The entrance booth was unmanned for the season so self registration is required if you don't have reservations online. Self registration must be cash only, no checks or credit cards. Some sites are unlevel front to back making leveling the trailer difficult. The sites are large and well spaced out. Some sites have the sewer connection near the road so a long hose may be required. Many trails for hiking and biking. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Been 14 years since we have last been here and much has changed as the last time we were here there were just a few electric only sites and now most sites appear to have full hookups. Our hookups were in good working order and our site was level. Our back in site was about 55' long and noticed most sites were similar in size. Getting in with the larger Rv's could be a problem. Geography at the campground was lightly wooded and mostly level. Camp roads and sites are paved. Plenty of trails to walk or bike. Good signal on our Verizon cell. Bathrooms/showers were clean & updated. We would return if back in the area. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Don't use the address for this park campground that's on their website - it's for the administrative offices. When I called to get information about the park, I was told to use this address for my GPS: 3355 Red Lion Road, Bear, DE. However, this wasn't exactly right either, but it got me close (across the street and down the road a bit). These are nice, large, level sites. Very nice campground. Some sites are shaded. When I was there, there were two campground hosts. I arrived late, almost dark, so I picked up an envelope at the front, picked a site, and brought the envelope back to the entrance, with money in the envelope, and put it into the slot. Neither the envelope nor the website, though, told me what the fee was. I asked the campground host, and he was nice about me bothering him after dark. He said the full-service rate right now is $36 ($32 plus a $4 registration fee), and that it was posted on the board at the entrance. It was; I had just missed it when I drove through. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

This should be the standard for all state parks. Paved roads and sites, full hookups, miles of hiking trails, fishing, off leash dog area, non motorized boat rentals, etc. Our site was perfectly level and very spacious (it appears most sites are very spacious). We were only able to stay 3 nights here but would have stayed longer if our plans allowed. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The park was redone a couple of years ago. All asphalt streets and sites with full hookups on all sites. The sewer hookup is more towards the front of the site which may require extensive sewer hose. Plentiful space between sites. We were able to get satellite tv although the site was pleasantly treed. The aprons of the sites could be wider or have additional stone as it tends to be a spot for water accumulation. The camp hosts were extremely helpful and nice and worked with us to find the best site for our big rig after rain accumulation was at our front door at our first site. Car just fit in front of rig in the site. No WiFi but cell service is fine. We were pleasantly surprised how nice and big rig friendly (45') this state park is. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

Sites still need improvement but still a nice place to stay, Great camp hosts but grounds were very wet this time when we stayed and some areas get very muddy due to poor site design for backing in. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I wish all state parks were like this. Wide paved roads and asphault pads, spacious & level sites, very clean, lots to do, very quiet. It can be muddy after a heavy rain. No satellite, but 50 OTA channels. Good AT&T and Verizon signals. Nice bathrooms. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

All road and pads are paved and in good condition. Utilities all worked and the water is very good tasting. They have add a new bath house since we were last here and all facilities are family style - very nice. More parks should go to this style. They were clean and large plenty of room for the family. Check-in was simple with pre-registration the car pass was attached to our reserved site post. Park has trails with some having fine stone to walk or bike on. They sell ice cream and firewood at the office. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed 4 nights while our house was packed up to move. Large sites, with plenty of room in between them. All asphalt pads, although not all level. all manageable with minimal blocks. Full hookups but no WiFi or cable. Our site was shaded and unable to find a location where our satellite would acquire. Minimal camp store, but that's expected for a state park. Three Camp hosts, and all nice. Very clean. New bathhouse and clean, but we didn't use it. All sites 40' long, but just enough to park in front for one vehicle. plenty of space in the overflow field. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Motorhome.

Wonderful campgound in Lums Pond State Park. Sites are very spacious, level macadam and shaded. There is a very small camp store and there are two camp hosts on-site who are very helpful. There are no other amenities within the campground but the state park has many amenities that are available to campers. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a wonderful campground that is clean and well maintained. The roads are easy to travel and the sites were very spacious - enough that you cannot see into your neighbors camper. The amenities in the state park include fishing and boating (rentals available) on Lums Pond (a lake really), hiking (two trails 6.9 and 9.4 miles), zip line course, Frisbee golf, picnic tables and pavilions as well as grills.

State park with FHU. Very large loop that sites are spaced out around plus some other smaller areas. The large loop is all grass so it is quite attractive. Sites are pretty large but nothing between sites for added privacy. There are a lot of mature trees so it is a mixture of sunny/shady spots. Interior roads are paved as are the pads. Site is wide enough to park on the side. All utilities were good. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

As I've read in other reviews, we will rate and review places based upon what they are (this one being a state park) and what they typically offer. We went here on a one night stopover on our way to Virginia Beach. This is a pretty, clean park, fairly easy to access. Sites are generally level and have electric and water hookup. Not too difficult to back in. It's on a pond that you can fish in with lots of turtles. Sites are large enough and not too packed in. The place is treed, and it looks like most if not all sites offer shade. You definitely see your neighbors, but we didn't feel we were on top of them. We did not use bathrooms, so we don't know their quality. There is a very good restaurant nearby called Grain -- definitely recommend. We were in a 26' trailer. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 2 nights and happened to have beautiful weather that weekend. Our site backed up to the pond (which seemed more like a lake) and we had lots of space! It was a beautiful and relaxing place to spend a weekend after a few busy days touring DC. We launched our kayak near the fishing dock behind our site and the water was calm and pleasant for kayaking. Verizon and AT&T worked well, and it was nice that the sites have full hookups and 50 amp. The only drawback was the rule that you have to park your truck completely on the pavement on your site and it cannot be on the dirt. That was very difficult to accomplish since we have a 40 ft. 5th wheel and large dually truck, but somehow my husband was able to make it work. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Most of the spots are around a large open field with very few trees. There are a couple of sites that have a view of the lake. All sites appear to be paved with Full Hookups. My site was close to being level, only about 1" off side to side. My site did not have a good area for the picnic table close to the fire ring. Some one had moved it to the off door side, but I never like to eat right next to my sewer connection. Most other sites looked like they had better room for their table. My wife and I stayed two night at Lums Pond State park for the first time. First thing you notice is the sites are very wide, you are not on top of your neighbor. Hook ups were right there. We stayed in site 16 very open. Some trees, more along the pond ( lake ). Very nice hiking or bike trails. Great place just to chill. You can buy fire wood there & ice from the site host, not sure they have much more this time of year. We camped at Lums Pond State Park in a Travel Trailer.
