They have just upgraded the sites to full hook ups which is a great addition. Sites which are paved could be longer, but hear they might extend them farther with gravel, which would be a plus. Site aprons could be made wider as you will have to back across the grass which is new and with rain, might sink some.

Overall things are better but some small changes will help a lot. Not many camping spots in the northern part of Delaware and a short drive from 896 will makes this a great overnight stop for some snowbirds. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We were lucky we couldn't get a site at another campground. We really enjoyed this park. It's easy in, easy out. Convenient, good utilities. The sites are all nice, with shade. We would definitely stay here again. I believe all the sites are pull thrus. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

The campground is now all full hookups. It appears that they just paved over the existing gravel sites and upgraded the utilities and bath house. Our site was about 2" out of level side to side and the tongue jack was almost fully extended even with 6" of blocks under it. Our site, #24, was one of the longer ones. With the rear tires all the way to the back of the pad, there was just enough room for our 30' trailer and long bed crew cab. They did away with the Senior discount for non-residents so our cost is considerably higher than in the past. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

No doubt about it, the state has spent a bundle upgrading this park. There are a variety of site lengths. Something for everyone provided people use sites appropriate for their size. Levels looked generally pretty good with only minor side to side differences. Some sites do have a front to back slope enough to be challenging to longer vehicles. We arrived on a Thursday, no reservations, but the camp host on duty went way beyond duty & gave us a site of a 'no show.' The 'no show' never showed up. Never called to cancel either. Oh well. Our gain.

The point lost was for the cost. Understanding that upgrading the CG cost a bundle to do & was well done, the price is a little on the high side. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here for two weeks while visiting relatives in the area. The sites are paved and spacious. The interior road is also paved. We have a 40' fifth wheel; the site was long enough for our rig, but not our truck. We parked it parallel to the front of our rig. We stayed in site 8. The state has just finished putting in sewer hook-ups at all sites. Big-rig friendly. The park does not offer wi-fi at this time. We have AT&T, our cell service (and hot spot) was excellent. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park was recently updated from mostly tent camping to now mostly RV sites. It needs some time for the grass to fill in, the RV pads could be longer, there isn't room to park a car off the road without being on the grass or mud at most sites. No playground, and the pond does not allow swimming. We will be staying there often (it is near our grandchildren) and we are looking forward to seeing it improve. Please note: the dump station is BACK IN. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

First, lets discuss the positive aspects of Lums Pond.

* Camp Hosts are wonderful.
* Plenty of room between sites, especially if you back up to the center grass common area. We were in site 30.
* Nice, new fire pits with built in movable cooking grates.
* Roads are freshly paved.
* New bathrooms were still under construction, but the old bathrooms were clean.
* New picnic table that are 8 feet long.

Now the negatives:
* $35 for a State Park mid-week. No wonder only 1/4 of the park was filled. We fulltime and stayed here to be close to family. For the price, there are NO amenities other that basic water/electric/sewer.
* It is an 8 foot wide concrete pad with the posts right next to the pad so it can severely limit slide access for your rig. We jacked up our rig with our air bags so we could pull out our front left slide. Just poorly constructed. I understand they want to protect their new electrical boxes, but just not well thought out.
* Excluding Camp Hosts, the other park employees were not knowledgeable about the sites available/accessibility. We stayed one extra night and the boy booked me in a site I would not fit in. Thankfully, spoke with the Camp Host the next morning and she got it all straightened out.
* No place to park your car in your site. "Overflow" parking is available near the front gate which is great... if your site is near the front of the park.
* MUD! Everywhere if it rains! They seeded, but they did not put any straw down so when it rains it turns into a mud pit. Straw would protect the new grass as well as prevent the sites from turning into muddy puddles. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

We have stopped here a number of times. Big CG. Many sites ore not well defined but little matter as there is so much room. Given that parking areas are not defined levels can be hit or miss. Biggest point loss is for price. $35 for dry camping is very steep. Not surprised that we have seldom seen Lums Pond very full. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Good place for a quick stopover because most sites do not have any services. The campground has easy access to the highway. Almost all sites are backin but we did see several motorhomes that pulled into sites along the road. We selected a site with electric. Sites are very large and in good shape and many have plenty of shade. The restrooms could use some maintenance. Over the air TV was very good, about 20 channels. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice state park. It is off the highway so there is no traffic noise and there are lots of trees. The entry was a little hard to find - it is on the South side of the park. We were there mid-week so the park was practically empty. Sites are spacious and shaded. There are not many options for RV parks in DE, but we thought this was a good "find". We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large sites. Quiet. Safe. Good location. Good roads. Site #22 was not very level. None of the electrical sites looked very level. To get level my front wheels of the motorhome were off the ground.

The dump station is easy to get to but it is a mess. It needs gravel to fill the mud puddle that surrounds it. Water faucets throughout the park are easy to access. The bathhouse was in fairly good shape but needed a good cleaning and paint. The campground is a good place if you plan to visit Newark, Wilmington and Elkton. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

This was our first stay at a Delaware State Park and we were disappointed. Our campsite was a mess with a lot of trash left on it. The bathrooms were dirty when we arrived and were not cleaned the two nights that we were there. The dump station still needs work. We called the campground office while leaving and reported the situation. They said that was not acceptable and would see if they could get the problems corrected. If cleaned up properly the CG would be a great place to stay. We would probably give it another try if we are ever back in the area. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A great park, except for the helicopters. One real problem is the dump station. Needs gravel to clean up the mess. Asked when this was going to be fixed, no one had a clue, We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

Lovely medium sized state park with 72 sites, including 2 yurts and 4 horse camp sites. Five sites have electricity, with the remainder being primitive (no electric, water, sewer) and mostly open, though there are trees throughout the campground. Within the park is the largest freshwater pond in Delaware (boat rentals available), and several hiking and biking trails. (See the Nov 3, 2009 review by daisyferret1) for an in depth description of the park. Generator hours: 7am-10pm. Recycling is available. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a quiet spot on a pond, lots of tent site but only a few camper sites with electricity. Water is a available from various locations. Had this been an evening with a clear sky this would have been a beautiful place to stargaze. No one was at the registration cabin, nor we're either of the 2 campground hosts to help us register so we just did self-registering. There are hiking trails, one around the pond (which is a 3-4 hr. hike). Bathrooms were clean and there were showers. It was more expensive for what was offered unless you wanted less to begin with. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.
