Check-in was fast and friendly. Sites were tight to turn into with a 36 ft 5er; had to back out of my pull-through site because there were too many vehicles and rigs hanging out of adjacent sites. This is a huge resort with mostly all 6 month stay snowbirds, each has their site loaded to the max with stuff.
Very nice pool, beaches are poor, nice pier for viewing sunsets.
For-pay Internet, we did not sign up for. Had to share my water spigot with the neighbor, very low pressure. Cable TV was free.
Key West was 39 miles south, not much to see nearby attractions. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.

This a great RV park located close to key west. Everyone was very friendly. Spacious dirt, concrete, grass sites with patio. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Grounds are overgrown with weeds. Large stones rather than pebbles are on side roads and some campsites, which make it difficult to walk or ride a bicycle. Beach area and waterfront sites have grass that is overgrown with grass 12" high in some places between sites. Cable goes out constantly, most days in fact. Dog waste is not picked up by some owners nor by the park. One female worker drives a golf cart around with large tweezers and picks up a bottle cap or two. Was at the office when one of the workers requested a list of sites that would be vacated so they could check them and clean them up but the lady at the desk told them she didn't keep track of that. Supposedly there is security as there are cameras around, but didn't see enforcement of rules. Sewers back up on a daily basis and roads flood. Rates were raised for 2016, anywhere from 20% to 50% for annuals. Tried to speak to manager several times but she was always "tied up or in meetings." Seems there is a new manager every year. Docks are dangerous, one collapsed while we were here, air conditioning in clubhouse never works so going to an event is not worth it. On a positive note, the people are very friendly and the ones that work the hardest are the volunteers. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.
Only shopping is K-Mart, Publix, CVS and Walgreens, otherwise have to go to Key West.

This was our third stay at Sunshine Key and you simply can't beat the location; its own island, close to shopping and restaurants, only 5 minutes to Bahia Honda State Park and only 45 minutes to Key West. The staff is generally very nice and professional. The downside is the park itself. It is truly in need of maintenance. The pool is the best part of the resort. The side roads are partially covered with rock, not pebbles so difficult for walking and riding. Some spots have been filled in on sites and roads in an attempt to prevent extreme flooding, but to no avail. The buildings are in need of attention in general and could use updating, paint and basic tlc. The dock also needs repair and the swimming/fishing pier recently rebuilt is not the best carpentry job I've ever seen. The swimming steps have been removed so the entire area has been taken over by fishermen. The north beach is often covered with a very smelly seaweed, so the whole area is unpleasant. They have added security cameras and the place has improved over 5 years ago but still needs work. They offer a fair amount of activities and the sites are sufficient for 40' RVs with slides. We will go back if the prices haven't gone up too much and hope for more improvements. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.
The best restaurant nearby is The Square Grouper just south of Big Pine Key, about 20 minutes from the resort.

We stayed for 5-days in RV. At first we were having trouble getting our RV in to use the sewer, electric etc. (should have had extra hoses, etc.) After we could not get it right to hook up, we called the office and they moved us to another site for the night. After walking the park I found a site that we could set up easier. It seemed to me to be located on the wrong side? Called the office and they said we could have the site. After setting up I could not be more pleased. The staff was wonderful! The site was beautiful ( on the water) and we enjoyed all of our time there. If there is any negative, the only thing was the distance to the laundry room and the showers looked old, so we didn't use them. We had a motorcycle and it was difficult to go to the laundry all the way across the property, but I made it. I would stay there again! We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.
Make sure to take extra sewer hose, water hose. Will have to go underneath unit to hookup. Connections are located at the front of the site and on the right hand side in stead of the left. No matter if you pull forward or back up, you will need extra connections.
Other than that I will stay there again!

We stayed here at the Special Encore RV Show special rate of $349. + elec. for the month of Oct. Sites are 30/50A, P/thru, site was long enough for our 36'MH & car. Site are wide enough so you are not on top of your neighbor. Friendly staff, It is on the Gulf with some nice sunsets to view. There is a pool, workout room, cable, WIFI only in office. it is an ok pk for the $349 we pd for the month, but the park is not worth the $991 they normally charge for the month but then that's the going rate for the Keys. Winter rates are way over $1200. a month & like 85-100 a day. Will not come here again unless its on a special rate. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

We stayed here in October 2015 as an Encore special rate of $399 a month plus electricity. We have come here every other year for 6 years now and see improvement each time. This time, we saw a new pier and new cement work leading to the pier. The Internet is a pay situation but worked fine. Water pressure could be sketchy at times. The power (50) amp was fine we were in space 149, right on the marina. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.
Key West, Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key, local dining deep sea fishing.
This is a good place to visit the keys. Marathon Key has a couple of good restaurants, Sparky's offers 30-cent shrimp and wings during happy hour. There was also a good steakhouse on Hwy 1 on Marathon. On Ramrod Key is 5 brother #2, a really good Cuban market/ diner. Try the Cuban coffee. The area is good for kayaking too.

We spend several months here each winter and Encore has a long way to go fixing up this place before they could call it a resort. Even though FL law prohibits permanent residents there are quite a few people who live there all year round and SUPPOSEDLY home school their ill-mannered children. Although the website indicates there is a limit of 6 people on each site that is not adhered to. I have observed 10-15 people on one site. There are kids in the pool under age with no adult. Although promises made every year, the laundry room is terrible, low water pressure, broken machines with outsiders coming in to tie up the machines. Friends rented one of their trailers for $200+/night. Furniture torn, lumpy beds. Cell phone service is intermittent throughout the park, WiFi is non-existent. Their booking policy changes constantly i.e. someone staying 3 months can pick their site and can bump someone who is staying less time. Isn't true. We had people next to us staying 1 or 2 weeks, sometimes it was empty, yet people were told they couldn't rent the site as it was booked. I had an opportunity to observe the "corporate" and "district" people in the office. I can tell you I was NOT impressed with their lack of professionalism and customer relations. On a positive note, the Activities Director is wonderful. She works hard to provide entertainment and activities that are creative and the people having fun are her top priority. If they would get some serious security and REALLY listen to their customers, they might have a chance. Every year there is a new manager, so I'm sure next year someone new will be there again and without the continuity, nothing ever changes. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

OK place. Had bad 30A socket and breaker. (Used 50A converter) pool is nice. Rec room needs totally redone, bath houses need redone, and dock to Swim beach still not finished. (Not even started last year, framed this year, but not working on it). Some sites would be tight to get into. Ours was OK and big. Bring extra sewer hose for some sites. Layout of hookup are strange for some sites. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.

The sites were spacious considering that you are in the Florida Keys and the permanent residents. The interior roads were a mix of sand and crushed gravel. The office workers were very helpful even advising us of a great place to eat. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.
Great place to eat is Castaways in Marathon Key. A little pricey but worth it.

Without a doubt the noisiest RV park we have ever come across. Car noise, people noise and braking dog noise beginning before dawn. The park golf carts dragged garbage dumpsters through the park every day, and if you've ever heard that sound you know how obnoxious it is. The gravel sites were fairly level but tight. They call the sites pull throughs, but the gravel roads between rows were far too narrow for large rigs and we had to back out to leave. Utilities were strong. Bathrooms and showers were old but kept clean. The park is located only 1.5 miles from the beautiful Bahia Honda State Park, and 35 miles from Key West. The nearest grocery store is 8 miles south. Our rate was based on RPI membership. This park is far too noisy for us and we will not return. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Unfortunately Sunshine Key has gone through a manager every year and the place, owned by Encore, really needs to be cleaned up. We have stayed here the past 4 years and this year it really took a dive. The sites were dirty, needing grass cut, trees trimmed, trash picked up, etc. Sewers backed up several times while we were here. The people in the office are very nice and helpful, but the grounds are a disaster. We picked up at least 150 zip lines and numerous bottle caps on our site, and had to request gravel as the site was muddy. Although they have a new clubhouse, their game room is disgusting. The bathrooms in the game room and off the pool are moldy and cruddy. Several activities, including line dancing, are held in the clubhouse and every time they had to call for someone to come and turn on the air conditioning. The classes are every Tuesday and Thursday, so one would think someone would be assigned the task without asking. They replaced the pool furniture but the heater on the pool doesn't always work and several woman complained. The laundry facility is antiquated and needs replacement. People come from outside the park and use the laundry facilities as there is no other one in the area. Security at the park is non-existent. Saw wind surfers come in several days, park their van in an unoccupied space while everyone else had to pay. There is no night security at all. Last year several people wrote letters to Encore documenting the problems to no avail. Encore is only interested in $$$. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

The only good thing about this campground is the location. Situated on a small key close to Bahia Honda State Park. This park is huge and has a unkept marina with boat launch. There are obviously many permanent residents who have constructed an assortment of structures, tents, with junk and tacky decorations everywhere. Sewer system was having major issues while we were there so it was difficult to spend time outdoors with the stench. RV sites are small sites with gravel, hardly any grass, vegetation around except for the pots purchased by the campers. The club house should be demolished. Bathrooms in the clubhouse by the pool were deplorable. Pool was the highlight of the park. It is pretty big with lots of chairs, tables. Sometimes it was so crowded that you needed to bring your own chairs. There is a cafe on site by the pool that offered very good food. Burgers, etc, and a few nights a week, they had prime rib, ribs, Service in the cafe was very good. Staff extremely friendly in the cafe as well. Would I go back? Probably not. Encore needs to clean this place up!!!!! We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

The best thing about this park is it's location on Ohio Key. Lots of good fishing, kayaking, snorkeling and water fun on the south side of the island. The sewer was being spilled onto the roads while we were there as they were backed up or plugged. This park is like a parking lot, so it doesn't have much of a tropical feel or park like setting. The mail room is open to anyone. There is no security when it comes to parcel or postal deliveries. anyone can help themselves to mail and packages. There seemed to be lots of issues with rules. The park is being allowed to rundown. Docks are sinking and the swimming dock on the channel is falling apart and closed. We have stayed here several times but do not plan to return. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Motorhome.

Interior roads were somewhat tight and could have been a problem for a larger rig. Our site had good satellite access. Wifi was off and on. Overall a pretty good park.Very nice staff. Rate reflects a great RPI rate. Normally @ $75. We camped at Sunshine Key RV Resort & Marina in a Travel Trailer.
