Very nice area, friendly people. Secluded area in the Forrest. Includes springs to swim and very tropical setting. Very relaxing vacation. A little drive off the beaten path but worth it ! Plenty of trees between sites, washrooms and sites could use a little more attention. Can get quite smokey from all the campfires. Primitive camping, no electricity. All in all, would camp short term again. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Upon arrival without reservations, we were informed that there were plenty of sites and could go look at them with host in golf cart, however, no host in golf cart could be found. So, went on our own to the longer described sites and found many that would accommodate our big rig before registering. There are no hookups but all sites have narrow paved parking area, fire pit, lamp post, table and grill in a spacious, trimmed trees for rvs, sandy, heavily vegetated somewhat private site. Roads are narrow but manageable. Generators permitted between 7am and 10pm. Staff are available but not overly friendly or knowledgeable! Overall positive experience with the only negatives being the dead limbs/twigs that could easily be cut back at dump station area to eliminate RV scratches and gate security hours never being adhered to. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Beautiful river for canoeing with lots of wildlife, also a short boardwalk trail. They have rentals as well as carts to help wheel your canoe to the boat ramp. The spring is the local swimming hole - very busy and crowded on weekends. They do check coolers for disposable containers and alcohol. The campground has mostly large shaded sites. Most have vegetation between sites. Most have nice tent pads, picnic tables, and paved area to park. The campground road is narrow and has a lot of potholes. The bathrooms are adequate but kept clean even on the busy weekend. The showers are controlled by a push button the turns off after a few minutes which is annoying. Note: check the site map as not every loop has a shower house. It would be nice if they had electric hook ups as it gets hot at night in the warmer months. I gave it a 5 due to lack of hookups, and need for road maintenance. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Rate is Senior rate with Golden Age pass. Also, this review is based on having RV. If for tenting, I would give a higher score. Problem is many sites (where you put RV) are narrow, not level, or difficult to access. We were given the option to look first and did not, so took site close to path to springs. We fit (at 26') but if you had slides, they would not work. So check first. Bathrooms and showers were clean BUT needed maintenance; doors did not have locks, shower curtains hanging askew, towel holders broken off, no place to put shampoo or soap in showers. At the dump station there was standing water in the dump site; someone should be checking, cleaning, maintaining. Roads in the park are asphalt but starting to show wear; pot holes and crumbling on the road and at the site. HOWEVER, if tenting here or in small B class, this is super spot. Many sandy tent platforms raised up, firepits and grills, pole for lantern, etc. All of this is short walk to the springs which are awesome. Great swimming at constant 72 degrees and shallow (for kids) for much of area. Don't let the algae bother you, it's mostly near the boil. We walked the nature trail and it was old Florida, with great interpretative signs. They needed better maps with directions on board walk, but good experience. So because of maintenance needs and tough access, I give it a 7 for RVs, but would give a 9 for tenters. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Senior rate shown. We were in site 5 just across from restrooms with no showers. The nearest shower were in Loops B or C. There are no really bad sites, however, in some cases the fire ring is as much as 50' or so away from the RV-If tent camping, there was plenty of room to get nearer the fire rings. The spring and the hiking trails were great although there was a tree over the boardwalk we could not get past with a wheelchair. We did get by by getting off the walk. There is a limited convenience store at the spring and a regular store about 5 minutes east of the park. Cell phone would only work at the ranger station at the entrance. We did not try TV. A nice place to visit-ENJOY. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Good bathroom facilities. The springs are beautiful. The tent sites were medium sized but we had plenty of room. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Tent.

This park was a great relaxed time, and it is in the middle of the Ocala National Forest. The springs were beautiful and well maintained, with lifeguards on duty. There is canoe rentals available, as well as a snack and gift shop on site. Coolers are allowed in the springs area, but not alcoholic beverages. The campground has 4 loops, and has a dump station for RV's. There is shared water faucets through the campground, but you can't hook up to them. The sight we were on was huge, but it faced the wrong way for our camper! There was other sites the same way, but not all. They would not let me change sites, either. Best to call them, to ask about the site. We camped at Alexander Springs Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
