theme for the weekend. They have adult swim time from 1:00pm-2:00pm and 5:00pm-6:00pm, which are peak times for kids, so it was inconvenient, since this is a family campground. Adult swim should be from 10:00am-11:00am or 12:00pm-1:00pm and from 7:00pm-8:00pm or on Thursdays and Sundays when the pool is open until 10:00pm, adult swim should be from 9:00pm-10:00pm. - Kirsten T

Most of the spaces are filled by year round campers, most not well kept. Many residents are dumping their gray water on there site, where no sewer is available. Roads approaching and within the park were terrible. Though friendly, the young lady at the counter obviously did not have experience. WIFI is only at the office, and it did not work while we were there. CATV was good. - R V Camper
Nov 2014 - $59.00
Awesome place to camp. Very friendly family orientated atmosphere. My kids look forward to this trip every year. You can't ask for better! If you have kids you won't see them from sun up to sun down due to the amount of activities. Pet friendly, Clean restrooms and friendly staff!! - Gina Falt
Jul 2014 - $58.00
First thing to remember is the name of the park is "campsites" not "RV resort" Which makes it a mixed bag. Staff was friendly, and responsive to emails. Good cable TV connection which was important as trees on edge of field were too high for Dish Network. Have 39' fifth wheel, put us on end lot pull-through which normally would be a good thing... except here the lot was so narrow our front door was only 6 feet from road. Roads were not made for big rigs, e.g., tight turns with tree overhangs. If you have smaller camper, or pop up and don't need Wi-Fi [at your site] or sewer probably be OK. FYI, a killer mountain climb if you try to get there from US 44 BEFORE Winsted. Instead follow US 44 through town to CT 8 then right on CT 20 and finally right to Reballard Rd which becomes Old North. You and your truck will be much happier. - Tom & Marilyn

Very nice campground. Bathroom and showers were very very clean. Small campground with a lot of hiking near by. Sites were just big enough for tent or small camper, picnic table, and car. Ranger on first shift has been known to go through campers trash. Disturbing I know but ignore him, dispose of your own trash, and have fun. - stemer2003

This is a mostly seasonal park with many old run-down units. The access roads within the park are in awful shape with potholes and overhanging branches. They need to do better with making people pick up after their dogs. Many remains lying about. You must travel through several residential neighborhoods before reaching park. The literature says it is big rig friendly, but we do not agree. We will not stay here again. - birdlady4810
Oct 2005 - $27.00
This campground has definitely changed for the better since the last review that was left in 2003. My husband and I (and our cats) really enjoyed this campground and we highly recommend it. We've been to many campgrounds and this is one of our favorites. It is in a very nice neighborhood in Tolland, CT. We ended up staying for much longer than we had originally planned. When you first pull into the campground the sites are out of view. Beyond the office you will drive down a lovely pine tree-lined road beside a small lake- beautiful setting. One of the owners was frequently, deligently attending to the upkeep of this lake (which allows swimming). There is a great selection of wooded or open sites. For the children there is ball field, playground, rec hall (with video games, pool tables and more) and the lake. They also have propane available and a small general store. Furthermore, the restrooms and grounds were always clean. We saw a maintenance man at the restrooms everyday as well as someone attending to the grounds. The staff and owners were so friendly. They truly went above and beyond- great people. Definitely give this one a try! - bandh

Big rig friendly, large gravel sites, easy access in and out. We are two old people looking for safe places to overnight. This park was quiet and safe. Perfect stop for us. No sewer but it did have a convenient dump station. - Lama79
Jul 2017 - $60.00
This is a tricky review for me to write. Did we enjoy our stay? Yes, for the most part. Would we stay again? No. Here are the pros and cons of our visit. PROS: Easy entrance and friendly staff, we received our requested site, all pull through RV sites, level sites, clean bathrooms/showers, beautiful store/office, shuttle service to the amusement park, discounted tickets to Lake Compounce, convenient to grocery store and interstate CONS: Hot, dry sites with no shade (newly planted trees not large enough yet), W/E only-no sewer, limited amenities (they need a pool), not much to do at campground for older kids and adults, not enough space between sites, garbage truck coming through at 7 am, constant 24/hr droning of power plant and horrible sporadic odors from same. This park has a ton of potential and I don't think they're done with it yet. The cabins and teepees seem very popular and looked great. The tenting area is a bit tight but was well maintained. A staff member did tell us that there are rumors of a pool for next year. However, not sure what, if anything, they can do about a 650-ton a day solid waste incinerator for a neighbor. And frankly, that is a deal breaker for us. The constant sound and frequent odor were simply intolerable for us. We can't go back because of that. Too bad. - BDD
May 2017 - $54.00
This campground is part of a large amusement park in Bristol. It is fairly new and caters to families visiting the park. All sites are pull thru with water and electric only and are very long, level, and spacious. Everything worked well and the sky is open for dish. The proximity to the park makes it a bit pricey, but we enjoyed our stay. Very quiet at night. - ronboett

Jun 2015 - $14.00
This is definitely forest camping on Otis Reservoir, which is a scenic lake peninsula. No hookups and there are only about 25 sites out of 93 for trailers and RVs. Our site was down a long rocky driveway slanted to the lake with a picnic table and fire pit overlooking the lake. We could have put a kayak in from our site. Many campers put their boats in at the boat landing and tie it up on the shore near their campsites. It was beautiful. There are many tent and pop up camper sites right on the water. The campground has a nice beach and offers boating, fishing, hiking and swimming. Comfort stations are clean with showers. There is a dump station near the office. This is not just off the highway, it is a long ride in off of route 8 in western MA and I would not want to drive it at night. Our site had four campsites around it but with all the trees and shrubs we could see only the top of one tent in the distance. It is a peaceful place to camp but I would not take an RV over 28 ft camping here. We would camp here again. - gsnakehill
Jul 2010 - $14.00
All the sites seemed to have a lot of privacy with lots of trees and greenery. The lake is beautiful with a nice swim area. Very peaceful, quiet at night, and overall attractive and well kept. Ranger programs for kids and adults are available. Pleasant staff. We will be back. - poodlecamper
Aug 2009 - $12.00
This is a very nice campground that's on the Otis Reservoir. The beach area is average size for a Massachusetts State Park. There are lifeguards on duty most of the time. The campsites are large but some are on hills which make it a tent only site. There is a boat ramp for the general public for use of their watercraft. The weekend we went there the ramp was closed early Saturday afternoon because the parking lot was full. There are also A.T.V. and dirt bike trails in the woods. If you have a powered watercraft or a four wheeler this is a great place to camp. We were able to hike, ride bikes, swim and fish all at one park. We would go back again but it's a long drive for a weekend, so we will hold off for now. - B. P. Donelan

Very nice military campground. Quiet area with wide sites and clean showers and clean FHU's. Office staff very helpful with local attractions and base information. Call ahead as they do not take reservations. - boomerlee
Aug 2016 - $20.00
This is a first come first served military campground. It is not a great campground either. Parking pads are concrete but entrance to site is just dirt, rocks and dead grass. Fire ring was overgrown with weeds and full of trash. Picnic table was useable. Bathhouse is strange especially the shower area. There is a big room in both men and women's restrooms. There is only a long bench for all three showers to use and absolutely no privacy before or after stepping into/out of the shower. The room is quite large and it seems that some sort of privacy could be arranged. The water does not taste great but the utilities (no sewer) worked fine. Verizon cell and hot spot worked well. The campground is not easy to find and we got an unfriendly feeling from the gate guard to the campground staff. There are several commercial business near the campground that were busy through most of the night. This is not up to the usual standards of most military campgrounds. We would not stay here again. - roadking
May 2016 - $20.00
This park has some real potential. We stopped here for two nights on our way to New Hampshire, so the location was ideal for our route. When you arrive, you will enter the main gate, go through the traffic circle, pass the the gas station where you will turn left. This road will lead right to the campground. To echo what others have said, the camp is treated without a lot of care. We arrived on a Saturday after the office closed and chose a spot. We had to inspect three different sites since the first two were 50 amp service only and we are 30 amp. Sites are back in with water and electric only. We chose site 11 which gave us good TV antenna coverage as well as Verizon wifi. The pad was concrete and level with plenty of room for our 35 ft fifth wheel and truck. The big negative was the trash in the fire pit that seemed to have been there for some time. This could be a really nice campground, it just needs the attention. If passing through we would definitely stay again. - pfogleboch

Staff was very friendly. There are some beautiful shaded sites; we were in the field, and sun was directly on us in the afternoon and that was a little uncomfortable. We did have 30 amp service, so could use the AC. I'd ask for shade next time, but we didn't give much notice before reserving. Restrooms and showers were very nice & clean. They had everything we needed. We had a great camping experience there. They have boat rentals, a nice lake which is across the road from the camp store. - SharonW.
