Spacious sites in a forested remote setting. Bring plenty of bug spray. A few TV stations were our only link to the outside world. We camped at Camel Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Arrived to find they had no record of my reservation and another camper was occupying my site. The host was not professional like other federal parks. She wasn't even wearing shoes. People are clearly living out of this park. Beer cans and trash around.

Lot spacing was very close. Mostly shady dirt sites.

Everything was odd. Seems like a good place to get hyjacked or ambushed. I warned you. We camped at Camel Lake Campground in a Truck Camper.

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

The camp sites are extremely close. The map on Recreation.gov is very misleading, so expect to be about 10ft from the next site over. This wouldn't have been an issue except there were screaming kids at every other site, three of this kids were the camp host's kids, and they were no better with yelling at their own children at 0700 in the morning. This made for a frustrating weekend rather than a relaxing one. You will also be checked on frequently, more than any site we've ever been to.

The camp host also had "friends" stop by around 2200 (10pm). These guys were extremely intoxicated and drove circles around the grounds, yelling, and stopped at our campsite to check our rooftop tent out. It was ridiculous and they should have not been allowed on the grounds, let alone allowed to continue driving.

There is also no alcohol permitted on the grounds, this wasn't on the website, but they aren't going to check your red solo cup or other drinking ware if you decide to have a beer.

There is no swimming in this lake, either, due to alligator infestation.

Hiking trails were nice and quiet, as they were the only escape from the other campers. We camped at Camel Lake Campground in a Tent.

Tips for other Campers:

"No alcohol", pets allowed, fire pit and grill are separate, bathrooms are private, camp hosts are questionable characters.

Overall Rating:

Very private 11 site campground on a small lake in Apalachicola National Forest. It is 2 miles off of Rt 12 on a dirt road. Sites 1,2,3,4 and 11 have electric the rest are primitive. Ringed off swimming area with nice sandy beach. Nice hiking trails and a boat launch just down the road. One room flush toilet bathroom and separate one room shower each for men and women. Great hosts

Be warned. I have camped here before when it was a first come first served no reservation campground. Now you would be wise to go online and make reservations as I got the last site available and it is a long way to another campground. Bring whatever you need is it is remote. We camped at Camel Lake Campground in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

Small, pretty, National Forest campground. The road into the campground is two miles of well maintained dirt road. The campground sits on a pretty lake and the campsites are large, clean, and well cared for. Free firewood was at every site. Lots of shade. The bathrooms were clean and well kept - flush toilets and plenty of hot water. We would stay here again. We camped at Camel Lake Campground in a Truck Camper.
